Does it matter what brand/type of blowdryer you use?

I plan on straightening my hair in December (and wear straight styles after I reach my hair goal). Should I upgrade?

Yes, it matters, especially if you plan to do it often. You should use something high quality (ie ionic, etc).

Yes it does matter! Blowdryers were always a disaster for me (crispy fried broken off hair) until i got my Wahl 1800 watt ionic hairdryer. It has 5 heat settings and variable speed (i can get the same result on lower heat) PLUS ionic switch which really makes a difference. My hair is smooother and more shiny when dry.

If you are going to blow dry regularly, still use a heat protectant and try and leave a little moisture in you hair, let it airdry the rest of the way. Good luck!

I agree...It makes a big difference. I have the FHI 1800 and it leaves my hair feeling so soft and moist. For some reason it blew out on me and i bought a cheap ceramic, ionic blow-dryer and my hair def felt different (not burnt or anything, just not as soft)

Yeah, gotta get something good. I think one reason why we traditionally associate blow dryers with damaged hair is because the technology then was not nearly as advanced as it is now and it makes a difference in the health of your hair.

I have a Rusk HyperIonic and I love that dryer to pieces. FHI makes a good dryer as does Solano and Elchim. Get something ionic/tourmaline and get the best quality you can afford. Check out Folica and amazon for reviews to help get you started. With a quality dryer, you can use less heat and still dry your hair faster without having dry crispy hair.

I really do think that heat appliances matter. I have an FHI 2000 professional dryer. and an FHI runway. I say - spend the money. You won't spend anymore.

Does your FHI nano have a comb attachment? I need a comb! Do any of the FHI's have a comb I don't think they do.

I’m also interested to know what hairdryers everyone is using as I was thinking of purchasing either a T3 Tourmaline Evolution Ionic or a FHI Nano Salon Pro 2000 hairdryer and wondered if anyone has used both or the T3, if so, I would very much appreciate a review please Also I have a question if I may, does anyone use a leave-in conditioner (like Oyin Honey-Hemp Conditioner) , in addition to a heat protector prior to blowdrying or is it better just to use a heat protector I'm a little confused ?

I feel you, I definitely need to upgrade. I need the FHI Runway and I am looking into the FHI Salon Pro Dryer. That dryer has some great reviews on Amazon. I'm talking about 5 stars.

co-signing on this. before this site, i thought expensive and quality flat irons were $30. i'd constantly have to replace my flat iron and blow dryer because either the fan broke, or something else. i decided to invest in FHI platform (couldnt find the runway for less than $300 and everywhere else was sold out) and the FHI salon pro. and i absolutely love them.

to the poster asking about leave ins and heat protectors, i still use a leave in conditioner, and add FHI hot sauce (heat protector) and chi silk infusion, and my hair is soo soft, silky, bouncy, and shiny afterwards without even having to flat iron. i'd completely forgotten how great they were since i've been wet bunning and air drying for the last few months.

and mine didnt come with a comb attachment it came with a diffuser, i bought a cheap universal comb attachment from the beauty supply store for $5, and it fit fine, and works great.

PS - not saying that I don't believe ya'll because I do. I'm just trying to reason this out and make sure its really worth the money so I dont make an impulse by on folica...tonight.

Then I finally got an ionic dryer (an Andis was the first one I had) and I realized what everyone was talking about. I never believed that my hair would feel moisturized from blowdrying. It blew my mind

When I'm straightening, a brush attachment works better than a comb attachment for me because my hair is fine and a comb doesn't give me enough grip/tension. I use a hot air brush. I recently bought this Remington T Studio one (tourmaline, ionic, all that jazz) at Target and I it! (before that I had a Revlon one that was also ionic and worked well)

IMO , handheld dryers don't fit into the traditional "black hair care" bubble. Many of us are used to the ol school ones that would usually leave your hair crispy fried. Because of that, many of us are reluctant to explore what the new ones have to offer. We are so used to them being one of our many hair "villians" that we are resistant to learing any thing new. The idea that they might not be as bad as we thought they were and that maybe some of our techniques in conjuction with poor technology were to blame is the reason why you don't hear it often here. Go to any other "white" hair forums and you can find tons of info.

Well I have a Gold N Hot..

& um, I blow dry on cool. But when I do blow dry with heat, it gets straight as heck all right, but its generally not as soft as the FHI the lady at the salon uses. Plus her blow dryer gets my hair even straighter. It also lacks body & sucks up moisture.

i want a FHI Nano Salon Pro 2000 hair dryer so i'm going to start saving up.
i have a wahl hair dryer and it does blow out my hair good but it leaves it dry and crispy and i want to be able to do a blow out with a blow dryer because i love the thickness you get straightening your hair via blows outs give than using a flat iron

Just blew out my roots at 8 weeks post with my brand new FHI Nano 1800 and I LOOOOOOOVVVVVVEEEEE IT! I didn't have to hold it on my roots long at all and it's so straight, soft and moisturized. I'm hoping to be able to stretch an additional month. So worth the money, which I shouldn't be surprised, I've had my FHI Platform for almost 4 years and I also love it. A more budget friendly flat iron that I love is my Jilbere Porcelain series from Sally's and I see they make a blow dryer as well. I wonder how good it is, but that's a whole different thread....I'm rambling. But yes, it matters. I would make sure the dryer has ceramic/tourmaline technology.

Girl, this is a $35 miracle I got at my neighborhood Target. I've been singing the praises of the hot air brush all by myself for a long time now. I remember I started a thread about 5 years ago asking if anyone had used one and people weren't too encouraging. I think it looks too dangerous, like a Revostyler or something, and it just scares people off It's just like blowdrying with a separate brush, only not as complicated
I've noticed more showing up at stores lately -- they used to be sort of scarce at stores I went to. Now they've moved up and gotten all ionic and ceramic and so on. This Remington hot air brush has tourmaline and ions and whatnot, and my hair feels lovely after using it. Soft and moisturized I haven't been doing a good job of keeping a central photo album lately because I frequent 2 hair boards (I'm over at HT as well), so I'll have to put some up over here. It really does a nice job and is way easier and faster than using a separate brush.
