I have been wearing weaves since my graduation from college which was May 9, 2009 and I finally decided I wanted to see what my hair looked like this Sunday . I 've been wearing sew ins because they were easy to manage while I worked out and I wanted to see if I could get my hair to grow back. Now my hair has grown soooo much . The only problem is most of my relazer has grown out and I have no idea what to do. It took forever to wash my hair because it curled up so much and I've never had to deal with this. When I finally finished it looked great:grin:, but then I worked out the next morning before work and it curled right back up :wallbash:( I sweat heavily in my hair when I work out).I'm so tempted to get a relaxer, but I do like the idea of having natural hair! I need help on what I should do..has anyone experienced this?!?

I've attached some pics of my hair growth. The pic with the cap is before the sew ins and the other pics are of my growth (ignore the face I'm making in one pic I was acting silly). My hair is probably actually longer , but it was a jungle back there and that is as straight as I could get it!!!

It sounds like your natural hair took you by suprise, and that you prefer having straight hair right now. I can't tell you what to do, but having natural hair is a big change, and if you're not ready, caring for it can be very frustrating. Weigh the pros and cons of being natural or relaxed, and just do what's best for your lifestyle right now. Oh and you got a lot of growth! HHG!!

Yes I was to surprised..I'm gonna think over it this week to decide what I am going to do because I want to keep my hair healthy but I've been putting heat on it the past two days, because I dont know what else to do.Thanks for the help!

I know there has been some debate about this but in my opinion natural hair very new natural hair has to be trained for press and curl. Pinkskates is one of the best on this site for doing that, I an sure there are others also you can talk to.

But with two different textures this could be even more interesting. I think Allandra and some others may be able to chime in and give you some good advice. There may even be a thread of here for transitioners.

Either way the best thing is healthy hair care practices no matter what you decide.

And just let me say that is some gorgeous healthy looking hair on your head lady.

Just remember if you decide to go natural this will be a total mental shift also. What you had done previously will no longer be the status quo. If you are ready to handle that or at least test drive it, have the knowledge to do that so you won't get so frustrated.

:yep:

I say, maybe try out some styles with your natural hair. A wash & go or a twist out. & then you won't have to worry about reversion. Or you could just get another sew in & learn how to deal with natural hair more through research.

Thanks everyone for your help! I've decided to wait on the relaxer(I'm actually getting my hair pressed now lol)My stylist told me that I really didn't need one and that he didn't want to shock my hair since I haven't had a relaxer since April.Plus most of my relaxer has grown out. I think I'm just going to give this natural journey I try and come to the forum more often so I can learn more.
