From the Nov 2003 Black hairstyles & Trends magazine:

1. Your hair looks better when you do it.
2. Their prices change every week.
3. You've been going to your stylist for more than two years and she still won't offer you any favors, breaks or discounts.
4. They make a mistake and then get an attitude with you.
5. They're abusing your head.
6. They keep you waiting for hours while they eat lunch, run errands, gossip with friends, argue with boyfriends, etc.
7. They ruin your clothes and offer no apologies or price reductions.
8. When they give you a bad haircut or color and make believe that it still looks good.
9. They pull disapperaing acts while in the middle of doing your hair or right before your scheduled appointment.
10. Your hair hasn't grown 1" in five years.

And my own $0.02--
When the stylist's hair looks like hammered sh*t, don't let her within 10 feet of your head!

These are my reasons as to why I stopped going to Black shops and went to Dominican shops..

Once ur beautician gets "chatty" with u..she tends to take over ur hair and does what she wants... I dont play that.. and everytime u sit in the chair the prices are NEVER the same!

Amen to this thread!!! I listed about 10 reasons on another thread too! I'm through with paying my good hard-earned money to someone to jack up my hair! I think they try to keep it just jacked up enough and just barely healthy enough for you to keep coming back! I'm glad that now White companies like TIGI and other salons are getting into Ethnic haircare - maybe this will make "our" salons stand up and take notice! I haven't gone to a Black salon for a trim in years! I go to either SuperCuts or Toni & Guy where this nice Asain guy does it. There, you just say 1/4 inch all around and that's EXACTLY what you get - no more, no less! Very simple and easy, one two three - no discussions about what you need, etc. They are VERY customer focused! Don't get me wrong, I'm all for Black businesses - very much, but I'm sick of Black women being the laughing stock of hurtful hair jokes, and stuff and spending obscene amounts of money on fake hair! I'm also sick of seeing/hearing our men when talking about the attributes of other women, mentioning our hair! Our salons have done nothing but a HUGE disservice to us for years and it's time for a change! Thank God for sites like this that educate us as to the healthiest things to do for our hair! I'd like to see ALL Black women with super long hair and only have it short if THEY want it that way...........not because that's all they can do with it! I'm so sick of the Hair Care Industry I could just throw up! And when you pick up "our" hair magazines they are just filled with weaves!!! Can we have a magazine that features pretty long styles with models who are actually wearing their own hair! Our haircare industry is a sad joke!

They triple and quadruple book for one reason and one reason only - the money! Healthy hair means nothign for most of them. Sure there are some really good ones out there who care, but they are few and far between! No one....NO ONE will EVER love and care for your hair the way you do!! No matter how much money we give them!

Thats why I only go 5 or 6 times a year to get a relaxer and trim. Thats only because my hair got longer and it just became exhausting for me to do. I just don't have the time, patience or money to sit 4 or 5 hours for something that only takes 1 1/2. Come on! A wash, conditon and blow out. You know how they tally up 3,000 hours sleeping, 40,000 working and so on. The black women probably spends just as much time in the hair salon as she does sleeping during the course of their whole life. Not me! 5 or 6 times tops a year. I feel you big time!

Because their range of products are limited and might not necessarily work for your hair. But Oh they will tell you its worked on all their other clients. I mean they dont have the time to shop around for products or visit threads ... well anyway most just order what they are used to.

I suppose they are pushing the latest product for which they will get kickbacks. Maybe Revlon will pay a hair dresser extra money (or give a discount) if he/she pushes Cream of Nature perms

Number 10 was the reason I've been on hiatus from my longtime stylist. My hair was always really healthy with her, but after joining this board I realized that she basically trimmed as much as I grew.

I'd like to add to the list if they rip your hair out with rough combing.
