Arrrgghh :nono: so when I first started my hair journey almost a year ago, I went and checked out the pics of the hair types...you know the chart of the 1A - 4B heads?

Now I am alllll sorts of confused, because I have some people tell me that I 4 something, and some that say I couldn't be 4 anything. At one point I thought I was a 4 because in the beginning of my hair journey, my hair was kinky, with no curl definition...and was dry 2 seconds after adding water (not really, but you get my point); not only was my hair extra dry, but my strands are nowhere near fine, quite the contrary, they are thick like horse hair strands. So I had thick cotton basically, so much so that I NEVER wore my hair in it's natural state. It was always pressed.

Now when people question my hair type...I have no idea...I wanna say 4, but then some people are like well then you must be telaxed (which I'm not by the way). I understand why hair typing is important to some folks...but I guess my question is, is it possible to fit into ONE category? And if so, what do I fall under? I honestly don't know anymore :wallbash:....So ladies, will you chime in and help a sista out??!! Sorry for the long post (rant) These are recent pics (last night).

you look like a 3c or 4a to me.

ETA: ok now that i see the second set of pics i think 4a.

Very pretty hair!

I would say primarily 3c. With some 4a and possibly some 3b.

I agree with those who have said that your hair is not 100% type 4, which is tiny coils smaller than the diameter of a pencil.

Don't stress out about it though! It's not worth it, lol.

I think we're cuzzins. Different looks depending on whether it's wet or has product on it or left to dry into a huge mass of frizzy puffballness.

Don't sweat the types girl, folks will argue you down either way and you'll end up more confused than ever. Just call it Type-(B)eautiful cause that's what it is!

Your hair type is MINE actually . I just say type 3 with some 4a/b . There are some parts that look like highly textured 3a hair, but most of the curl diameter is in the 3b/3c range.

Let me see if I can guess right: your hair is fine/medium, thready-textured (not silky like most type 3s but can look silky when straightened), dense, gets very dry, but weighs down very easily with things that work well for Type 4 hair, and can look like 4a/b hair when manipulated but the actual strands are loose S-waves (some being tighter S-waves). When dry with no products it looks like a blow-out and with additional manipulation can get straight from combing, brushing or bunning? The crown and sides of your hair are pretty much wavy curls, but when you lift of the back and perimeter it looks like an entirely different head of hair? When you add heavier products your hair looks like clearly defined type 3 hair?

Is that correct?

DON'T MAKE ME COME THEIR GG YOUR HAIR IS GORGEOUS NO MATTER THE TYPE.:lachen:

See this is why I don't like the hair typing system. I refuse to believe that so many black people only fit within a few categories of hair type.

As someone with atypical hair type to the other female members of my family (very fine and soft with the most minuscule coils) I do not get or feel this system is useful to me.

I really think that we need to come up with our own system on LHCF . Surely we have better resources in member texture shots than any system Andre ever came up with.

You hit the nail right on the head!!!!!!!! I was shaking my head the entire time!!! LOL

yea, I was going to ask if she wears her hair flat ironed/pressed a lot because the ends look a little "heat stretched" which may add to the confusion...still gorgeous!

You are right, I have worn my hair straightened since August... I believe it was around the time I did the caruso curls, I have been straightening about once a month since then. I think eventually those ends will have to go, this is the FIRST year in about 12 years that I didn't press my hair every two weeks, so I think after another 6 months, I will do a mini chop to get rid of that crap. :lachen:

I think you're a type 3B, in terms of curl diameter, but you have some very thick strands, that seem to have a kinkier texture.

I am learning that the hair typing systems leave a lot out - it's more than how big, tight, or loose your curls are. It's texture, strand thickness, density, etc.

I agree with this

Sorry but I’m unsure of your hair type as I’m awful at typing but just wanted to say that your hair looks beautiful.

Oh yah, they definitely have a kinky texture. And I too believe that the hair typing systems leave a lot out! I see Rachel True who is "typed" as a 3C, and I am like...uuuh at one point does my hair even REMOTELY look like that, I could shingle my curls from here to high heaven and still not look like that......lol Ah well...
