Hey ladies!! I did a nice rollerset on myself this weekend. I wanted to keep the curls that I spent hours achieving. The first night I went right ahead and rolled my hair on a million sponge rollers like I normally do. The second night I was sick of sleeping on so many rollers and so I looked up some youtube tutorials on pincurling.

I DID IT WRONG!! AND MY HAIR STILL TURNED OUT WELL. I forgot that I was supposed to turn each one of the little curls sideways....so I kind of mashed them. But they STILL ENDED UP OK. I had very minimal breakage and shedding

You just need to be careful pinning and unpinning. But you can keep your curls, you do not have to wrap your hair, OR SLEEP like a mario brothers mushroom, with so many rollers which is what my husband jokingly called me...

I know this is old hat to many of you ladies out there, but this is a note for all those who many not want to sleep on a million rollers after rollersetting and want another alternative. Try it and let me know what you think!

It sure does, if only I could figure it out, lol..

I tried them last week and failed. The curls in the front were nice but that was it.

Anew I will send you a link to the tutorial that helped me to learn last night. You can do it! I thought I couldn't either. I spent 15 minutes trying to figure out the process with one pitiful piece of hair LOL! And then it just clicked. I'll send you the youtube link, and then try again :)

Please post the link!

I really wish I could pin curl successfully but they always come out looking strangely dented and misshapen. :(

There was one girl on youtube who leaves hers in for 15 minutes and uses a blowdryer for another 15 minutes with no heat and they come out perfect. *sigh*

I don't know what happened, I used to do 4 pincurls at night and they would be fine in the morning.

They look terrible now, I have no idea what I'm doing wrong. I'll take a look at that tutorial. I may need to do more smaller ones.

My pincurls always look jacked. They never lay right. I'll peep at the tutorial and hopefully it'll work. I bought Goodies plastic mesh rollers and they are awesome! They didn't pull my hair and i had a good night's sleep.

I'll check out this tutorial. I've tried it before and my hair always looked flattened in the morning. Thanks!

Where are your pics?

When my spirals start to fall, I pin curl. This has helped me stay sane and encouraged during my transition. This is my pincurl at about 10 months into my transition. Curling my hair without heat is probably the next to the greatest factor of my hair growth and health.... stopping the use of chemicals was number one.

Your hair looks great PM. I could only wish mine turned out that way.

PMICHAEL, that pincurl looks good!! And at 10 months post??!! You got skills sistah!

after a rollerset my pincurls come out with more wavy curls instead of the spiral type curls..if that makes any sense. How are you getting the spiral effect to stay? I attached a pic...

I toyed with posting a thread about pincurls... I don't know where they have been all of my life.. but I absolutely love them... I like my > first day hair after I've had a chance to pincurl it...

I pincurl my hair every night. It really helps me maintain moisture and keep my ends safe at night.

Thank you so much! I really need to learn how to pin curl. I hate even my satin rollers that don't hurt much.

Yes what you are saying makes complete sense. I should have taken a pic of the pin curls as I took them out of my hair this morning.....as these are perfect curls and not wavy....but My hair has sweated since I went to the gym and as a result my curls are much looser.

But I know why yours are wavy...this happens if you don't flatten the curl correctly when pinning. When I first did them last night, I did not flatten the curls. So when I woke up in the morning some of them were wavy. This was what I meant by "I did it wrong and it still worked,"

Flatten each peice of hair. Take about an inch or so of hair start near the base of your head and roll like you would a roller, making sure you smooth your ends, otherwise you will have an ugly fishtail LOL....after you have rolled it, be careful not to disturb the curl and turn it horizontally. If you do the turning part correct, your curls should be curly and not wavy.....this morning, my curls were perfect, beautiful spirals, and not wavy.

I can't believe I got the pin curling to work. I was so excited I called my granny. LOL! She's been a pincurler for YEARS!

AMEN TO THAT.....it is the best way to maintain a rollerset. I can't sleep on all those rollers. LOL! And if done right, I had no shedding and breakage. It's all in the placement of the pins. In fact I found less shed hair even in the pins than I do with sponge rollers. Plus you don't have to use end papers and all that mess! Pin curling is a god send :)

Yes, i love pincurling. I wash and rollerset once a week and pincurl every night to keep my curls. Best of all, NO HEAT!!! I love them.

Its the Hydrathermal Naturals lady! (She's a member too).. But I didn't know she had videos... Thanks so much for posting this. I subscribed. I'm going to try this. Specially the bantus as my hair gets longer. I don't do mine either of these ways though... well kind of more like the 2nd to last. I just take the curls whichever way they want to go and make a circle and pin it flat. Turns out awesome. I'm going to try some of her other techniques.
