She burned my scalp with a blowdryer LOL

I had no business going to a salon on Saturday. First of all, I promised myself that I'd allow a "length check" in December to see if I finally made waist length. But my sister (she's lurking on the forum  ) kept talking to me about this great stylist in her city and I just had to try her out. I had Saturday sans grandchild and I showed up at the salon. She used to be my hair dresser when my hair was relaxed so I figured she was ok.

1. She shampooed my hair 4 times. I thought I was going to die. I had to ask her to please not scratch my head with her long a** nails.

2. I have natural hair. She rinsed out the conditioner and blot dried my hair with the towel to the point where my hair was as dry as sandpaper. I was panicking :perplexed

3. She sits me down on the chair and decides to put this conditioner stuff from Alter Ego all over my hair. I'm like ok well that's good.... ERR wrong answer! She "fluffed" it all over my hair leaving my hair big and tangled again.

4. She grabbed a rat tail comb and starts to rip out my hair in the front in order to detangle it. I grabbed a large tooth comb.. at this point I've had enough of this crap  and I'm visibly pissed off... and start to detangle my own hair. She gets annoyed. I don't care. I detangled my hair in 3 seconds. I'm already thinking I'll never come here again.

5. Ok I'm out of the dryer in one hour. She takes out my rollers and starts the blow frying process.... she burns one section of my !#$@# head and there's smoke everywhere. I'm so freakin mad at this point.:wallbash:

So I come home and yeah my hair is cute, nothing that I couldn't accomplish at home for free. As we say in DR "Ta bueno que me pase por fresca" I deserved this cuz I really had no business being up in there. OK so yesterday I was scratching my head and I feel a scab. I know what it is because I recognize it from my years of getting a relaxer. Don't worry she didn't slip one in my hair, I saw my curls after the shampoo process. This was from putting the blow dryer so close my my scalp that she burned me. Needless to say I'll never go there again. I have no desire to go to ANY salon ever again. I told my sister that if I ever go to a salon in the future I'm going to arrive in dry rollerset hair, all they gotta do is blow dry. I can't be bothered. I have too much hair and now its too long, they have absolutely no idea what to do with me.

Oh and for you women that are going to put that damn smiley up, I posted a picture LOL The picture with the green shirt, that's the stylist blow dried hair I paid $30 bucks for. The comparison one that says "Nov 2009" that was me at home, I did my hair. I went to her for nothing because you can't even tell the diff between the one she did and me doing my own hair. Well I don't give my scalp scabs. :nono::nono:

I love your hair BM...I just can not get over the fact that your a grandmother. You just don't look like it. I hope to look as good as you at your age now.

I am sorry to hear about your experience. I will never go to a stylist!

what the hell is with salons using rattail combs to detangle

I just DONT get it.

I don't get it either. She actually got MAD when I used a large tooth comb. She must've forgotten that it wasn't FREE.

Thank you BoingBoing! I drink botox everyday, keeps me looking foxy LOL j/k
The baby prefers me with curly hair. She likes to squish my ponytails and pull my hair. :nono: Abuse.

Every time I get the urge to go to a salon to get my hair trimmed or something, I end up reading one of these horror stories. It's like "Scared Straight: Hair Edition". That rattail comb is like the salon version of Bubba talking about selling someone for a pack of smokes.

Great progress

Nothin pisses me off more than hearing these tragic stories.. it makes the good stylist out there looks realy bad....

As a stylist myself, my first rule of practice is to put myself in the clients place.. would I want to be treated like that? would I use that on my hair? :nono:

OOOOHHHH! it just burns me up......:swearing:

WOW! BostonM! What a Story. It does make you Scared Skrait!

No One Can "Quite" Tell a Story like you!:giggle:

but........Your Hair is Absolutely Gorgeous!

And You've done a really, really good job being a DIY and You are truly an Inspiration.:congrats:

I'm so sorry that happened sweety! Ahh yes I've had my share of visits for the ever famous "blowout" yea your hair is blowing in the wind but thats because its been blitzed with heat.

If I hear of a stylist ripping thru someones hair with a tailcomb one more time!:fistshake: Then you ended up with a scab?!?!? some of these stylists are just over the top ridiculous:nono:

Either way you have some absolutely GORGEOUS hair!!!

Thank you. I haven't been to this woman in 2 years. Back then I had two textures going on and my hair was close to APL so I thought I could trust her. I'd rather let my grandbaby do my hair. At least when Leilany beats me with a brush she does it with love.

I'm so sorry that happened, BostonM. :( The good news is you didn't suffer and heat damage or a setback. Your hair is so amazing.

Thanks for sharing your story with those of us tempted to stray into a salon anytime soon. I've been fortunate with stylists but you just never know.

You've made great progress !!!!! From now on you better stay away from stylist, cause none of them could ever be as knowledgeable about your hair and give it what it needs like you can! Keep up the great work!!!

Thank you. I told my sister that I won't let some stylist that doesn't know how to deal with my hair make me have a set back. I did the BC in 2007 and I've done nothing but baby my hair to where it is now. You would've thought she was trying to tame a wild stallion or something the way she was working with my hair :lachen:

I also take my big tooth comb with me to get my hair done. So I feel it on that one. Nonetheless, it does look good and are sooo close to wast length. Get it girl!!!

your hair always looks amazing. I like it both ways. I'm so sorry you had that experience though. You do so well as a DIY though - I wish I were in Boston so you could do my hair for the holidays!

Oh gracious!! What a nightmare!! Further motivation to stay my butt at home instead of entrusting my hair to some idiot lucky enough to get a shop. Good thing you had that wide toothed comb and your hair does look exactly the same (if not better) when you did it yourself.

Congrats on your progress, it looks like you're grazing WL!

You always put me in stitches!LOL.
Sorry the experience went bad, but it was a warning to you and me to stay out of salons!

BTW: The hair is gorgeous!

Oye. BostonMaria, Nunca me creerias...
pero your journey was actually the thing that truly drove me to attempt this transition. Helpful stuff in that fotki of yours.
So thank you. Your progress is looking good :yep:

I do everybody's hair for free - my sister, niece, 4 daughters, sometimes my mom... come on over!

OMG, I am so sorry this happened to you, I had a cringe on my face reading your entire post.

Thank you! I'm going to buy a Hair Steamer to make my hair feel better LOL

Aww thank you very much! :drunk:

This is keeping me motivated about staying on track with learning how to style my own hair. I was raised on salons, and can barely part my own hair. I have learned how to straighten my own hair ( with great difficulty) but its an accomplishment. Stories like these ( and I have my own horror stories) keep me on the learning to DIY track. Thank you!
