I'm on a rollercoster with my hair... I dont know what to do. One minute I feel like I'm making progress and then the next minute It like I'm getting nowhere..

for the past few weeks I've been experiencing a lot of breakage towards the back of my hair... I've been getting protien and moisture to my hair but It just doesnt seem to work.

I had so much breakage yesterday and I think my hair has gotten thinner:sad:
The strands that are breaking off are long.

On top of that My hair is uneven all over. The crown is badly broken off.. I dont know if I should just cut it really short and start fresh or work with what I got and hopefully It will start to improve..

When I first found LHCF i was super excited..now Im just getting discouraged. I didnt know it would be this hard.

Before I never took care of my hair..I treated it like crap. It was very short and damaged. But Now I'm taking much better care of it and Its still short. And not quite healthy..

Please I need some help what exactly should I do..

I have an aphogee 2step protien treatment but I dont know if I should use it or not...

Please please please help me out. I feel horrible. Lately I've even thought about going back to my old glue-ins weaves because my hair has been looking terrible lately and I feel like an ugly duckling:cry:

Don't give up. You're just doing something your hair doesn't like. Sounds like you are having protein issues. What I do when I notice sudden breakage is step up the MOISTURE.

Go to Sallys and get some Megasilk Moisture treatment.
Clarify your hair commpletely and just use the Megasilk. No other protein.

Try UltraBlack Hair Lotion Creme Moisturizer for heavy duty moisture. My hair is super dry and it saves it every time.

I wouldn't use the Aphogee 2 step.
I'd say give it some more time. And make sure you are doing the moisturizing and sealing. I used to skip that, but I feel I've made much more progress since I started doing that. Right now I do it every evening at least!

Don't do a glue in weave. Aren't there other types of weaves that are less damaging?

I totally agree with ladyraider. Keep it simple, slow down, relax. I think sometimes those of us that have had issues with growing our hair in the past start to overdo it once we realize that we can have long hair. Start tracking your progress with photos. Hair naturally sheds and when you are not accustomed to knowing what a healthy amount of shed hair looks like it is easy to misdiagnose what you are observing about your hair. I have a huge ball of shed hair every week and that is healthy. Pictures spread out over ever few months give a much better reflection of what is happening with your hair. As far as trying products, I highly recommend that you try one thing at a time. If you want to try a protein treatment, then start with that and wait the appropriate amount of time. That is not something you want to do every week, more like every 6 weeks. See how your hair works with that. Then try something else, but when you make too many changes all at once you don't know what's helping you or hurting you.

I wish you the best of luck and try not to get discouraged, patience is truly the most important thing that we can give to our hair.

Not any that I can afford...But I'm going to try and stay far away from them. I cant even believe I went that far to think about it..

And thanks for your advice

Whatever you do PLEASE DO NOT get a glue in weave. That would only make things worst.

What types of products do you use and what is your regimen?

Thanks alot I guess I will go to sally and pick up some of that megasilk. I have a giftcard I've been wating to use there.

I hope something works because I wanted to start off right This year.

aw sorry to hear that:sad: i think you should dust your ends and definitely not get a glue in weave which will be more damaging. take a deep breath and don't give up! it will be all worth it in the end:grin:

my mindset on my future length is what helped me make my decision on my hair. it was relaxed bone straight and dyed with store bought dye and unhealthy. all the aphogee treatments and deep conditioning in the world didn't help so i started fresh and cut right down to the new growth after a 5 month transition. ultimately my hair's health became top priority over length and i believe one should have a fresh start if their hair is damaged and they plan to grow it to longer lengths, maybe not a BC like i did but a fresh hair cut to jump start your healthy hair care.

I cant give up!!! I was so confident that my hair would start growing that I let all of my friend know that I was growing my hair...They dont believe it could happen and I dont want to be the one to prove them right...

uggghhhhh!!!:wallbash:

thanks alot. I will consider this.

Thanks for sharing your story. My story is sooooo similar to yours and I ended up cutting off all of my hair with the intent to start all over. I was using proteins, both Megatek and the Aphogee Two Step and I noticed a lot of shedding. I also wore glue in weaves throughout the summer and while there was no immediate damage, my hair stopped looking and feeling the same after a while. I thought I was exempt from glue damage and clearly I wasn't. My hair was relaxed, mind you. I sewed in a weave once or twice and everytime I removed the install I noticed my hair was thinner than usual. In an effort to solve all of these problems, I put braids in my hair. When I took those out my hair was even more thin, uneven, and dry. I stood in the bathroom last night after taking out another weave and I said to myself, "Self, you are doing your hair more harm than good. Its not going to grow healthy or properly under these conditions" and I took a deep breath and got to chopping. Afterwards, I felt brand new. I feel like, now I can begin my healthy, long hair journey. I know what you are going through because I've been there. You have to come up with a plan for your hair, set goals. And treat your hair like a delicate flower. Find a stylist you can trust and that understands your hair concerns. Use protein in moderation. I've realized it's some strong stuff and it can do more harm than good. Make friends with oils and moisturizers. Find a protective style while you grow your hair out so you don't manipulate it as much. I never took hair care seriously until I came across this forum and realized how important it is. I wish you luck and think positive and have patience. I hope that helps :)

Thanks soooooo much.. your story is really helpful

Hey! Please don't give up. Sometimes I have to take a break from all the hair fads. A good idea would be to just braid it up and leave it alone for a couple of months.

I have had so many setbacks since I started my hair journey, but you know what? After all of those setbacks, my hair is still much longer than when I started. Even if you don't reach your goal, your hair will still be healthier and longer than when you started! Best wishes to you!

I think sometimes when people stress their hair and stress about it growing, you end up hindering any progress because your stressing about it.

let it go, wash, deep condition do whatever your ritual is and stop stressing, it will grow and be healthy sometimes it takes time.

Could be something in your reggie is not agreeing with your hair?

(quoting the bolded) I have a neice who had the same issue, she had short, broken, damaged hair. She started taking care of it but the damaged hair still broke off. Eventually with enough tlc it finally turned around. Please don't give up from discouragment.

Maybe go natural. Some ppl's hair just doesn't respond well to relaxing.

I thought about this before..but I dont know. I like adore straight hair..but I guess I can alway straighten it... as much as I really dont want to do it..mainly because I hate strinkage, I might consider it..
But for sure Im staying away from relaxers for a LONG time.

MOISTURE MOISTURE MOISTURE.....AND MORE MOISTURE MOISTURE MOISTURE MOISTURE:badcop:

Your hair is breaking off because of too much protein.

Have you tried stretching your relaxers?:yep::yep::yep:

I stopped relaxing every 4 weeks to now relaxing every 3 months.....my hair thanks me:hug3:

I would stay away from protein for awhile, it's a tricky thing to get the hang of. I don't use protein at all because it always causes breakage and makes my hair extremely fragile.

Are you growing out your hair in your avi? Growing out a very short cut like that will have some awkward stages. I think this is just a awkward phase you're in right now.

Also, it takes a little adjustment period to get used to caring for your hair, get used to the growth rate, and how much you normally shed.

My advice is to stick it out and you'll see progress soon. Take pics with your cell so you can see the progress you're making.

It's very possible to have relaxer and grow your hair out. You've only been doing this since June? Give it some time, it's not going to be overnight that you see length.

Overall, I would say to make sure you wash your hair at least once a week, detangle very carefully and slowly, and wear a scarf when sleeping. Don't worry once you learn your hair it'll be a lot easier.

All the ladies have given great advice I'm putting my hair in a sew in weave
to give it break, after reading the responses I think I'm experiencing protein overload so its more moisture between my trackas and dc and mt every two weeks. I wish you well teysmith!
