I braid my hair in corn rows and either pin them or use ouch less rubber bands.....then put the cap on.....I've been meaning to make a silk cap

I braid my hair into one big braid, put on my wig cap then there ya go
I wish I knew how to cornrow though..

For almost the last year I've been either cornrowing or box braiding (as of the last few months) my hair underneath. It's not quite long enough for a ponytail but I have to figure something out as it's getting a little too thick under there.

I also put on a men's skull cap, you know the black satin ones. They do a great job holding in moisture for my hair.

Hope this helps!

I don't know how to cornrow, so I do two strand flat twists. It works for me and when I'm done with the wig for the week, my hair can be worn for another day or two in a twist out.

braids or cornrows (if someone else does it) and a wig cap. I want to sew some silk into my wig caps, but for now I just spray a little of my moisturizer into the cap b4 I put it on and that helps.

I have a question (I don't know if it's been answered before but I'll ask it anyways xD): are those "stocking" caps good for protecting hair under a wig? Because I've heard complaints by my grandmother and other women that their hair had severe breakage after a while of using them.

i haven't had any issues, i've been wearing wigs for 2.5 yrs and my hair is longer than its ever been at APL and I'm natural. when i get my dustings 2-3 times a yr she barley cuts anything off, no splits.some people say the friction rubs or thins their hair out but as soon as I get home i take it off. i also moisturize several times a week all over including my edges to alleviate the friction cause my hair is moisturized. everybody's hair is different though. some people also forget that with wigs, weaves, and braids that you have to take care of your hair underneath. did the ladies you know take decnt care of their hair with DC's, trims, moisturizing/sealing? were they using heat to straighten or blowdry their hair before putting the wig on?

i finally learned how to cornrow..so i do those and tuck the ends under..then use a wig/stocking cap...i moisturize my hair 2x a day and co wash at ;east 2x a week

I have my friend braid my hair in a bee hive pattern and I wear either a do rag or a stretchy mens skull cap under. I'm not a big fan of the stocking caps because I have heard too many complaints (on lhcf and IRL) of thin edges as a result of wearing them.

get the men's satin skull caps

I use a men's sport skull cap as well. I can go at least 2 days between moisturizing my natural hair when wearing it- that's how good it works at helping to retain moisture :yep:

ETA: I put my hair in four plaits, cross them in an X pattern across my head, and pin them down

can someone post a link to the mens slull cap? I have one that I sleep in but when I tried it under a wig it seemend to slip off.

I've been using a wig cap but I'm not sure my edges are happy with it.

Also, for the ladies that moisturize, what do you use? Right now I only moisturize once because I'm afraid of my braids getting wet & smelly.

I wear box braids since my hair stays more moisturized in this style as opposed to cornrows(I did this style previously). I don't wear a wig cap or satin scarf underneath and my hair is doing so much better. I haven't had any breakage on edges and I've been doing this the last week in Nov 09.

When I was wearing wigs in 2008, I used to wear a wig cap, wave cap or satin scarf and my edges suffered damage even though all the combs of my wigs are always cut out. Since that experience, I've chosen to never wear any type of covering under my wigs.

I've been keeping my hair in 6-8 twists, pinned down/tucked under with a wig cap over them. Front combs cut out.

I think I might get one of those mens skull caps that yall are using.

My hair is in 12 twists and I cover it with a skull cap that has little holes in the top so my scalp is allowed some air. Somedays I wear a plastic cap over my twists and then put the skull cap on. The plastic cap really helps with retaining moisture, but I wouldn't recommend it unless you cowash/rinse your hair at least 4x/wk.

Does anyone else baggy daily under their wigs? I moisturize and wrap my hair, throw on a shower cap and then put the wig cap on top of that.

Sometimes I braid and pin it, but I get a flatter result when i wrap.

^^^^ lovin the wavy tresses

Thanks!!!

Besides the moisture benefits, I mainly do it because my skull cap isn't silk or satin and I don't want it rubbing my hair all day and risking breakage.
