I have not had my hair done in a minute, but I was quoted $65 for a press and curl and I wonder if that sounds about right. I honestly really thought they were only about $30-40.

When I first started to transisiton almost 3 years ago that is about how much I was paying every 2 weeks. Her prices went up, so I have tried to find more reasonable prices, but even the Dominicans want to check for length, and charge me for that now.

ETA: love your avatar!

It probably depends on the city you live in. I used to live in Los Angeles. Some charged $60+. However, I never paid more than $40.

When I went to the beauty shop -- after a 10 year hiatus -- she charged me $40.00 for a press and curl.

The last time I got my hair professionally pressed some 7+ years ago I paid $60 for it. He deserved every cent, too, cuz he had to work it out!

Yup that's the price. At least you got quoted. Sometimes I walk in and they're like we can't do your hair.

Seems a lil high, I live in Philly and the average is about 40-45. But also depends on where you go, because some places charge by the length

In H-Town, they're asking the same thing....I'm like, huh? Even if I wash, detangle and blowout my own hair? Yep, same price, $60-65+.

So glad I learned to flat iron my own hair. I get to keep some strands AND some money.

yup boston, $60-65 in some places... the 'elite' salons :ohwell:
a couple of places charge less, but heat damage is more likely to happen with them.

This is precisely why I just ordered my platform. Even at $150 (once you add in the warranty) in a couple uses it will pay for itself.

Thank sounds a little high. I pay 40 in memphis, (45 with the tip :) ) but I guess it would depend on where you live. I got to a mostly natural hair salon in a nice part of town. I guess for that much money you would have to be sure that they were going to do a good job.

BTW I'm grazing BSL and the price never changed on me. (well not yet, hehe)

That price is very steep. When I was natural, many moons ago, I could get a wash, conditioner tx, blowdry, press and curl all for $40.00 on medium length hair.

I am relaxed now and can get all the above services plus color for $60.00

I live in NYC and depending on where ya go 60-75 my stylist a press and trim is $90 and she's worth every penny! I visit her 2-4 times a year for length checks and /or dusting since I am natural and protective style all the time.

I have been charged as high as $85, back when I was dumb, young and had no clue it was okay to consult with your stylist before they start doing your hair.

The medium was around $65, but let me tell you the EARNED it. My hair does not go down without a fight when being pressed.

that's about the going rate here in Arizona. the kicker is there aren't many black stylists here (that I have found and like) so you either have to pay it or do your own hair. I take my daughter to get hers done, but I do my own hair.

I'm still accustomed to $35-$40. I still see places that charge in that price range, and the most I've ever paid is $37.80.
