Dancin' on sunshine!
I don't have a penis am not a LHCF hair guru but I'd still like some answers. Yes, I DID do a search but didn't really find anything worthwhile.

I have been doing rollersets at home and my hair comes out dry. It's not as silky as the salon. Is there a specific product I should use? Each section is throughly saturated, and I pull it as taut as I can without giving myself a headache. I have a Gold N' Hot table top dryer since my husband "STILL" hasn't gotten me my PIBBS 514 yet!  :nono:

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. :yep:

I wanna know too. I'm under the dryer as we speak. They come out a little dry sometimes. But I put castor oil on my wet hair and they came out soft. But I would like to know another alternative.

What do you mean you don't have a penis, lol.

Lottabody will silken them out. The kind you dilute. It's great. Whenever I don't use it my sets come out poofier and less straight and silky.

I use alternating: lacio lacio, salerm treatment for ends only one pump of it for whole head, emergencia leave in for humidity green bottle, una bomba leave in and they all give me great shine, don't use too much though, and it may be the dryer, I finally went a bought a salon hooded dryer and now my sets are coming out shining like flawless diamonds I use to use the tabletop dryers and sometimes they just don't give as much shine all the time. and don't pull the hair too taut don't want to cause any breakage.

but with the above conditioners I listed my sets always come out soft and shiny. and only apply a nickel or quarter size for the hair.

oh I use to use john frieda heat serum with neutrogena silk touch leave in, they work nice combined together as well.

Hi Ladies:

Okay...I roller set all the time and here is what I do!

1. I Always add castor oil to my final conditioner.
2. I add castor oil to my water spray bottle and spray my hair as I'm roller setting.
3. I use Lacio...love this stuff! :yep:
4. I use Neutrogena Triple moisture.
5. I use CERAMIC magnetic rollers...love, love love these rollers! :yep: They create shinier curls with less frizz.
6. I also use Dudley setting lotion but I'm sure Lottabody setting lotion works just as well.

I must say I'm always pleased with my roller sets after using these products!

Hope this helps! :)

Ann

Well...I'm not an expert yet..still working out some kinks. (pun intended )
But I do agree with using the old school lottabody that you have to dilute. My hair dries kind of crunchy at first, but after taking out the rollers and finger combing, it gets really silky and shiny. :yep: A better dryer could help, but I use the tabletop Gold n Hot, and mine come out fine, so maybe it's something else.

But do you think you could what you do to rollerset? Like, what's your process, what's your method, what products do you use, etc?

Are you using any kind of setting lotion? I use Aveda's Smooth Infusion style prep smoother with a little vatika oil & Sabino's Moisture Block.

It helps to have your hair still wet while you're rolling your hair, doesn't have to be sopping wet, just wet enough that the hair stays smooth.

Occasionally, you have to clarify too, if it's possible you have a lot of product build up on your hair. Aveda's Damage Remedy line is great, if you need a recommendation for a good shampoo & conditioner.

I used to use Fantasia IC Liquid Mousse after deep conditioning. It always came out full, shiny and soft. Taliah Waajid Mist Bodifier leaves my hair soft as well. I sometimes spray Apohgee Green Tea and Keratin Reconstructor with it. Great results as well.

I squeeze about a quarter size of serum in my spray bottle (a serum/water solution) ....:yep: Works like a charm!!! I think the salons do it too.....we just don't see it

I used Chi on my last set I was like:woot: YESYESYES!!!! I blew out the roots only and brush the length a little with the warm brush!!! I was in love!!

ETA..I've used setting lotions but they make my hair crunchy and with ripples at times

I use Lacio Lacio and some type of serum (Chi Silk Infusion or Fantasia IC) and my hair comes out shiny and soft

My hair is always silky from rollersetting and I've found that less is more in my case. Yesterday I washed and conditioned with Mizani Thermasmooth shampoo and conditioner, applied a bit (just a tiny bit) of Kerastase Slim and I use a combination of the big blue rollers, gray and purple, spraying with my spray bottle where I have water and a vial of Alfaparf semi di lino oil(very diluted).Under the dryer for 1 hour and then I flat iron the roots only using steps 3 and 4 of the Mizani Thermasmooth system.

There was guy in this section of LHCF and he got a gabillion responses. Meanwhile, some women asking the same question, got views but no responses. :lachen:I need to get over my fear of this part of LHCF. I am working on it. :yep:

I am scared of Lottabody. When my stylist used to use it for my spiral sets a lot of hair would come out. I will give it a try. Actually, I am going to give everything a try and when my husband gets upset tell him I had to experiment. :look:

I wash my hair with Nexxus Botanoil. Condition with Aphoghee 2 Min./Humectress, wash it out after an hour or so. Then I rinse, get the tangles out, spray with my diluted Infusium 23, apply a few dots of castor oil and start rollersetting. I know my process is wack but I never know what else to buy. I am going to buy whatever anyone recommended in this thread though. :look: I was doing good as a reformed PJ. Oh well for that! :lachen:

I have this problem occasionally too. I used the aphogee green tea and keratin last week and had great results. I had used it before but I don't think I was using enough.

If that's the kind of hair wackness produces, please let my routine be wack! :lachen:

I think that leave ins with silk, silicone or both are what you're after. I stopped using any Lottabody, no matter how diluted. It made my hair hard. I just used a lot of plain water.

I bet those ceramic rollers work great. But I willing to say different product work for different people. A creamy leave in with a serum and a dab of oil on the ends worked for me. Others like the setting lotion and oil. I also feel the dryer is a definite factor. I used a bonnet ion dryer which gave me a silky shinny set. My hose broke and I have been using my sisters old gold n hot bonnet which gives me a dry puffy set. If my husband doesnt get me that salon dryer for Christmas I am ordering it for myself for my birthday.

I know, I remember that foolishness. I figured that's what you were talking about....it just made me chuckle to ask.

I'm not sure why you're scared of this section....nothing goes on over here, it's the other parts that get down right scary.:spinning:

Now where is that dude when you need him....he would've had 45 pages of responses for you by now:lachen:.

I'm a little unconventional with my product here, but mine come out silky (as long as I don't over do it) with using NTM Leave in, sealing with SheaButter and then using Black and Sassy Wrap Creme.

I use a mixture of water and a few drops of castor oil and just before I set the hair I spray it with my Ojon leave in. This works very well for me.

One absolutely fundamental thing is you must must ensure that your hair is completely dry otherwise the curls of course won't hold and it just ruins the look. I'm realising now as my hair is getting longer I have to sit under the dryer longer and I don't like the heat too high. :ohwell:

Girl don't be scared of Lotta Body....as long as it is diluted properly, you will not have any problems..I don't got for the tight curls look..I do rollerwraps...I normally use Lottabody in the warmer months (humidity is h*** on the hair in TX) but as it gets cooler I like Lacio Lacio or just Aphogee Pro-Vitamin...

My hair is crazy fine so rollersetting is the only way I style my hair...

Girl, you are a superstar here so your posts alwys get responses and no static. I see some people are like the Crips and Bloods in here. I just try to keep my e-eyes straight ahead and make no eye contact. :lachen:Girl, if I was that dude, I'd have over 2,000 responses, PMS, e-mail addresses, cell phones, work numbers, social security numbers, et cetera. I'm a fool! :lachen:

Dang! I know ya'll be rollersetting. Are there any more responses?

I ain't got no peen. :look: :lachen:

I'm about to give you the unpopular opinion. A good leave in with great slip like rusk sensories and the hated small tooth rat tail comb the Dominicans use. I get the best roller sets. I discovered this 6 weeks ago. Please be gentle and make sure your hair has been fully detangled and a leave in with slip is key.

What ratio of Lottabody to water are you all using?

I can't remember the instructions right off hand but I use the ratio for the color-treated hair - I think its 2 parts lottabody 3 parts water....

Every now and then I use the ratio for normal hair which is a little less water...

HTH

if your willing to sleep in them and let them air dry that will be the trick. then go under the dryer for a bout 10 minutes and it will be bangin trust me.........
