HELP MAJOR HAIR BREAKAGE, HAIR FEELS CRUNCHY!

Hello,a while ago I kept coloring my hair about once a week for 3 weeks which I know is a total no-no. MY HAIR BROKE OFF TREMENDOUSLY in the front. So i had a lot of new growth that looked like a mini afro in the front of my head so I relaxed just the front.
This was about 2 months ago. My hair has been doing good I havent noticed any severe breakage.

BUT whenever i try to flat iron it or put heat to it.. It BURNS MY HAIR OFF!! and feels extremely crunchy and hard. I cant even flat iron it because when i do it just sticks straight up..

Can someone help me with this problem, maybe you know the cause of it or how to fix it?? And will I have to cut it all off and start over?? Thanks

First, you need a beat down!!! No j/k! Do a hardcore protein treatment followed by a moisturizing conditioner for starters.

I agree. This helped me after a setback. No breakage since.

I agree with amwcah but in addition to that put in a style where you do not have to touch your hair like a weave or braids. I think that your hair just needs time to rest.

Please please please, lay off the color and the heat. You need to take better care of your hair. The best thing you can do for your hair for now is wash, DC and moisturize and keep your hands out of it. That means no to low manipulation or keep it hidden and protected for a while.

ive done a treatment twice i used aphogee 2min and keracare humecto... ths still didnt fix the problem. My hair feels regular when its wet and i air dry..
But jus one lick of heat and it gets extra crunchy and burns my hair off... :(

Did you use the Aphogee 2min reconstructor or Aphogee 2step protein treatment?

And when you say you used it twice, how much time in between each use.

I totally agree about no heat for now.

I agree with the other ladies...no more heat! Even if your hair feels better after two months, that isn't enough time for the hair to regain its strength, especially after being colored so often.
I do think that your hair would benefit from a serious protein treatment, followed by a good deep condition. If you don't want to cut it off and start again, then I suggest leaving it alone for a while. Maybe try braids and do the crown and glory method. Or a weave. Or wig it up.

Good luck!

One treatment will not help you. It is constant care that will help you. Im sorry to say but you may have done permanent damage to the rest of you relaxed hair. This may require trimming. I'm sorry to say it.

Your hair is telling you, "I don't like, want, or need heat." As was previously suggested, you want to give your hair moisture and a rest from a lot of chemicals and manipulation. Can you do a weave or braids for a few months?

Your Hair Needs Serious Rest. Rest from the Heat! Rest from the Constant Manipulation and Rest from the Hair Handling. Just Let it Rest.:perplexed

It's going to take Time. Keep it Clean. Moisturize and Deep Condition it. And make sure you add Protein followed up by Moisture. You may want to use Porosity Control as a Final Rinse After your DC Treatment to help with the damaged cuticle.

Leave it alone for a while. Give it some time and Please, Put the Flat Iron, Curling Iron, Blow Dryer (or whatever) Far, Far Away.:nono:

It will come back.

I wouldn't do a weave or braids. Only because I think it's best if you could have access to your hair to do a weekly deep condition. I'm thinking cornrows under a wig.

i think braiding my damaged hair will make it worse..its very fragile at the end..but right now i have a sew in with the edges out..ive been using castor oil to slick the broken hair down.. OH....
And the only moisturizer that makes my hair back soft again is ORS olive oil n the jar.. Its weird...
And i have laid off on the heat, the last time I used it was in the beginning of october

Do You Know How to take Care of Your Hair Under the Sew-In? You still have to properly care for your hair underneath or run the risk of further damage.

When I First started, I had lost about 90% of my hair due to a Salon Chemical Mishap. After I left that shop permanently, I just let my Hair Rest.:look: TOTALLY.

I kept it clean. Deep Conditioned it weekly. Used Protein, Followed My Moisture. I was told my hair was overly porous i.e. "damaged" began to work on getting my Porosity in Check and just styled what I had left, the best way I could and made the best of it.

I didn't add anything or wear anything. I put as little "pressure" on the hair I had left, as I possibly could.

I just let it be and it slowly began to 'recover' And I had Severe Damage.:nono:

@Bolded. Good!

I agree with southerncitygirl. You need to wig it. It seems that the temptation to mess with your leave out hair is great. It won't grow or heal as long as you are attempting to flat iron overprocessed hair. Because it is crunchy, I wonder if your moisture/protein balance is off.

Im not going to sugar coat it. The front of your hair looks dreadful. I would keep it moisturized and seal the ends every night. Don't you put any heat on it. NONE. I would lay off the relaxers for at least 8-10 weeks.

As your hair grows, cut that damaged hair off. Lay off the color for at least a year.

I agree with the

rest of the ladies...Absolutely NO HEAT!! :orders:. Seriously though,

don't put heat in your hair for a long time because I gather that your hair is

very fragile and using the heat is only incurring more damage :nono:. so put

that flatiron away for a lonnnng time Missy!! :yep:. Also deep

condition every week, alternating between something with protein and

something uber moisturizing :up:. Protective style...wig it! Just keep it

moisturized underneath. And when the hair gets stronger you can play with

bantu-knot outs/twist-outs/braid outs to give you sexy texture with no heat

:gorgeous:. And don't fret luv :yep:, with diligence and tlc your hair will

bounce back and be more beautiful than it ever

was:sunshine:

I agree with the protein/moisture DC treatments that others have suggested, but also you should look into doing some tea/ACV rinses.

Also, I would personally stay away from a sew-in. You really need to put your hair in either cornrows under a wig or individual braids. They won't do more damage to your hair as long as you don't get them done too small or tight, soak the hair in water & ACV then let the hair dry, and make sure each section of your hair has been moisturized with oiled ends.

Personally, if I were in your position I wouldn't have any of my hair exposed and you CAN do DCs in braids. You use a little more product to saturate your hair and the braids, but it's well worth it. To be frank, if you want to protect your ends, nourish your hair, and grow it at the maximum rate yielding maximum results braids or cornrows are the way to go.

Please take our advice and I'll pray that your hair's health returns. HTH and good luck!

This happened to me and I didn't have the patience to wait for it to recover hence the multiple haircuts

before I cut it all off though I asked my hairstylist from California what to do and she said Goldwell Kerasilk products are really good as well as Sebastian Drench condtioner and shampoo. HTH!

i highly doubt i'll be wearing wigs its out the question.. Neither braids because its not my style.N i have been careful with my hair Ive been dcing n balancing it with moisture/protein But thanks for the advice...
I dont really see the need to stop wearing sew ins because my hair underneath is not damaged, I (only permed/colored) the front.
Guess Ill continue to stay away from the heat like i have been and DC lke crazy. Thanks

Back. Away. From. The. Flat-Iron!!!!!

I agree with the other ladies, it sounds like you need a serious protein treatment like Aphogee 2-step. Make sure you follow it with a seriously moisturizing DC. Your hair is in a weakened state and CANNOT handle heat.

Stock up on deep conditioners!!!

The hair that is exposed while wearing the weaves is what is damaged. If you can't protect and rest the very part of your hair that is completely damaged, then the problem won't be fixed.

How will you blend the hair that is left out while your wearing the weave? If your not going to wear a full weave (with no leave out hair), then I don't think your damaged hair will repair itself if you will be manipulating daily and relaxing it.

Also, to be blunt, a fresh sew-in with short damaged leave out hair looks awful. A wig would look 100% better, and it will allow you to easily care for your hair.

Actually snilloh it blends just fine.heres pictures.

you have a weave installed in these pictures??

Take it from the weave queen here!!

The front of my hair looked just like this...I was ALWAYS getting sew ins and leaving the front out...well the constant heat and blending broke my hair off and left me with SHORT heat damaged hair in the front of my hair!!!

HONESTLY ur gonna have to let the weaves go :yep:!! Trust me its hard bc I was the weave queen, but it was taking a toll on my hair and the front part no matter how much u say that u can protect it and care for it...its gonna get worse bc ur constantly manipulating it!!

I mean when I play in the front of my hair strands would just fall out and it was a crunchy hard mess!!!

Deep conditioners are going to be ur friend!! make sure to deep condition and keep that area moisturized!! Also as it grows u may need to trim the heat damaged ends (which I have not done yet)

I said I would never wear a wig but girl I love them now!! Just start by getting a wig that is similar to the sew ins that u get and go from there....just make sure u are protecting ur hair under the wig bc it can add to the damage...but please stop with the sew ins and heat!!!

HTH (I have pics if u need any)

Tisk,,,tisk,,,tisk Miss Autumn,
No heat for awhile for you, so give it up missy. After you do the deep conditioning treatment do a poroscity condtioner. HTH! You are so on a time out miss lady. Go to the corner and sit there until I call you out.

I would also love to see you journal this experience and take pictures for us to see your progress. It will come back, patience and lots of TLC.
