I noticed my edges/kitchen & nape have been so dry as of late, but I have been so busy with other things, it really didn't dawn on me why.

For the last few days I have been spraying Pantene Pro-V detangler light conditioning spray to try to soften it back up....and for the last few days, I have noticed that a few hours later my hair is dryer than a desert and brittle to the touch almost.

This is an invite to help another fellow lhcf memebr out by telling them which products robbed your hair of moisture. Blow the whistle on which products have left your hair high and dry and any aggravating factors that may have contributed to the dryness!

here is my short list:

pantene pro v detanglerlight conditioner spray
and pretty much any other pantene product ....ever

here are a few pics of the dry areas....they are not that great. sorry in advance, i only have a cell phone cam. at this time.
my edges are so dry i can hear them crackle wheni touch them

never tried it, but being the product junkie that i am, i do have some in my bathroom closet ! did it at least stimulate growth in the area you were targeting?

the reminds me of something else i want to add to my list: nioxcin products

Thanks for the tip happylife, although I haven't used Pantene Relaxed and Natural for YEARS for this very reason.

Pantene Relaxed and Natural and Dr. Miracles both left a waxy, coated feeling on my hair. Guh-rosss!

Abba nourishing leave-in conditioner
Giovanni vitapro leave in treatment
Infusium 23 leave-in treatment
Salerm21 leave-in

I'm sure I can add more "leave-ins" I just may have to update, lol!

aggravating factors: using undiluted shampoo, just the wrong products for me, non soluble cones outside of leave in pdts
in general I would avoid
affirm wrap/foam lotion
affirm leave in conditioner
affirm oil moisturizer
setting lotion in general: affirm(strangely my natural hair likes it), lottabody
affirm cream moisturizer
anything motions
anything cantu
any ors moisturizers
ntm mask & leave in
moisturizing products with soy protein, ie giovanni tea direct leave in, paul mitchell supercharged moisturizer
capilo deep conditioners (dominican)
tropical deep conditioners (dominican)
12 en 1 deep conditioner (dominican)
miss key aloe vera and avocado deep conditioner (dominican)
Lady Fior olive oil deep conditioner( dominican)
yes to carrots mask
silicon mix deep conditioner
tea tree in anything supposed to moisturize
pantene/ relaxed and natural ( except for mask) anything on relaxed hair
hello hydration poo and con
oil moisturizers in general
abba leave in
cholesterols in general
ors pack
aloe vera alone and in moisturizers

Pantene was a nono even back in the days before this site. Even longhair WW say no way to that, so BW should really run.

Infusium stuff...run.

Mane and Tail (w/ frequent use, esp their conditioner. Cathy Howse was WRONG folks :giggle:) For that matter ANYTHING involving horses.

Dandruff shampoos of almost any sort are for oily WHITE FOLKS. Get a Grandpas Soap if dandruff is your problem cuz Head and Shoulders ain't for you. Even the commercials (not so) subtly tell you this. When was the last time you saw somebody Black in the adverts? Take the hint!
:lachen:

Good info! I am taking notes !!!
Thanks 4 the heads up. So have you tried sulfer 8 products ? Is that better for out hair when we have probs with dandruff?

Thanks for the tip! What good leave ins have you run across that didn't dry you out?

Ok...alot of y'all are mentioning Dominican products. IOW, they work well, sometimes TOO well.

LOL@ Pantene "Relaxed and Natural" how many conventional products can successfully cover both bases? This might be fine for relaxed heads tho, but I've never used it.

I learned this about the dominican conditioners with a quickness. Silly me going by product descriptions..... The only dominican protein I can use is emergencia and yes it acts like a protein tx on me but without the hardness. Still have to f/u with moisturizing dc. When still relaxing I used it a maximum of once between relaxers.
Right now I am loving the baba de caracol conditioner, but I still feel like there is some strengthening properties in it, but it suffices alone.

The wierd thing is my natural hair seemed to like the pantene r&n conditioner. But then again I wet and conditioned my hair like 3x a week, so not sure if it could last for a week. When I relaxed I tried to give it away to my then locing cousin and she was like hu-uh:nono::rofl:

Tranz chile is there ANYTHING that works for you wrt conventional products? :giggle: Sounds like you really had a bad time of it for finding what's good for your hair. No wonder you go by gut! I know why you're such a veda head now. Good choice!
:rofl:My hair is so "particular":spinning:. Went through many hair ignant years of trying products by word of mouth. The best thing I ever did was do the natural thing without salons years ago. I love the fact that my natural hair will tell me quick what works. I refrain from giving a lot of hair advice, because I have never even in my own family even known anyone's hair as funny as mine. I am some weird hybrid of my parents' sides.

I know my hair is crazy and will act a fool unless i stay true to it. As long as it's healthy it thrives on moisture and oil and very little protein, but my hair loves fenugreek tea.
:drunk:

Henna!
Unless I co-wash it out afterwards followed by a very moisturizing deep treatment. If I slip up I get straw, straw, straw!

Giovanni Direct Leave-In, The worst, I took down some braids that I had in for a few weeks, wearing under wigs, couldn't wait to have a Great Hair Session, commenced to My session of Washing, Deep Conditioning, so forth and so on, applied the Leave-In, and was horrified at how coated My hair was, not only that, it was so hard to comb, no moisture at all, as if something else was in the bottle, I had to go back and check to see if I used the right product, so after sitting under the dryer for an hour DCing, I had to Re-wash My hair. Absolutely Pissed!

Coconut oil makes my hair dry, brittle and break. But very lovely on the skin.

BB oil moisturizer- awful, they just should have named it white oil moisturizer in dedication of pink oil.:nono:

(Imma be a bit shady now, but you know I ain't lyin')

Lawdy I wish more of the sistahs here had YOUR attitude, but the site would be far less ehem "interesting" w/o all these "HELP I used X product NOT made for my texture, but I chose to defy it, it backfired and my hair's falling out in handfulls" posts! :lachen: Sorry, but....I had to say it!

Your lock'd cousin laughed cuz her hair woulda been like "Naw sistah, I ain't the one. I got sumthin fo ya" and hit her upside the head for tryin'.

I'm alot like you. I KNOW my hair and what will and will not work most of the time. That's a great advantage of being a lifelong natural. Even for relaxed heads, just being realistic about African textures will save you lots of pain.

One of the great advantages of being natural is knowing IMMEDIATELY if something's working or not, even on wet hair. It's a "feel" thing. Of course, this requires that you accept you texture for what it is and not for what you want/hope it to be. :look:

So true and on point! I am totally guilty of mismatching a product to my hair type.

Hmmmmm....glad you mentioned the coconut oil. I was looking into start using that with a deep condish after reading other memeber's raves about it.

Do you know why it didn't give you moisture? I am thinking oil= moisture.....but I am sure it not that simple. Thanks tons for your post &bringing this up!

You should try some for yourself happylife, alot of women on here love coconut oil and have good results with it. But me and a few others its just a no go. I have no idea why my hair doesn't like it. Ive been asking myself this for a long time. I guess its just one of those things that's not going to work for me. Coconut oil and a few others penetrate that hair strands and it makes the hair soft and protects it. Just try a small amount at first then go from there. You might like it. Hth

Mixed Chicks leave in
Infusium 23 leave in
Aussie leave in
Pantene anything EXCEPT the moiusture mask( and it only works like reg cond, nothing to write home about)
Hello Hydration shampoo and con
African Organics leave in mayo
Cantu leave in( it's alright, but my hair sucks up the moisture in 2 hours and for the rest of the day I look like a used match)

this happened to me with Cantu leave in...go figure. i think it has protein in it ( not totally sure and i am away from home so i can't check).
maybe this is behind the dryness i got while using it.
