I recently bought some from a health foods store because they were sold out of the coconut oil that I use on my hair at night. It seems to build up quite a bit.

Am I using it wrong? Do you guys think that this is a good product to use?

Thanks!

Have not used coconut oil....but I LOVE me some shea butter. It makes my hair so soft! It is WONDERFUL!

I've both used pure shea butter and coconut oil on my hair and I can tell the difference.
Pure shea butter is way too heavy on my hair, it gives it shine and my hair feels moisturised but it becomes way too heavy to comb (you know that feeling when you have to pull your comb with all your strength)
I used it again two days ago after my shampoo, still not impressed, I don't think I'll be keeping it.

I think shea butter is great however, it's so heavy I don't it when I'm doing a lot of manipulation of my hair but the coconut oil is almost too light when wearing my hair down (about once every two weeks). I might try mixing to two w/a 3:1 ratio of coconut oil to shea butter.

I use both. I like shea butter only if I'm either braiding my hair and use it on the ends (damp) or I am wearing a bun and dampen the hair and use it on the ends. I'd never use shea butter all over. I use coconut oil as a light hair oil right after I've washed my hair, or, I use it as part of a pretreatment. I never use either one more that once per wash/rinse. HTH

I just got some 100% shea butter, and I've found it's true about how thick it is. I find it impossible to pull it out of the jar. What do you ladies do to your Shea butter? And do you add anything to it?

I mix my shea butter with coconut oil, about half and half, I use it to seal in the moisture after I spray my braids. When my hair is out I use it on my ends, mostly. I like that it makes my hair soft, but when I use it on all my hair it feels too greasy. I'm going to try mixing it with emu oil next time and see if that works better.
