Coconut oil makes my hair dry, brittle and break. But very lovely on the skin.

BB oil moisturizer- awful, they just should have named it white oil moisturizer in dedication of pink oil.:nono:

I remember using this at the beginning of my hair care journey and it was great! It made my hair feel very moisturized. I stopped using it because it started giving me build-up.... I don't if i was using too much or what.:ohwell:

Giovanni Direct Leave-In, The worst, I took down some braids that I had in for a few weeks, wearing under wigs, couldn't wait to have a Great Hair Session, commenced to My session of Washing, Deep Conditioning, so forth and so on, applied the Leave-In, and was horrified at how coated My hair was, not only that, it was so hard to comb, no moisture at all, as if something else was in the bottle, I had to go back and check to see if I used the right product, so after sitting under the dryer for an hour DCing, I had to Re-wash My hair. Absolutely Pissed!
I second this one.. oh my...dry, tangled, me not likey..

Aussie products...I never met one I didn't hate as much as I tried not to. They were more waxy than drying for me. Neither waxy and dry are what I seek in a product.

That Mixed Chicks stuff I haven't tried (I ain't mixed, so...:giggle:) I KEEP seeing bad stuff about. Their line seems fully boozy which is odd given many biracials have major issues w/ dryness. Something's I ain't smart enough to to figure out? SHRUG

That was my problem with Aussie too, I had a horrible waxy buildup that coated every comb or brush I put in my hair.

I'm not mixed either, but I decided to give it a whirl. That mess was a waste. My hair was dry, crunchy, just all around horrible.

Chile...Wave Nouveau is for Scary Curls. If you ain't got no curl, don't give this a whurl! :lachen: Seriously, the stuff will dry out not jherri'd hair. If someone is saying "oh I love it, works for me" all they have to do is keep on using it. It will cease to work....w/ a vengence.

Some of y'all are too young to remember the curl era. People w/o curls thought it would "make their hair grow" and found out otherwise. It wasn't pretty

*side eyes Wave Nouveau bottle*

This is the second time today that someone is saying that jherri curl juice will kill your hair in the end. I'm going to take that as some kind of sign, and start looking for other moisturizers.
I can't lie...I love my Wave Nouveau..it makes my hair soft and moist. But I'm not trying to have a setback over it. :nono2:

ANYTHING with protein!
My hair is protein sensitive!

now that i think about it uniquehair, i think mine may be a little sensitive too.

i can say with my last relaxer it seemed to do well with a mid step protien treatment. it was my first time doing so.

thanks for all your info ladies!!!!!! very very helpful!!!!!!!

Just a little FYI about jherri juice and why people started to use it for growth. It think it's important to give some info cuz many folks here are using this product.

Many folks who had curls grew their hair to lengths they'd never had before and people attributed it to the "activator" (read jherri juice :giggle:) and started using it thinking they could benefit w/o having the full on curl. WRONG!!!!

For people w/ relaxers, it would both "poof up" and dry out their hair at the same time. For natuals the poof was less obvious (of course :giggle:) but it would make the hair VERY tangled and greasy yet crunchily dry. Both heads would get SERIOUS breakage. Ugly stuff.

I NOW know why curls "grew hair". It wasn't the juice, but the almost no manipulation the style demanded. You didn't comb or brush it much if you wanted the curls to be distinct, heat was the exact opposite of what you wanted (read dried up curl ain't pretty, see Ronnie Deveoe of NE for proof circa 83-86), and people simply got styles by getting it cut. The curl was the style itself, so no need for "black gel", hairspray, 80-11 braids and pony tail holders.

Simply put, it was a very low maintanance/low manipulation style. I don't think people made the connection back then between heavyhandedness and baldness. Too bad it stank and ruined pillow cases. That it made people walk around w/ shower caps on was unforgivable! LOL :giggle:
bahahahaha@shower caps , rotfl!

just let ur soul glo!

i let a friend with a curl where a white suit I had, couldnt say no, but I dang sure wanted to, but she had lent me anything I wanted to wear before, so I gave it to her, and got it back with a black ring around the collar

it was a bad arse suit too, trim cut double breasted fitted sailor type suit

I loved it so much! sigh

:rofl:My hair is so "particular":spinning:. Went through many hair ignant years of trying products by word of mouth. The best thing I ever did was do the natural thing without salons years ago. I love the fact that my natural hair will tell me quick what works. I refrain from giving a lot of hair advice, because I have never even in my own family even known anyone's hair as funny as mine. I am some weird hybrid of my parents' sides.

I know my hair is crazy and will act a fool unless i stay true to it. As long as it's healthy it thrives on moisture and oil and very little protein, but my hair loves fenugreek tea.:drunk:

I totally agree. My natural hair speaks so much louder than my relaxed hair. I've been trying everything under the sun and really found that I ALWAYS go back to the simpliest products (anything involving moisture and light oils:lick:)

TRANZ: My hair is pretty sensitive to protien( like you) but I know that I probably need some type of protien (maybe a mild one)....what products do you use that incorporate both moisture and protien?

I use: ORS Replenishing deep conditioner( I add oils so maybe thats why it works for me :perplexed) and co-wash about 3X a week( Aussie Moist/ HE HH). I also mix my powders (Brahmi, Shikakai and Amla) once a week for a treatment before i DC.

So far I don't think I have anything that has protien in it....am I wrong?

Well that ORS does :yep:

MzJai When I need protein, I have very different 2 products on hand...Motions CPR (light) and Aphogee 2 step/treatment for damaged hair (super heavy duty) only on an "as needed" basis and on the feel method. I know which one I need when I need protein.

What kind of oils do you add to the ORS? I hope not coconut cuz ORS is supposed to be a quite protein heavy line. For some folks coconut oil acts as a proten or proteinlike. Dunno way. What I tried from ORS, I didn't like for that reason (some condish w/ Olive Oil).

Iris/Irresistable is a serious expert on base oils. She can really guide you.

When i first experimented with my protien treatment i used that motions CPR and GURLLLLLLL did it leave me with a HARD HEAD:wallbash:

I DC afterwards and that helped, but geesh, I don't know if that was too strong or what but my hair HATED it!

I normally mix my ORS with either Amla oil or Brahmi oil. I only use coconut oil on my scalp/ends (vatika oil to be exact)

My hair has done very well so far on moisture, so I dont' think i'm doing anything wrong, but just scared of things changing after a while and having to find something else that works, because LORD knows it took me long enough to find the staples i use now

What i know DOES NOT work for me is Elasta QP H2 leave in....r u kidding me? This was some NYC tap water in a bottle!:wallbash::wallbash::wallbash:

BAHAHHA @ the Elasta QP , I was like 'are you serious' too, its a fine mist of water , thats how I used it up too, just misting my edges till it was gone, did not repurchase

that stuff is pointless

not all hair is the same , But CPR never ever failed me, it was my first love, I could leave it in overnight and everything, hair felt like butta

but if you were using other products with protein at the time or the CPR line at the same time, it could happen

I still use ORS as a detangler, but its the conditioner that jacked my hair for months-I tempted fate and left it on as a leave in with mango butter

orange/mango .....yum, man was my hair jacked!!!

Well since i found out from you that ORS is a protien Deep conditioner then I guess that's enoughf or me. I think other "stand alone" protein treatments just don't work on my hair:nono:.

I'm going to stick with what i know so far because as someone mentioned... i don't want to end up starting a thread about "how i lost 3 inches due to experimenting" NO WAY NOT ME!

BTW Irre...your hair is soooooo long and healthy looking. what have you been doing?

Definitely Infusium 23.....CRUNCH CITY......

Neutrogena Triple Moisture Silk Touch Leave-in Cream ......total joke. My hair was like straw within 30 minutes, and flyaways everywhere. I really don't get why so many people rave about this! Diffferent strokes for different folks

thank you girl, yeah stick with whats working, its good that you know now its protein, dont leave it in or change up with it or do anything different

I just keep it simple girl, I CANT manage my hair that much, So I just Cowash, add oil/conditioner and leave it till next time-whenever i get to it :look: and just touch it up or take it down and oil it in between
