Ladies....As we countdown these last few months of 2009...What do you need to know before 01-01-10?

Two things I would like to be better at heading into the New Year. I would like to Self-Relax and Flat-Iron Better.

What About you?

I would like to learn more about combating thinning and promoting greater growth in the middle of my nape. Great thread, Terri!

I checked off four:

I wanna get better at Self-Relaxing (my last one was a bit underprocessed in two spots)
I wanna get better at Flat-Ironing: I feel like I have a pretty good technique but it's more so that I wanna find what products will give me a silky result and which method will make it easier for me to do my whole head thoroughly
I wanna get better at French-braiding: LOL, self explaining...I feel like there are many cute ways to put it in a style and I would try it if I knew how to french braid!!
I wanna balance the protein and moisture in my hair-- I feel like it's a little too brittle sometimes, but I don't want to overdo the moisture
I want to learn how to rollerset***: this is a big one to me; I invested in a salon dryer, bought more rollers and will keep trying this (every other week, I think) until I get better.

Last, I want to find a regimen that is perfect for my hair...that will balance its porosity and moisture issues, and allow it to grow in length and thickness...I'm a product junkie, so it'll be hard, but everyday I see pictures of you ladies with your healthy hair and progress, I look forward to the day when I truly understand my hair and how to take care of it perfectly. =]

i need to know what will help thicken my hair

that is most important to me because i had a color accident about 3 years ago and my hair hasnt been thick since. it really bothers me.

I want to have mastered tree braiding by the end of the year, I'll style a few family members until I've mastered it.

I want to make it so that I don't have to trim for a year and a half or more because I'm staying on top of my ends.

I want to possibly color my hair for the holidays and I want to be sure Aveda color is safe on my hair.

I want to definitely have a new high end flat iron and purchase an ionic tourmaline ceramic blowdryer again....my last one broke:cry3:

I want to settle on a staple cuticle sealing final step I'm gonna be trying roux porosity control for now and see how that goes.....

I want to learn textured styles so that I don't have to keep relying on braid and wigs to take me through my long stretches.

Moisture/Protien still an issue. I want to be able to feel what my hair needs instead of going on a M/P schedule.

I would like to know
how to stop being a product junkie.

I would like to know how to make it to midback
in less than 3 years.

I would like to know how to properly
cornrow.

I need to learn how to keep it simple.

I would like to learn how to be PATIENT....

Hi T,
I plan to learn to rollerset and braidout before the end of the year. Also become more certain about my moisture/protein balance needs.

I need to work on a lot of things, but since I'm on a healthy hair quest, I'll vote to learn how to improve my edges, and thicken my ends. I've spent this past year improving the health of my scalp, roots, and new growth. Now its time to do the same thing for my ends and edges.

By the end of this year I need to know...
1. Which products will be following me into 2010. I'm challenging myself to one year of the same regimen and products so that I can get into the habit of consistency. So, whatever products I have on 12/31/09 will be the only ones that I will be taking into the new year.

2. I need to overcome breakage. I get it from detangling mainly and generally not being gentle enough when combing and braiding my hair. Part of that is just being heavy handed, part of it is not having a slippy enough product for detangling, and part of it might be a lack of protein (which I'm working on now). I plan to have it under control very soon so that next year can be all about retention.

I would like to:
~Learn how to cornrow my hair
~To perfect my flat ironing technique
~ How to get my crown under control so it won't be as dry and have as much breakage as it does now.

I know that my fine strands split easily. So I would like to learn to self trim. I have gone all year with no direct heat and I got a good trim in July. I need another one pretty bad.

Good Post IDareT'sHair! I wold like to be a complete DIY'er. I need to learn how to do my own relaxer, years ago when I use to try to do it myself I would always end up underprocessed in some areas:look:. So 2010 I'm doing everything by myself. My hair thrives when it's left in my own care:yep:

Not sure if you've done this before, but I get bone straight, silky hair each time.

I forgot the name, but I section in small sections, flatiron slow down my hair, then use either my straightening brush or comb to do a second pass. Just that extra step has made my flatironed hair flawless.
(I have the brush by Aveda and it never pulls my hair while passing)

Perfect stretching my relaxer by knowing what products to use, how to keep the protein-moisture balance on point, playing around with hairstyles, and keeping up with my detangling sessions.

I also need to know my official hair regimen.

The only thing I need 2 know is how to get to APL by 12-31-09! 1 inch left and it is taking forever!! :wallbash:

I need to learn to stop buying stuff without being forced into it by brokeness. I don't buy everything, because I know what ingredients my hair likes, but buying everything with those ingredients is not much better. :nono:

I need to learn how to stop combing my hair. Even when I bun in the morning, I have to comb my hair and then bun it up. I don't even know when I fell into the habit of combing my hair every morning. My mom never combs her hair, so I know I didn't learn it from her. And too much combing makes my scalp sore...yet I still. can't. stop. combing. :wallbash:

I need to learn to flat-iron my hair. I've never done it, and I'm kind of scared to because of the heat. But I've always secretly wanted to. I just need to go out, get a nice, safe flatiron, some good heat protectant, and watch youtube/stalk fotkis until I know what I think I know what I'm doing. And then I need to actually do it. :yep:
