Random Hair Thoughts/Thinking out loud

When someone asks for curl typing I always answer based off of the curl size and using Andre Walkers typing system.

I’m not going off of what your texture looks like. “Curl Size” That’s it.

That however is just for looks.

I use products geared for looser hair textures. I love oils based products( pomades/castor oil/ butters) only in the winter in NJ for styling and never anything shea butter based or coconut oil

Only two exemptions are Qhemet Biologics and Keracares Curlessence line.

In spring and summer I only use oils in conditioning. Styling is just water based / humectant based products if I’m wearing my hair out.

I said all that to say a lot of folks out here claiming 4c because they brush their hair out all the time or stretch their hair out and have never seen the actual texture.

I’m always amazed at how foreign the basic principle of washing, conditioning and leaving your hair alone is to so many of us. I also never cease to be amazed at people who think that our hair length is solely based on genetics. It’s 2025, so I [naively] expect people to understand length retention vs growth but, alas. People are still confused, getting into arguments online, etc. I truly hope that more people join groups like this, search google, etc. Black women can have long, healthy hair too.

I was in the airport and heard a loud, raucuous phone conversation going on behind me. Please tell me why this young woman walked by with at least $200 worth of braids but didn't have or get some inexpensive earbuds or headphones to ensure her conversation was private.
