Oh yah, they definitely have a kinky texture. And I too believe that the hair typing systems leave a lot out! I see Rachel True who is "typed" as a 3C, and I am like...uuuh at one point does my hair even REMOTELY look like that, I could shingle my curls from here to high heaven and still not look like that......lol Ah well...

You are mainly a 3 and when I saw your thread on the rollerset, I said, "this girl is not a 4B". A good example of a 4a/4b would be Southernbella.

Pretty! I would say a 3c/4a-ish hybrid. I agree with others that there may be some slight heat stretchedness going on. Beautiful hair.

Maybe you have curl definition now because you're heat trained a little? I don't know a thing bout hair types really, but I would say 4a? Beautiful hair!!!

I have no idea...I know that my texture has completely changed, I have never had this much curl definition. Prior to the end of 2008 beginning of 2009, I straightened my hair every two weeks, with touch-ups in between. This year, I pressed my hair maybe 5 or 6 times. So I don't know if that has anything to do with it or what...but yeah.

^^it probably does ..there is more then likely a few heat stretches in there... I say ur a beautiful 4a

i would say at the root you look 4a...but the length of your hair looks 3c-ish...maybe from straightening???
my hair looks similar to yours

Even if it is trained, it still looks good! I have seen way worse. You must have strong strands! My hair is fine, it couldn't go though that. At least you don't have any straight pieces. :yep:

Girl, LHCF was not the place to come to if you wanted an answer to your question. You're going to be ten times more befuddled about your hair type after this thread

Type 3b mainly.

I'd say 3C/4A
Andres hair typing system is flawed and we can't all possibly fit into a few categories. I have wavy hair in the front that's very dry and not one curl in sight. In the back it's wavy but a different texture, more silky. The crown is curly and dry as hell. What type is that? Sounds like a crazy type if you ask me.
You have beautiful hair. Forget the hair typing.

ETA: I was looking at it with my iphone. Now that I've taken a better look I would say 3C. Your ends don't look heat damaged to me.

Ok I was cracking up reading this!! I am with you...his hair typing system is definitely flawed!! Your hair is beautiful by the way...you are one of my hair idols!

The curl pattern looks type 3 to me but the actual texture looks more like type 4.

Either way it's gorgeous!

I don't like hair typing because it doesn't help me.

It doesn't. I have 4 different curl patterns on my head. So what! I use the same detangling methods, conditioner, styling products, and oil on all of 'em.

You hit the nail right on the head!!!!!!!! I was shaking my head the entire time!!! LOL

Yeah...I thought so . Based on curl diameter alone your hair is mostly 3b/c but it terms of behavior, it's probably closer to type 3c/4a hair (like mine). But there's so many different textures it's hard to pin point. Your hair doesn't look heat damaged to me- there are parts of my hair that barely wave and they just grow that way :kanyeshrug:. The only thing this thread proves is that this whole d@mn hair typing system is BOGUS!

The curl is like a 3bish but the texture towards the roots is like 4a. The looser curl is probably due to heat "training". Id say ur true texture is def 4 something tho:)

I think that's what confuses everyone. IMO texture (meaning degree of silkiness) trumps everything else.

ITA, texture is more the determinant of how your hair behaves than curl size (Andre's typing system).

However, I think LHCF should stop using Andre to note texture--his system is for curl size only. Using it for texture is precisely what makes it confusing.

I think Andre's misconception lies within the fact that according to his system, curl size correlates very closely with actual texture, i.e. 1a-3a=silky hair. This is hardly the case. There are many Polynesians who have 1a-2a hair with very little wave or curl that is highly textured, almost to the point where it resembles afro hair. Likewise, I have seen individuals like my mother and other members who have silky 4a hair that is very easily manipulated to the point that it can even resemble type 2c/3ab hair :spinning:

Roots look 4a and the very ends in the front look 3b. The middle is somewhere in between (3c). I think you are heat stretched. Beautiful hair!

Judging from the second set of pics, you are 4a. Your curls are probably stretched from heat damage.

I agree with this. I thought you might have some relaxed ends left on your hair, but it seems like it could get like that from heat as well...

My vote goes to 4a with a little 3c mixed in there somewhere.

The roots are definately 4a - and very pretty!! :yep:

Ya, I definitely agree with this 150%. My mom is one of those silky 4a folks that can resemble 2c/3ab.

I definitely think we are hair twins!! You know my hair too well, hell better than I do! :yep: I have definitely learned a lot from this thread. The hair typing system is definitely bogus, and the only important thing is that I recognize the different textures, and learn how to properly maintain them, at the end of the day what difference does it make what "box" I belong in...just be. Oh ya, and that there are other people like me that have 10 different textures, because I swear I thought I may have been the only one.

I too have parts of my hair that grow out with little to no wave, I have some areas in the "kitchen" that are straight at the root, and sections back there that just bead up (beadie beads)...lol
