Ladies,

I have a question for you please. How often can you use an egg(s) for protein tx? I'm so loving the effects it plays in my hair that I want to do it as often as possible.

I do it when I feel my hair needs it. Protein is probably one thing I don't set a schedule to. Eggs are a natural protein and it's not something I would want to put on my hair too frequently unless it needed major repair.

As it is, I think it would throw my moisture/protein balance off if I did it once a week. That may then require me to increase DCs, hot oil treatments etc (and that means more time spent on my hair). However, everybody's hair is different.

I think twice a month for ME. Its very gentle though so I dont think it could hurt. Its the best protein for me, because my hair cant take a hardcore protein. This is just right for my hair. Just listen to your hair needs.hth

So there’s 6 grams of protein in one egg, 3 for the white part of the egg and 3 for the yolk.
I thought it was much more, just googled to see.

To answer the main question:

It would depend on how your hair responds to weekly protein treatments, everyone’s hair is different. For myself, I use eggs every other month as natural protein treatment, I always mix it with a moisturizing conditioner and maybe a bit oil. Also just too add, you don’t have to wait until your hair is breaking in order to use protein, you can use it as a preventive measure, it’s what I do and my hair thanks me for it.

I do an egg treatment every week too. I'll alternate it with Cassia every 3 to 4 weeks sometimes.

I mix 1 egg, 1 tablespoon of plain yogurt, and 1 tablespoon of EVOO and use that mix as my protein treatment once a week. After I wash that out I do a moisturizing DC with steam.

Thanks to the ladies that have responded. I did another egg tx this weekend (2nd consecutive week) mixed w/ one of my cheapies and a cap full or two of olive oil and honey. Let's just say I am so in love w/ the results!!!

I tell you, the breakage has absolutely ceased. I followed up w/ a moisturizing conditioner, applied my leave-in, braided it up. I took it down this morning and it was like buttah baby!!!

To me this is so much better than the hardcore Aphogee and just as effective and my hair is thanking me for it. If you're a skeptic, don't be. The egg tx is the bomb!!!

I'm going to try this this weekend. I was going to buy some aphogee or something. But I already have all these ingredients so might as well.

I use eggs every week or every other week. I baggy my hair and moisturize it at least twice a day and the eggs help to balance out my hair. I tried the aphogee 2 step treatment and it was just too much for my hair.

I started using the egg treatment because the hardcore Aphogee was jacking my hair up!

Funny you would mention that the Aphogee was jacking your hair up. My stylist, who is licensed btw said that she wouldn't put that mess on a dog. She absolutely hates it and strongly recommends against it and she is old skool.

I find the egg is not as harsh as the Aphogee but as effective and is definitely a staple for me!

I agree; I don't have a regular schedule of using egg protein, but I use it whenever I feel like my hair needs it. Whenever I do a egg treatment I need to wash my hair thoroughly. It feels sort of dry after rinsing, so I condition and moisturize more than I normally do (usually with a hair mayo and then shea butter). I don't think I would want to do this process once a week, but I aim for once a month.

I don't know about anyone else, but does your hair feel so much FULLER after doing an egg treatment? I usually wear my hair in braidouts or WnG but I will treat myself to straight hair whenever I use egg protein, and the volume of my hair is much much more noticeable. I love it! :love4:
