I have been surfing the internet looking for new or better tiips on how to better take care of my hair and i came across this video.. The part im talking about is not til the end so you can skip to it..

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AlppO1W-OfI&feature=related

he washes her, then drys her hair and THEN conditions it. I wash, and co wash in the shower. When i cowash i drench my hair in water and then i put on conditioner... have i been missing the removing excess water part???:perplexed. my hair has always been dry after cowas could this be the culprit???

What do you ladies do??

Think this guy has some merit in what hes saying??

I towel-dry, then mix up my conditioner and add it to my hair. I read somewhere that if your hair is full of water, it can't properly absorb the coditioner.

I have no problems conditioning on wet hair , I dont even towel dry it first, just squeeze out the water some

I wouldnt dry my hair just to condition/dont think its necessary at all

but I do condition both wet and dry in my regimen, both work fine to me

Since he was doing a deep condition with heat then it makes sense that he would towel dry/blot her hair before adding the conditioner. To me that seemed logical because she was going to be under the dryer for 10-15 minutes. If he hadn't of towel dried/blotted she would have had water dripping down her face.

Of course, it was good info to know that excess water can stop the product from fully working. But just squeezing excess water from your hair is probably good enough as well.

I have had hair stylist use a towel to get rid of excess water before a deep condition with heat. But at home I will just squeeze the excess water out. I still get the results I am looking for.

huh..interesting. i wring water out of my hair but not alot. when i put conditioner on my hair the conditioner like runs out because of how wet my hair is, ididnt think anything of it. Maybe conditioner hasnt been getting to my hair all this time. Its funny what you learn, if you just keep researching, you can never know too much.

^^ I heard the same so on friday I pre-poo'd, washed and wrapped my hair in a towel as I dressed. By that time I finished my hair was only slightly damp. I applied the DC and sat with it for 45min(with heat), and Boy did it make a difference in my hair. Last week I applied my DC in the shower and it didn't have as much slip as it did this week.

Funny. It's only lately that i started towel drying my hair after i wash it. I do this now, bcause even when my hair is wet I prefer to condition in sections.

@Monchersi: interesting, like im really gonna have to try it. It seem this drying your hair has some kind of merit.

@ Keyawarren: i too like to condition in sections.

im excited, could this be the reason my cowash's dont take...maybe. i washed my hair on friday so i, probably going to cowash tues night......stay tuned!!

isn't he a member here?

I never thought to do this but I will be trying this next time. My hair is always soaking wet when i condition. I am itching to play in my hair now.

I always say there is no one right way to care for hair period. But after washing or cowashing, I always towel blot my hair to get all excess water out of my hair. Even let it air dry for 5 minutes. Then I deep condition with a hooded dryer with a plastic cap on.

I always towel dry before my DCs to about 80% dry.

When I co-wash, a shake the excess water out of my hair (in the shower) before applying.

I've had no issues with my DCs or co-washes not "taking", doing these things beforehand.

Not sure why he does it, maybe you can ask him why. I DC on dry hair mostly when I just don't feel like jumping in and out of the shower, shoot today was one of those days.

ETA- I agree there is no wrong or right way as long as it works for you. I normaly squeeze out the access water then wrap my up in my turban towel thingy while I dry off and stuff. By the time I take my hair down it's about 70% dry by the time I apply my conditioner.

I just watched the video and for some reason when you said "he dried her hair I thought he blow dried it, LOL. It must be the heat from this dryer, lol.

Ok, not to undermine this dude's experience as a stylist, but conditioner isn't supposed to penetrate the strand. It smooths the hair by sitting on top, so it's a coating, nothing more. The molecules are wayyyyyyyy too big to actually get through the cuticle into the cortex.

I've never towel dried my hair before using a conditioner. It really seems like an extra unnecessary step. If I'm feeling extra enthusiastic about it, maybe I'll wring the excess fluid out, by gently squeezing along the length. The only time I'll actually towel dry my hair is for a deep conditioner, and only because the directions say so.

It makes perfect sense to me: hair has a finite amount of absorbency. If you remove some of the water/liquid via air-drying it would allow more room for the conditoner to be absorbed. Dripping wet hair is saturated, so it wouldn't have the ability to absorb as much conditioner.

I always towel dry my hair before conditioning. To
me it makes sense. I think of it the same as I think of moisturizing my skin. If I get out the shower and lotion up without fully drying off, my skin is so dry within a couple of hours. If it's left soaking wet, to me there is not enough room for the product to penetrate like it should.

This is why I prefer to DC on dry hair, but when I need to shampoo first, I always use the turbie towel for about 10 minutes then apply my DC. It works so much better for me than just lightly squeezing the water out. The conditioner just sits on my hair instead of being absorbed
