Hi everyone! I've been reading and following advice from this website since june 09 and it's very helpful. This is my first time posting anything because i just joined and need help.

I feel like i have a good regimen so far because my hair is growing, im relaxed by the way, but certain things i try are not working for me and i dont know what im doing wrong. first when i tried wearing buns i took the advice and didnt wear them tight but my hairline and edges still fell out or balded so i stopped wearing them and went back to heat which brings me to my next issue. when i go without heat my hair is really fuzzy and thick and doesnt look right in anything but a pony or bun. i dont have a sit under dryer yet and i tried bantu knots but still dont know how to do them, so my question is what can i do besides the bun since my hairline doesnt like it and what can i do without the blowdryer and flat irons?

Hey!

First of all, welcome to the board!

Secondly, there are plenty of heatless styling options available outside of the ones you mentioned. There are braidouts, two-strand twistouts, flat twistouts, air dryed roller sets...the list goes on and on.
HTH!

Though I'm not relaxed, it sounds weird that your hairline is being effected in such a way when you take all the precautions of not bunning too tightly, etc. Have you ruled out maybe the edges are thinning/falling out due to over-processing?

If you don't want to do a bun or ponytail for a style but want to protect your hairline and edges, perhaps you can do rollersets? or braidouts?

I'm sure someone will chime in soon with more advice. I hope everything turns out okay!

idk my edges were actually growing but then the buns were making them thin again but idk if its overprocessed or not good question. how do i know when it's overprocessed?

I have never achieved a successful wet rollerset, but dry rollersets using flexirods have worked for me and the look lasts. Let hair airdry with a good leave in, then apply a moisturizer and seal w/ an oil, then roll on the flexirods. I sleep in them the first night. Each night after, I apply a bit of oil to the ends and pincurl at night to maintain. The result is beautiful, bouncy curls. Also, braidouts are great low manipulation styles that add texture and allow hair to grow/ heal. Buns/ ponies are not my friend either. My hair is not long enough or thick enough and my buns and ponytails looks piddlin'. HTH

If your edges are still fragile/thinning even without buns or ponytails, then that may be the culprit. Do you self-relax? If so, what's the first area on your head that you relax?

Welcome Chocolatedoll18!!! I am sorry about your edges ---how often are you relaxing? are you keeping your hair (edges) moisturized? When I was relaxed I figured the reason my edges were breaking---I was not moisturizing properly --I would neglect that area not on purpose but out of my bad habit of skipping over the area. I know you will find the answer to your questions here.

Welcome...although I'm a newer newbie than you are. :lachen:

Question: have you tried doing either a middle or side part ponytail and sweep the hair down and around instead of straight back? I find that one of those two will alleviate some of the edge-tension (a term I just made up:grin:) that ponytails can sometimes cause to occur.

I think the more knowledgeable ladies have made some valid points with respect to your edges and overprocessing, and the possibility of airdrying and/or rollersetting. The best advice I can give as a mere fetus on this forum is for you to try and unearth the culprit that is causing the problems with your edges first before manipulating it further.

I hope this has helped in some way.
