I apologize in advance if this question has already been asked. I was curious as to which one is the better moisturizer for your natural hair? Which one do you like the best? And how long does the moisture last? 2 days, 4 days? A week even? TIA

I don't mean to hijack, but i bought my girlfriend some shea-co smoothing custard from caramocal-joy.com
it has no water in it, her hair has been crazy shiny ever since (3 days ago). and i was pretty upset with her natural hair upkeep lol. so that stuff must be a miracle lol.

Sounds like LHCF'er might have had a hand in that product!

ETA: i really have to change my answer. the qhemet heavy cream is amazing. it gives me the most moisturized hair. and i got my best braid out with the heavy cream and the ghee.

Afroveda's hands down!
I have 4b hair..which is usually dry.
But, the shea alma takes care of that.
My hair stay soft and moisturized for 3 days
and I use just a dab... Its wonderful and affordable!
*the smell is quiet nice, some people find it offensive*

Afroveda Shea Amla is much better.

Qhemet Heavy Cream:
Felt waxy to me
Left a nasty film on my hair
Not as moisturizing
Just sat on top of my hair
Way overpriced
Don't like the heavy lemon scent
Left my hair looking and feeling incredibly GREASY

Afroveda Shea-Amla Buttercream:
Nice whipped texture
Absorbs very well
Shea butter gives a nice softness to the hair
Doesn't feel heavy
Long-lasting moisture (2-3 days)
Very reasonably priced--great value
Yummy scent

(BTW, for me, neither of these products compares to Komaza's Califia Moisture Cream...that's my #1 favorite butter moisturizer.)

I honestly HATE the way the Shea Amla smells, but I like the results. However, I layer it on top of the AOHC, which is a true staple! I mix the AOHC with the OHHC and apply it in sections throughout the hair, and use the Shea Amla on the individual hairs when I twist it. I found that the Shea Amla alone actually left my hair feeling dry. If I had to pick only one, I'd pick Qhemet's because of the smell, which my SO isn't too fond of either (now, the Almond Ginger...).

Hello! Where you were referring to the products in my signature? Or just the qhemet and afroveda websites? I've never tried aveda's products before though, although I've seen their ads around sometimes.

I have both and its afroveda's shea alma all the way for me! The afroveda shea left my hair very soft with lots of shine for 2 to 3 days I did not have to remoisterize. But I did use the shea alma in conjunction with a dab of JBCO.

Qhemet AOHC did jack s**t for my hair when i used it. I do believe this is a very good product just not for me. I used it on wet hair first as a sealer it felt soft when i put it on and the next day however my hair was so dry. I used it on dry hair it made my hair even more dry. I still have that huge jar however I now use this as a prepoo. I part my hair and used it on the scalp then use JBCO to coat my ends and the rest of hair. I find it works best that way for me. I am able to comb through my natural hair easily in the shower when I use it as a pre poo.

I prefer to buy my hair products in the store, too; but if the product line can't be found in the stores, then I don't mind ordering them.

Caramocal-joy.com is only available online but there is free shipping on orders over 20 and I promise u its worth it... Especially with that sale they have now... AOHC hands down, especially in the winter.

Absolutely - all day, every day, 365 days of the year. Afroveda didn't do anything for my hair except make it dry and crispy - probably because my hair doesn't respond well to aloe vera and that's the first ingredient in all of her products.

I will say, though, that the Shea Amla was very well whipped. But I proudly stan for Qhemet and will probably not even venture out to try other products.

I haven't trried qhemet, I felt like it was too expensive. I'm loving the afroveda shea alma..... my hair is moist and I love the earthy smell. i have the 16oz and I know it will last me at least 4-5 months and my natural hair is armpit length. My scalp has has itchy fromt he shift in weather and I use it on my hair and scalp a minimum of 2-3 times a week but i could get away with just using it once.....I love the smell,lol.

Lately, since I've tried both butters, I've learned that for some reason, my hair doesn't like either one lol. However, you really have to go with what works for you. I like raw shea butter from sheanmore.com. HTH

I just got some Qhemet Cream, hopefully it is better then the SheaAmla..because that afroveda stuff just feels like im putting clay in my hair And its not that moisturizing either. But it seems to be more moisturizing then the CocoLatte.

I haven't tried the shea-amla but I have the cocolatte and the totally twisted almond butter and I AOHC. I prefer the AOHC on my natural hair along w/ the totally twisted butter & AOHC mixed w/ water on my flatironed hair. The cocolatte doesn't really absorb well into my faltironed or natural hair. I ordered the burdock root butter cream to see that would work on flatironed hair.

I'll have to agree with Mstar on this. I wasn't sure about this but now I am. AOHC leaves flakes in my hair and didn't moisturize my dry hair well enough.
I still don't know what product to use on my dry hair :S
