I'm waiting to blowdry my hair, but I'm not sure which products to use. I want to use Redken Smooth Down and Heat Glide. The Smooth Down has disodium edta as an ingredient, not exactly sodium chloride, but I don't want to take any chances. Does anyone know if this is okay?

Not sure you need to use any product on your first blowdry...was this after a 4-day leave-in BKT? Just curious. I put nothing on my hair after my first treatment and subsequent poo and con. Just blew-dry and finger-combed. Mainly wanted to see what my hair would feel like with nothing on it but BKT. Good luck, whatever you do.

I used the Softliss. So, I've done the entire treatment and am just waiting to style my hair.

Chameleonchick, are you a BKTer?

That looks fine to me. I actually don't obsess about the sodium thing and my BKT holds up just fine. Most of the products in my reggie have sodium something, but haven't noticed a sodium chloride

I'm with Marie. I don't use anything else. Make sure you just don't use stuff out of habit... when I first do a BKT... it's good to go... no other products.

I don't know exactly what I was expecting, but it's not what I expected. I'm natural, so it's more like being natural with type 3 hair. I would still have to use a flat iron to get it straight, which I am reluctant to do, because I try to stay away from heat as much as possible. I only flatironed each section 3 or 4 times. Maybe if I had gone over each section 5 or 6 times, it would have come out straighter. It was pretty straight after baking the treatment in, but after washing it looks pretty much the same as always, except easier to manage with a looser curl pattern.

From what I've read, your results are typical for natural hair. Most BKT sites advise those with a tight curl pattern to relax/texturize first, if they want a straighter result. However, I believe Fabulosity is about 7-8 months post relaxer/transitioning and she uses aBKT with 2% formaldehyde, so her unrelaxed treated hair comes out looking like she texlaxed 80% straight.

My guess would be to used a BKT with formaldehyde/aldehyde for that effect. Softliss on natural hair will only loosen your curl pattern and assist with manageability/shine. HTH.
