If ONLY All Sista's Knew About This Site

This is a good topic...I haven't read all the posts so I'm not sure what was previously discussed. But I too feel the same way and I love to share this site with others so they can benefit from it and also to promote the creators of this site and continue to give them business so they can stay around for a long, long time. BUT, unfortunately I notice that literally NONE of the friends that I have referred to this site have taken it seriously or paid the price. It upsets me because they want nice hair and are quick to call me for tips and help, but you don't want to take the time to educate yourself as I have done. Maybe Im being a bit harsh, but I love to learn and I love to invest in myself in all aspects...so for less then $10 a year i would jump at a forum like this and take advantage of all the pointers. And in answer to the topic title....the streets would be filled with a sea of healthy, natural and relaxed, long, medium, or short haired women of all ethnicities all over the world. lol. No longer would "healthy hair" have to be a myth or a super expensive unattainable goal for the average everyday woman. Well that's my two cents! :)

Trust me, if women really want to find out how to grow their own hair long and healthy or about anything else to do with hair, they'll google it. Ladies who really want that info seek it and when they do, they find it just like we all at LHCF did. No need to go out trying to force information on people because if they aren't really looking for that information or are not interested in putting all the effort in to grow their hair long and healthy, they won't put it to good use anyway and you would have wasted time and money printing those cards. Only a few are truly seeking that info and fewer still will actually put the info into practice.

When I was looking for answers for my hair and how to care for my hair I never googled anything. And it was a stranger who told me about LHCF and that is how I found out about it.

Well let's put it this way, it can go either way...and no way is wrong or right. But my pet peeve is when a woman wants all the answers but once they are tuned into LHCF they still don't take advantage of the opportunity and resources.

If you had googled it ( or did an internet search for it I should say), you would have found your answers but it's good that someone told you about it. Did you ask for info about haircare or did someone just come up to you and say that you should visit LHCF?

I agree.

I used to want to tell people about this site but then people didnt believe me and didnt think the techniques would work. I figured if they really needed help they would look for it.

What were your search words? It comes up 1st even on general hair topics. When I look up almost anything hair related, LHCF is almost always on the 1st page (but I mostly use Yahoo so that might make a diff).

I never searched the internet. I don't think many people search the internet when they are trying to find the best way to care for their hair. They normally try things at random, take advice from family/friends, or just listen to their hair stylist.

Honestly, I don't think most people consider the internet when dealing with their hair. I don't think searching the internet crosses people's minds and I have a feeling many people on LHCF found this site from others telling them or from others who may have mentioned it on other sites. The person and I was talking about hair growth and about my slow growth and she mentioned this site. I lurked through it for 2-3 years before subscribing. She also found out about it because someone told her not because she searched the net.

I don't think tripping across a site that talks about hair or black hair care would give people their answers. Many of the answers doesn't apply so even within a site you are still searching for answers and solutions.

Tigget75 I'm sorry this thread is trying to go down hill...if it gets to out of hand Allandra will close up shop! Sorry sometimes folks can't keep the discussion mature!
I haven't read one immature post to this thread. The ladies have raised LEGITIMATE concerns about having someone distribute "Got LHCF?" Cards all over the city.

Exactly, that is the point I was trying to make. Whether you look for info on the net, or ask friends or family or strangers, once you are actively seeking the info, you'll find it. You will get the answers you are looking for. I guess I was just lucky then, I googled what I wanted and LHCF was one of the results that came back.

I just posted a friendly PSA on FB along with a link to LHCF....

ETA, I started doing searches on lacefront wigs, lol, and that led me to BHM, and BHM led me here.

I completely agree with OP.

I do mention the site to black women but many feel they already know what to do with their hair and who am I to tell them the right ways to get healthy hair. Lol like that will stop me

I guess when you genuinely care for people nothing will stop you from telling them things for their own good no matter how many walls you face.

Yes, when I joined here, I wasn't even looking for LHCF. I started with Cathy Howses book, then I went on a mad dash on the internet looking for tips to grow AA hair....of course this led me here.

If you seek, ye shall find. :yep:

In the beginning I used to tell people about this site because I was learning (and still am) so much from it. I was lucky enough tho have heard about it from my best friend. So I used to try to share it with others, but most people were like...whatever. Then I stopped talking about it. People who see my hair now are like :shocked::shocked::shocked: when I finally let my hair down from the everyday bun that I wear because I learned about protective styling from this site.
I no longer share the site with folks because they aren't interested because it takes work and most people are lazy and want a quick fix. Let's face it, it takes a while before you filter all of the information on this site and find what works, and what works FOR YOU and most folks just don't want to take that much time. But I am so very grateful for this site. My best girl and I know about it, and we have learned so much so I usually don't bother to share the information anymore. You can lead a horse to water (and Lord knows I have tried with quite a few) but you sure can't make her drink!! Even if she has see through hair.:nono::nono::nono:

OP I like your idea but truthfully, I think people just won't listen.

IMO most black women are convinced their hair won't grow/can't be healthy and it's almost impossible to make them change their mind.

Even the ones who witnessed your hair journey don't want to believe they can EVER achieve the same results. They'd tell you that:

1.You must be mixed because it's just IMPOSSIBLE for a black woman to have long hair without the genetic contribution of another race.

2.If you're not mixed then you must have found a miracle product that makes your hair grow...

3.If not, then you're one of those extremely fortunate (and rare) black woman who CAN grow hair...

I've heard the most ridiculous answers:

-Well you don't know all your ancestors so maybe you are mixed and don't know about it...

-My hair is totally different than yours, you have "good" kinky hair mine is just... nappy, nasty and it won't grow..

- Every race has something good that others don't: other women have "good hair" and we have big butts...

I've been trying to talk about a few techniques, products and instruments but nobody would listen :wallbash: or they'd let me talk for 15 mn straight and respond that "it can't work for them" or "it's too much work, they don't have time" or look at me silently and /or quickly change the subject.

Every time this happens I'm thinking:

Then WHY are you complaining ALL THE TIME if you WON'T do anything about it, not even TRY a different method just long enough to see if it makes a little difference??!!!:perplexed:nono::blush:

Some people even get upset because they think you're implying they're ignorant, stupid or lazy.

They see short/unhealthy hair on most BW and think it's just the way it is. Then if you don't fit the norm and try and tell'em why it is so, they'll assume you're making fun of them, that you have a God given gift which made you arrogant...

So really, unless I meet someone who shows a real interest and who's willing to educate herself and put time into it, I just don't bother anymore.

Anyway I'm french-speaking and so are most of my black/african friends so a lot of them wouldn't be able to understand much of what's going on here :spinning:

and even if I tell them differently I know the rest of them would be like:

LHCF ? Oh it must be a website for those very lucky black women who can actually grow long hair...

God helps those who help themselves.

If only all Sistas knew about this site and proper haircare we wouldn't have to make these asians so rich.

My mom and I was talking bout how black woman have really got this market for haircare sewed up. By that i mean we spend billions of dollars on hair products just to reach a desired look. I am included in that, I invest so much money, to the point I even have ppl contributing to my addiction of haircare:lachen:

I was in Kim's Beauty Supply and over heard this caucasion woman going off on the manager. She was cussing, ranting and raving about they gave her the wrong weave. I was like wait a minute, I had to take a double look at this :perplexed.....White woman dun went off. I was cracking up, saying to myself she sound like me, if my weave ain't right. Anyway apparently she had some kind of accident and lost all of her hair, I ain't eva seen a white persons hair look like that. What was killin about it is, she had the track package in her hand and some tracks glued in her head, trying to get an exchange...too funny y'all

But seriously, I was thinking yesterday I want to print up some LHCF cards :giveheart:that I can hand out to women when I see them in the store. I just don't want anyone to get offended if I hand them one. I see plenty of sistah's, white, and bi-racial. etc in need of some refuge. I was one of them, but I just so happen to stumble across this site through prayer.

Okay I think I left the wrong impression. I'm not gonna be just walking around handing out cards to ppl I "assume" have jacked up hair. From the many times I have visited stores that carry hair products a lot of ladies sometimes openly discuss hair. I would never just rudely directly or indirectly give someone an impression that their hair is a mess. But anyhooo I still think I will do this. Just to help those that are open to it.

Even if ALL sista's knew about this site, many of them will not utilize it. Speaking from experience. I've told quite a few people about this site and they want to continue down the path of wearing weaves and refusing to take care of their hair. Darn shame.

Yeah I told my friend about this site because she came to me asking for advice. So I gave her the link to this site and even mentioned that you don't have to pay to read the information just to post, and if she had any questions I would ask for her.

So she poked around I guess for a few hours and when asked a few weeks later she gave me all these excuses as to why she hasn't be utilizing the site.

A few years later I see her again and she comments on how silky my hair is and asks what I do to it...:wallbash: I said fine and I actually told her how I shampoo, deep condition, roller set for an hour and use saran wrap it again for 15 mins and you would have thought I told her that I was the second coming of Christ.

I'm rambling, but yeah people don't care and some want to wallow in their current hair state.
