Not washing or untangling for 3 weeks.

The smaller clump was a mild detangling process with my fingers on dry hair before washing. Just pulling out the shedded hair really.
The big clump was the result of detangling in the shower (of course now dry)

EVERYTIME this happens I swear I'm going bald and that I'm at terminal length....

Your curls are beautiful. Is this normal? I wouldn't get worked up about the hair lost b/c you didn't wash or comb for three weeks. Do you have a fotki - I want to see your hair....

Sorry DTG,

I don't have a Fotki :(
I have this much hair lost quite a bit if I don't detangle after 2-3 weeks.
Since I haven't been washing every week as I used to I don't remember how much I lose after 1 week. If I get around to caring for my hair this weekend, I'll post an update...

After 3 weeks? Chile please! In three weeks, you're expected to lose about 2,100 hairs so that's nothing to write home about.

Dang, girl. I see you whipped out the measuring tape and had the water bottle for size comparison. Ya'll don't play!

To the OP: The pic where the ball of shed was in your hand looked a bit scary. But considering you've neglected to detangle and wash for 3 weeks, I think it's nothing to be too worried about, as far as the amount you've lost...

However, waiting that long to detangle and not washing is a big no-no IMHO. Hair that has shed but hasn't been pulled out will tangle with hairs that aren't ready to shed and when you struggle through the knots, you may end up taking more hair out than usual...at least that's what I experience...:ohwell:

I don't think it's anything to worry about. I shed like a freakin' maniac and I still have a head full of thick, dense hair. :ohwell:

That's how much hair I lose after 3 days. That's totally fine for 3 weeks.

I agree with them. I wouldn't be worried. I can loose nearly that amount on just a regular shampoo day. And I'm not going bald. I suspect you aren't either.

Shoot I loose almost that much after a week in twists or some other protective style. I agree with Ivey you should try to up your cowashing to minimzed knotting if you are wearing your hair out. If you are doing protective styles with extenstion like braids or twists then going 3 weeks is okay.

No worries especially after 3 weeks. That hair ball is typical for me when I detangle after wearing twists for 10-14 days then wearing the twist-out for another 5-7 days.

I feel soo much better. I lost a little less than that on Saturday after 3 weeks of wetbunning w/o detangling. I wondered if that was really bad or not...thanks OP for this thread. *breathes a sigh of relief*

That's not much hair for me. I lose that much in a couple of weeks of not really detangling.
If you haven't seen any thinning on your head, then I wouldn't worry.

After 3 weeks?? Now you know you came in here to brag!:grin: That is absolutely nothing being that you had not detangled for 3 weeks. Perhaps I should have read the entire thread. Maybe you were joking!! :spinning:

Lynn did you straighten your own hair? If so, how long did it take? Gonna send you a pm in case you don't check back with this thread.

To fyb87- Girl, I'm for REAL (you know how alarmist-like we can be up in here! Act like you know lol), I've always been nervous about this but now, I'm aaaaaaaaaall better :yep:

To Br*nzeb - I think having perspective is key. Based on the responses, I think I've got a better sense of what is 'normal.' I'm breathing right witcha. I'm going to keep this ball for reference now (sounds gross or maybe it IS gross?) I welcome anyone who wants to 'investigate' my shedded hairs after every detangling process....anyone? anyone? :look:

To Vonnie - My hair's in twists all day e'ryday so I don't worry about knots much.

Ivey14- I'm going to take that into consideration. It SEEMS as though I lose less hair when I detangle more often but as I mentioned earlier (or in another post), I'm just soooooooo lazy this year.

But you know, I think there's more hair up in there that can come out...:perplexed

Yeah L, give it up!!!!

Sure did and got really, really annoyed when I saw the weather forecast for rain too!

From shampoo/condition, blow-drying then straightening, it took about 4 hours (with breaks inbetween) :ohwell:.

Never got a chance to wear it loose but I did do a couple flat twist bun thingies, now it's in 2 big cornrows because wait for it................it's raining :lachen: Now it's really shrinky and poofy but not like a natural twist/braid out poofy.

Can't wait for the cooler, dryer weather to set in down here so I can actually wear it down and out.
