I voted other. I'm definitely not an expert and have only done it once. I planned on only using Softliss, but my hair ate it up, so I had to use some Global that I had around.

I preferred the Softliss because it didn't have the fumes Global had. It's important that I'm able to breathe and not feel like my nose is going to burn up, so just on that alone, Softliss has my vote.

When the Global was applied, the fumes were too much for me. Overall, I'm happy with the physical results of both.

i havent used another one but im natural and i voted soft-liss. I love my results. i flat ironed at 370 instead of 450 because i did one peice and it came out bone straight and it scarred me so i turned it down but i still had good results.

I've only tried OK Keratin Chocolate- it's not on the list. I liked it my hair came out really nice.

btw- softliss is really popular, you should add it to the list.

I have used both "other" and QOD Max. I prefered "other", which was the Chocolate OK Keratin Treatment. But I plan to buy Soft Liss ASAP. I am a natural and I BKT once a month. HTH :yep:

I didn't even realize there were so many options.

I was going to get Global, but now I guess I might try this Softliss.

I can't say that I have a favorite as I've only used Global 2%. I have the Softliss but won't use it til I come out of my personal HYH in March.

I really want to try the OK Keratin and the Rejuvenol :look:

global 4% was wayyyyyy too strong for me to do it again. I like the softliss...i had no issues with the smell at all.

I've only used QOD. I liked it. I can't vote that it's the best since I have no reference

Thank you ladies! I will try to add Softliss to the list, it seems to be a favorite. I have only used QOD Gold but it didn't really do much to my hair at all so I don't know if I would recommend it.

I've done the Softliss, and I'm doing Global 4% right now, I choose Global 4% hands down.

You have to use a tiny bit! I mean barely dampen your hair with it, I am not getting any fumes. It's the same as Softliss fume wise. My hair feels like silk..I am in  I'm half way through with the flat ironing. I'll use up my Softliss but I'm buying a jug of the Global  I'll use my Softliss right after a relaxer touch up.

The trick is to figure out how much is enough when you are doing the BKT. I put too much Softliss on the first time, I dang near smoked myself out the house! I learned after that!
I think Softliss is good for relaxed heads. I would use it after a fresh relaxer. While I have this 4 months of new growth, Global baby!

Can somebody please tell me what BKT is? I see everybody on here talking about it, but I don't know what it is. Sorry for the dumb question.

Global 2% had me all jacked up with those fumes; now it DOES get your hair straight and it's probably the best option for someone natural as opposed to the formeldahyde "free" products. Softliss doesn't through me for a loop with the fumes and I get nice results.

I'm a 3b/c and texlaxed. I just did a root touch up on my new growth with Softliss last night ( 13 weeks post going for 23 weeks) and it got my hair darn near straight and it isn't waving up in the humidity! I might try QOD Gold next. :)

I know I used waaaayyyyy tooooo much Global back in April! I was about to pass out from those fumes..lol. I think if I use a BKT with 2% or 4% I won't have to relax but I don't want to end up with issues later on down the road. Maybe, I'll try Rejuvenol in about 6 weeks. I'm out of Softliss so I can't wait to try something new!

Hmm... I'm glad I got some of that Global.. I'm almost 7 months out.. and I've only used softliss.. my hair is still silky and soft..I'm gonna get around to using the 50-11 that I've ordered around here... tomorrow is dreamhair keratin's turn.. it's 2%... I will save my Global for next year.. when it will really be tough since I'll be a year out from my relaxer.. I love that I've went 7 months without a texlax and my hair is not shedding too much, dry, or damaged.. folks can say what they want about BKT.. but I love it...

BKT is what's up! I still love it just like I did back in April..lol. :drunk: Fab, that's awesome you've gone 7 months without a Tex-lax!!! There's is hope for me yet! I'm scurred of the formeldahyde but I'm getting a BKT with a low percentage of it for my next root touch up in a few weeks, I need the real deal for my natural hair :yep:. I just won't SLAP in on too thick like I did with the 2% Global back in April and I'll purchase a fume extractor.

Please post pics of your results with the new keratin brand! :) I can't wait to see your results! :)

I promise you, I used such a small amount and my hair came out perfect and there were next to no fumes. I had zero discomfort.

I was amazed! I had the fans going and the reverse fan in the window to pull out the fumes, there was no smoke, no fumes, my son thought I was just doing a regular flat iron. That's how big a difference it makes.

I thought I was going to need the gas mask for the 4% but it was my mildest BKT treatment yet.

I'm offically a pro (for my own head that is) I got my method down pat!!

QOD Gold is concentrated, it takes 30% that other BKT solutions, so if you are not really careful with the application, it will make your hair feel dry and stiff.

I don't think they emphasis that fact enough for novices.

I tried QOD gold then Global 4%. QOD was ok. I was about to pass on the global and try softliss because of the fumes but once I learned that less is more Global is a BIG winner here!

My unrelaxed hair is my friend again, even now that I am working out. I was having a tough time caring for my hair but I can have the best of both worlds with the BKT/Global.

So less is more.......:lachen:
I tried the Global 4% and I love it. I can't wait to wash. I probably used too much this time about 2oz., but I wanted to make sure that every strand was covered. I am having a hard time with reversion and poofiness, so I redid mine after a week. I haven't had a relaxer since September 2008, so my hair is truly natural. I had a professional do my first BKT and it looked fabulous, but last week we had rain and POOF!!! AFRO City.........:wallbash:
My hair feels wonderful now. Thank you Sheba1 and Fab for your wonderful posts and tips showing exactly how to do this........

Carol,

After the 2nd BKT have you had any problems with reversion? I guess it's obvious that I hate frizz and poofiness (that's why I relaxed my naItural 3b/c after 9 years natural in 2007) when I wear it straight. I will try the 4% if works to keep the frizz at bay. :drunk:

Atlanta,

Do you have a technique you use to apply the treatment sparingly? :) I need all the help I can get with Global..lol.

Atlanta,

Do you have a technique you use to apply the treatment sparingly? :) I need all the help I can get with Global..lol.

I add 1/2 oz in a hair color bowl to start. Then I use a color application brush to apply to my hair. I separate my hair into 8 sections after I shampoo / dry (under the dryer for the first dry) I take a section down at a time, brush the BKT on close to the roots (lightly diping the brush into the solution).

Then I comb the solution through first with a medium and then with finer tooth comb to make sure I get it combed through all the way to then ends. I make sure the hair is slightly damp, not wet. When I'm finished with a section I twirl it up and pin it. This keeps it from drying out while I work on my other sections.

I add 1/2 oz or less solution to the bowl at a time so that I can gauge how much I'm using. I focus on my roots since my ends have had multiple BKTs

I prefer to put the solution on dry hair because then I can tell how much product I have put onto my hair by its level of dampness. I know some BKTer prefer putting it on damp hair, that doesn't work for me.

I always start off putting on too little product, so I can go back and add more if needed.

ETA: Then I take down one section at a time and blow it dry. Then I go through my whole head with the dryer. It seems to be less manipulation when I do it this way.
