on the market in your opinion? I'm looking for help. I bced a few weeks ago and my hair is going through changes. I'm just trying to find a staple product for well defined curls. Any suggestions?

I don't use a "curl activator".

I use jane carter solutions twist and lock sometimes in conjunction with Fantasia IC Gel or jason aloe vera gel or tresomme curl milk. sometimes a combination of the above or alone. i do not do wash and gos. i will do finger twists, flat twists or 2/3-strand twists.

I am not natural, but my friend is. She uses curly pudding by Curly Kinky. I used it once when I was stretching my relaxer and it really defined my curls (my hair is wavy when wet because it is processed). I am going to purchase some for the winter which is when I tend to stretch.

IMHO, you have to try different things. For instance, I really like Noodlehead for defining curls. I tried the fantasia ic and I didn't like the hard feeling and it was dull after it dried. I'm still in the twa stage so in the morning I wet my hair with water and glycerin, then apply noodlehead. With fantasia it took all day for it to dry and it was sticky too. Their are lots of great products but I did not want to get stuck buying products that were super expensive and you can only buy online. My mom bc 2wks ago and she likes Scurl and fantasia ic. She has 4b hair and it gets super dry so she likes the constant moisture. HTH

smooth n shine curl activator is really good. soft curl,s nice shine, no leave in needed.smells ok

as for regular gels i like wet line xtreme gel but is hard to find in the states. its from mexico. its moisturizing, great shine and smells like green apples:lick:its also really cheap. needs a wee bit of leave in or it can get hard.(I prefer infusium 23 mixed w scurl as my leave in) it has a better hold than smooth n shine which is why i like it. i can wear it for a week with out having to wash it out.

clear fantasia ic dosent work well in my hair. its like im putting water on my hair(ie does nothing) but the blue is better. but it gives me a sticky finish i e i would play with my coils and have sticky bluegrey residue :nono: you cant see it but if you touch it for a while it will accumulate on your fingers. i had to wash my hair every 2 days or less with this product. hair felt very coated but this gel also gave me the most elongation due to its heaviness.\
I am a medium-tight 4a with coarse strands

For my wash n go's, what works for me is a curling conditioner (HB TT) and then sealing it with Nourish and Shine.

Cantu shea butter leave-in or Fantasia IC Sparkelite gel. A denman brush also helps. I don't use traditional "curl activators" (that are associated with jherri curls).

I've tried a gazillion curl activators.. miss jessies, world of curls, soft and free curls, and none of them worked. I've found the best curl activator is NO curl activator, I already have curls, what do I really need to 'activate'? All I do I was and condition my hair, rinse it for like a minute then add i little bit more conditioner in my hair and its curly. I use HE HH, but I want to try LTR Leave In.

I dont really use curl activators.. gel works for me, and the only gel my hair hasn't laughed at is Olive Oil Ecostyler Gel ...I said I wanted to try puddings and custards..however if it's not broke, why fix it?

I was coming in to say S-curl.
I don't use it to activate my curls, I use it to keep my hair moisturized. I notice it gets very very dry now that it's colder.

The S-Curl works great!
Did anyone say S Curl? That's what *I* like.

they have the bolded down the street from my house. I didnt know that it comes in a clear, black, and a white gel. and it comes in a big jar too! I think this is the gel Chicoro uses.

All the activator gels I've tried (Long Aid, Smooth and Shine, etc.) make my hair and face sticky. Is that normal or am I just heavy handed?

CFCG (Care Free Curl Gold)

I second this. I stumbled upon this by mistake when I bought another activator that I "thought" was gel. But it smelled funny so I decided to try the care free curl. I use this along w/my fantasia IC (clear) and my hair is in heaven.

I love using S curl to moisturize my hair, but since I do not wear it out in wngs I can't tell you how well it defines curls/waves.

STILL USING AFRICAN GOLD CURL ACTIVATOR. not sticky....works great...love the consistency. getting great results in terms of thickness, retention and the shorter strands finally growing out fast.
