Hi ladies! I am somewhat of a newbie with a slight problem. I just got offered a job at a non profit in DC as a legislative staffer. This means that I will be on Capitol Hill at least twice a week for work. My question is, what are some appropriate hairstyles that I can wear that would be appropriate, but still young looking, as I am only 23. Thanks in advance for your suggestions!

Are you relaxed or natural? How long is your hair? How do you usually wear it?...Sorry so many questions, but you didn't give us much to go on.

ohh sorry...I have relaxed hair. I usually wear it in a full weave, hence my avatar, but I would like to start wearing my own hair which is slightly above shoulder length. I feel its time to start wearing my own hair, but I'm just worried about maintenance.

Pinned updos are a great option. Rollersets are great too. As far as maintenance, just make sure you're moisturizing often, and DC'ing with washes. Braidout and twistouts should be good too. Honestly I think you can get away with alot of great styles as long as your not wearing any trendy asymetrical styles or shaved sides a la rihanna. Good luck!

I agree with updos and buns. Simple professional styles that you can be creative with, keep your hair from rubbing against your suit, and won't hinder your hair progress. Congratulations on your new job, sounds like a wonderful opportunity. Hope you enjoy your time on the Hill!

tucked/rolled buns, french rolls, bobs, or grown out bob'd looks, hillary clinton's hair (ok i like her hair, i'll admit it), and the one and onnly michelle O's hairstyle. classic, clean do's that aren't too trendy but easy on the eyes. rollersets may not be appropiate.

If you want Michelle Obama's do, it's real simple and classic. You could do a roller wrap to achieve it, or just flat-iron and bump the ends and wrap it at night to keep the style.

I would do some updos', half up hair styles would be nice too, this is a new era so you don't have to be super stiff. As you see the 1st lady wears her hair very nice and not in stuffy styles.

other than the half up and updo's i'd still wear my hair out.

I know ladies (sistas) who work on capitol hill and they mostly wear sleek ponytails or shoulder length and bumped. Buns and updos would be good too, as long as your hair is neat and polished I don't think it would be a problem. I would wear buns and ponytails the first week until you see for yourself the culture there.

Save the updos for special occasions or when you're having a bad hair day. Wear your hair down with simple flowing, bouncey hair with a little curl or straight---no Shirley Temple curls or gel'd up french twists.

Well, usually when I see the hair of women that are in governmental and corporate settings it's usually either pulled back into a sleek updo, and if it's down it's very swinging and bouncy, like a rollerset. So I guess you can utilize rollersets and buns.
