Emmm I would say take the opportunity to learn to do your own braids. It will only cost you the hair!! Thats what I do.
Stylist were just getting too expensive!!

I'm terrible at braiding with hair  I've tried..she's not even a stylist rather a "kitchen beautician":lachen:

I would not pay $180 for that style. The braids are not the small IMO.
I would have to say that this is all relative to your location. In Northern NJ/NY Metro area, you can get a style like this for way cheaper.
So I guess it would depend on the price for braids in your area, how long your hair is and how long it would it take to do the braids in order to decide whether it is worth it.

Personally I wouldn't pay that but it does sound standard compare to braid shops

i think the pics are beautiful but I guess it depends on where you are because I know here in Houston, some charge $50-$100 for that. Those are just bigger freestyle braids with heavier curly hair. For me to pay 180, the braids would need to be braided all the way to the end, from root to tip.

$180. How long will it take for her to do it? And does she work in a salon?
If she's in a salon it makes sense to her because $180 = $10/hour for 18 hours or $18/hour for 10 hours. If she's doing it at home, not so much. :nono:

How much would I pay? Only the price of the hair cuz I've had to learn to do my own too

I second the learn to do your own. There are some instructional dvd's out there, and you tube videos. You could also trying posting an ad on craigslist stating you want your hair braided and asking people to contact you. However, if your friend does it, you do have an idea of how good her work is. Heck, ask her to teach you how to braid.

I do braids and i charge about 100-120(depending on the length of the person's hair) for a style like that. The braids are not that small,so it wouldn't take as long to do as it would for some micro braids. That's too much, imo.

You can check my journals in my fotki if you want to learn how. Oh go to Growafrohairlong.com
Practice makes perfect!!

What brand of hair is that? I really like those. And what's the name of the style?

I have a lady who charges $80 in Texas. I go to her house. Plus I pay $20 for the hair. I wouldn't pay 180 for any hair style. Find some cheap braiders on craigslist, they might not have their own salon, but I find them to be legit and much, much cheaper..

I pay about that much for smaller individuals, but I go to a braid shop. Its not African but they're awesome. I would not pay 180 for that, but for other reasons than just the price. They do look really neat though

I paid $250 including hair when I got micro braids done at a salon. I've done a few fam/friends hair for $75-$100 w/ hair included in the price. I think if you are going to pay full price for micros ($180-$250) and Im assuming buy your own hair, you should just go to a salon and get it professionally done. Family, friends, kitchenticians are for discounts!

ETA: $250 is what I paid when micro braids were VERY popular years ago and they were TINY and took 16 hours with two ladies on my head. They should be much cheaper to get done these days, especially for those in the pic which are considerably larger than mine...you sure your friend ain't trying to get over on you girl? Is this what she charges everyone?

I would not pay more than $80 for those. I have actually had waist length small box plaits done and they looked professional and were only $40 but I gave her a $20 tip for all of her hard work.

Umm... May I ask what city you live in? Cuz, those are HOT! for $40?! What type of hair was used? And are the ends loose?

Tallahassee, Fl...... I used regular kanekelon hair ($2 per pack x6 i think) ... It took about 23 hours over the course of 2 days (I had to work) The hair was braided as far down as possible and I did not cut it so that it would have a natural look

I do my own braids.

I charge friends about £10 (they get the hair)
I charge strangers £30 (they get the hair).

I advise them to learn themselves...business has been quiet as of late lol

Seriously that is too much money for braids. Is the braider supplying the hair? Does she supply you with champagne and canapes?

The braids are not that small so it shouldn't take longer than about 6 hours.

People will take advantage if you don't really know the pricing of hairstyles in your area. Haggle or go to someone else.

I kept them in for a little over 2 months. I missed my hair and the new growth was kicking in...

I have 3 hair braiders.... the african I go 2 would charge 120 for those... My homegirl would charge probably 80-100 for those... and My sister does my hair like that for free.. if she charges she'd charge 60 to 80..I think in the shop .. they'd prolly be about that price. I say shop around for the best price or like others have suggested, you can learn on ya own.

wow only 40 for those? they are really nice. i plan on braiding my hair like that this week.

I would not pay $180 for those braids at all. I am from New York so when I was about 18 I was introduce to Harlem and never paid over $100 for my micro/small box braids again. But does the $180 include the hair too?

Theses braids below cost me $100 hair included. And that is human hair.
