My good friend who is a fantastic hair dresser is writing a book about hair! I am doing some research for her and decided to ask here first before I hit the streets this week weekend!!

How often do you go to hair salons? Rarely. Haven't been to a salon in 4 years.
Do you buy black hair magazines? No, but I read them occasionally when I'm at bookstores.

I would like to see more tips on how to make your hair healthy, and also more interviews of people that have healthy hair. I would also like to see more natural approaches (like herbs, supplements, ayurveda, etc...) and multi-cultural approaches to healthy hair (carribbean, african, etc...). Basically the principles of LHCF in magazine form :grin:.
Would you be interested in a book specifically about black hair and skin care? Only if it contains information that I'm interested about or I deem it reference-worthy.
If so how much would you be willing to pay for this book? It depends on the book and it's content, but probably $10. But having lots of glossy pictures helps. I love colorful pics and how-to's.

There are a lot of books on that stuff already. But for some reason its more intresting to learn black hair/skin care on hair boards than reading about it in a book all alone.

Well i mean i learn everything on here/online. So if its telling me something new that i have not learned on here, then i would say 20-30 bucks is a good price if it has unspoken information.

About 20 a month on products, sometimes less but that is a good average.
If I do wear a weave about 50 to 75 every 3 months. I self install plus my head is small so I only use 1 pack.

How often do you go to hair salons?

I dont. Havent been to one in two years and dont plan on it (lost confidence in hair dressers) I have considered going to super cuts 4 professional dusting but thats about it.

I dont buy. I glance at them in BSS and most styles seem to cater to relaxed heads and im natural.

I only buy products when I need them so I don't have a monthly budget. The past three months I've spend $0. Next month, I may spend $20. It all depends.

3-4 times a year for touch ups only.

I used to but not anymore. I used to primarily get Sophisticates Black Hair and occasionally Hype Hair. I figured since I wear my hair in a bun 365 days out of the year and I can't style my hair to save my life, I could put $4-5 to a better use :lol:.

When I did buy them, I wished there were more "how to's" and for those "how to's" to include specific product recommendations.

Their main focus seems to be on styling the hair as opposed to caring for it (e.g., what causes breakage, what can one do to solve breakage, what does it mean to moisturize, what causes split ends, etc.)

10 -15 dollars monthly except on relaxer month (which is every three months). I pay for the relaxers for myself, my mother, and my daughter and I spend between $180 and $200 that month :perplexed.

Every three months unless it's a special occasion and I have to look polished.

I stopped reading them because they all had the same information in them every month and they never told you how to make your hair health. When I realized they were in it for the money and not writing articles that were in my best interest I stop buying.

I don't buy them because of the limited content. They seem more geared towards relaxed and weaved styles. The few that have a section for natural styles usually focus on braids. Overall they tend to be focused on hair styles rather than healthy hair care practices.

Yes, as long as the information was on point. I would be interested in a book that does a good treatment of natural hair and skin care.
