Okay everything was going fine knots are less deep conditioning is great no build up and so on... So my only issue left is every time I flat iron my hair the ends ALL OVER are so much thinner and dryer than the roots and middle of my strands. I may need a clipping but even after clipping this is still an issue. I do moisturize and seal but that only helps for a few hours not even a day. Please help. You can look at the first pic at the bottom to see what I mean. And I'm not cutting it because it was even like this over 5 years ago when I was permed so I bc'ed 5 years ago and it was fine for a little while but the past 2 years its back again. Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks

My hair did this when I was natural but I don't think I was moisturizing properly. Have tried DCing?

When i get dry ends before doing my hair before bed i put a small amount of aussie 3 minute miracle deep conditioner on my ends. In the morning my ends feel good. But if you do that you have to be careful of over doing it, otherwise your ends will break of alone from having a different balance to the rest of your hair.

I had this same problem with my ends. My ends were a little wild looking and very dry where as the rest of my was fine. My ends just needed a little TLC. So at night I would moisturize my hair as normal but add a little extra to my ends and seal with coconut oil. Afterwards I would braid my hair to keep the ends together. I did this for 2-3 nights in a row and it helped a great deal. It also helped that I bunned during the day so I didn't have to expose my ends. HTH

Roux Porosity Control works wonders on my hair when I have issues like this. The Swastik Shikakai bar is also very good. :)

Also you must remember that the ends are the oldest part of your hair and the "open" end and prone to drying FAST. Even after you snip off old ends, you create a new end that is now the exposed end. When I say exposed, I mean: think of hair as cylinder. Most of the length is "closed" coz the cuticle forms a skin over it protecting the cortex and stuff. At the end, it's open coz when you cut, you don't create a seal like you might cutting play-dough. So every cut just exposes a new vulnerable end.

The best protection you can offer your hair is Wanakee's 100% sealing and protective styling. Sealing and leaving ends dangling still subjects them to rubbing against clothing--friction that not only strips off the "seal" but starts to wear the ends down. So it's almost a given that ends will dry up real fast and look sadder than the rest of your hair unless you're jumping hoops. Indeed there are extra steps you can take to make them look better (DCing, porosity control, acidic products to close cuticles) but if you aren't following Wanakee's strict regimen, then don't beat yourself or obsess too much. The best you can do is keep dusting to keep the "damage" from spreading to the rest of your hair.

If air can dry ends so much that split ends occur and retention is thwarted hence the need for protective styling in order to see length, imagine just how much more heat can dry them up to the point of frying them and exposing the truth about them.

thank u for so much info... i went to the wannakee site which guide should i click to read about the sealing and should i purchase their oil or will any work?

You don't need to buy their oil...pretty much any oil will do. I recommend using more natural oils, or commercial oils without high amounts of mineral oil or petroleum.
I use coconut, extra virgin olive or castor oil for my ends...my hair really likes those.

ooo cool i have some evoo

Maybe you can try adding castor oil to your final conditioner.

Sealing is just applying something to the ends to keeps them from drying. Wanakee had a product that looked and felt like Vaseline called "Constant Care for Ends". I think a few people on the forum used Vaseline when I first joined the forum and it worked for them, but I believe anything heavy like Castor oil should work too.

Lucia posted the guide in this thread: http://www.longhaircareforum.com/showthread.php?t=409426

And Micarae shared her success from following Wanakee's regimen in this thread: http://www.longhaircareforum.com/showthread.php?t=405590

one more question... do u think i should chop off some length to rid myself of all the dryness and knots or start protecting and sealing first? I'm about to put it in braids and I just want it in better health as the new year approaches

I would get a trim before putting in the braids if they're damaged (i.e. split or very thing). Also, the amount of heat the the setting could have something to do with your ends being dry since they're the most sensitive part of your hair. My ends used to be the same before I cut them off and limited my blow-drying and flat ironing sessions.

And if you do put oil on your ends remember to put it on the length of your hair as well. You'll want to keep the moisture level balances. Also, heat the oil up in the microwave for 10-15 seconds. I did that for 7 months after my last BC and barely had any split ends, which is unheard of for me! HTH!
