do u get flak about wearing your hair natural, curly, kinky @ school/work?

I mean I'm not saying the big pouffy glamorous hair, just a styled bun, or pony, twists, braids, is it just a hater or is it the higher ups: teachers, managers, etc... TIA
 
I work with close friends and family.The "it's time for you to relax" comes up often.When I tell them I'm going natural they just look at me like :ohwell: huh? If only more people knew about LHCF.
 
Not yet but every style I have worn so far is not prohibited by the AFI. The dress and appearance in regards to hair is vague and direct at the same time. Idk if bantu knots are considered a fad hairstyle but I wanna wear them and see what happens lol.
 
I wore my hair curly to class the other day and this white guy (I've been sitting next to him the whole semester but I usually wear head wraps) asked me how did my hair feel, did it feel like I had a helmet on :lachen: i just laughed cause it really WAS funny and I cracked a joke on him and made everybody else around us laugh and didnt think anything else about it. he slipped me a note during class telling me the office he works for was looking for people and to check it out. He also slipped me HIS number.
 
Nope, not in the least. This summer was nothing but back to back natural styles. One time I did two strand twists and came into my firm and my manager was like did you do that yourself? I was like yep he was like even the back? I was like:lol: yep....he was like WOW thats so cool! I love it!

No one at my job talks bad about my hair. They always give me complements and tell me how much they like the flowers I wear in my hair.
 
Yeah this uppity older blk woman at my job always ask me, when am I going to comb my hair, she has also said to me, that if I couldn't afford a relaxer she would buy me one for x-mas. Other then that it's cool.
 
Nope and I never have done. However, I did come into the office once with hair that I had stretched via banding as opposed to my usual puff on un-manipulated hair. The boss liked that style better and asked if I had combed my hair. I found it quite ironic since when I've actually combed my hair, it looks like it does in the puff versus the bushy band-out I was wearing that day.
 
I'm the only black girl in my class. I think mostly everyone's a lil fascinated by the fact that I'm not relaxed. I've gotten quite a few compliments especially on the days when my hair is open.
so I'd say no I don't get flak but I know people are paying attention..
 
The YT people seem to love my hair curly. There is one girl that is also going natural and says that she likes my hair styled curlly too. It's my family that seems to have a problem with my hair is a twist out. I think I look perfectly presentable, it I didn' I know some one at work would say something
 
One day I wore a huge puff and got a Jackson 5 joke which I just brushed off but no flak usually, I just get oohs and aahs about how I change up my styles, compliments and yes, the unnecessary unwanted touching :rolleyes:
 
I've never heard anything negative. When I was transitioning I wore twistouts & curly rollersets. I came to work after my BC with a 2 inch TWA, and got lots of compliments.
 
Nope, my coworkers have nothing but compliments for my hair. My only critic, unfortunately, is my mom :perplexed
 
I change my hair so much that my co-workers don't think twice when I go from shoulder length curly to MBL straight. I just make sure my hairstyles are acceptable according to HR standards.
 
No ... I haven't encountered any shenanigans and tomfoolery ... not yet anyway. So far, people just ask me what I put in my hair to make it so curly.
 
I don't really get many negative comments, just more comments about how I always switch it up. Some people like certain styles more than others though and they will mention it - but I love it all, so I don't even care!!
 
I have sisterlocks and I cut them short, so when I started this new position, I wore sew ins because I didn't want to be looked at crazy and judged...The black people were like..you know "THEY" don't understand the "ETHNIC" look, so you might want to wear your hair straight since you are in this higher position now...But one day, my little girl, said, "mommy" I want to put MY hair on! and I was like...let me just be me and wear my own hair...BUMP what they say...so boldly I walked in with my Beautiful Sisterlocks and I NEVER got so many compliments on my hair in one day! "THEY" absolutely loved it and told me how cute I was. I was like...WHY am I worried about this...people love me as ME! They hired me because of my CV...not because of how my hair looks...Are they more worried about my Doctoral degree or me having straight hair...you do the math...so I haven't worn a wig or sew in since!!!
 
No I don't really receive any flak. One lady asked why is my hair really short (shrinkage) one day and long the next. They seem to really like/compliment my hair more than anything.

I've noticed guys make a "I rock roughs and stuff"-lady rage reference when I where puffs. This is just out and about though, not at work.

Yeah I get flak mostly from my mom, when I wear my hair out she's always saying how unprofessional curls are yada, yada, there's always some excuse why I shouldn't wear my hair out, even on the weekends when I'm not going anywhere. I don't know what that's about, but other family members love it and I love it so I change the subject.

On the contrary, I get the most praises when I wear my 4B afro puff out at work. The day I first wore it after taking my braids out was wash day and my hair was still damp so shrinkage was HUGE. I wasn't too happy with it as I love big hair, but I got so many compliments...including my boss making me do a twirl so he could get a better look at it. To be honest, if anyone didn't like it, I don't think I'd even hear them coz when I'm wearing my hair out, you can't tell me nuffin.
 
I dont get really much flak but you can really tell the difference when I wear it straight. Tons of oohs and awws and why dont you wear it straight more's... But even when I wear it natural I think people may b more accepting because its longer (meaning not a twa or that in-between length).
 
No, nothing but love for the kinks and curls; I get lots of unhappy feedback when I wear wigs or weaves now that they've experienced my hair all summer. They seem to feel I have "too much hair" and that my hair is "too pretty", "too long", etc. to hide it away now. My response has been simply, "That's how it got this way and I'm going to keep tucking it away until my hair is to the middle of my back, thank you".
 
No flack, but a girl I work with said my hair "entertains" her. :ohwell: She's not African American, so at first I was a lil annoyed that she said that, but then I though about ALL of the crazy hair styles I've tried during transitioning and now natural stage and she's probably right... maybe it IS entertaining... but I still chose to wear it how I want to. If they can come in here with wet noodle heads, then I can wear my hair how God made it grow out of my head.:look:
