My weird hair... (long but with pics)

I just came back again so I could look at your hair. It's just so pretty. Especially the first picture with all your shrinkage. Gosh, that's how I want my hair to look.

I agree with everyone else that your hair may just be thirsty. Baking soda can be super drying so I can see why it didn't really work for you. Have you tried any natural DC's? They would be cheaper considering how much hair you have. You could try a simple honey and olive oil pre-poo/DC and see how that works. If it does, then you may want to try the caramel treatment.
 
I would clarify with ACV, than do a moisturizing DC.

I had issues with my ends lately after coming out of cornrows and I was about to chop 2 inches if not 3 because they were dry as a brillo pad and used Neutrogena Triple Moisture Mask and made my hair very smooth . I could slip my fingers thru my hair which was really impossible prior the Mask. Thanks God, my ends were back to normal.

As for the ends, I would NOT trim but seperate the hair in six or seven section and do some search and destroy once a month or every two months ...(as necessary),until you're ends are how you want them to be. However, remember that having split ends is normal...so don't over do it.

Focus where you think the issue is. If you think its your ends than focus on your ends and moisurize with a water based leave in and seal with oil . One that I really like is Coconut oil. A lot of ladies are in L-O-V-E with coconut oil, avocado butter or castor oil. Try samples and see what works for you.

I love your pics. It just shows the many faces of our hair. If the splits are not affecting your everyday styling or over all look, then I wouldn't worry too much about them.
Your hair looks great.

What if you slathered your hair in conditioner (the ends at least) and wore a bun (covered with a plastic cap while at home, removed when out) once or twice a week, then washed it out! That wouldn't be much work and I can only imagine how beautiful all that hair will be if you add deep conditioning to your regimen!

My hair is no where near as long as yours but I know that when I comb it out dry it looks a lot like that.

See? I swear that I also thought my hair was "weird" too until I realized...it's 3c curly!!

I think you have curly hair and you are probably styling the curls out unintentionally. I think you would benefit greatly from the curly girl method from naturallycurly.com or Teri's site, biracialhair, that others have mentioned.

That's my lazy way of deep conditioning, :lol:. I leave in the conditioner and forget about it, sometimes until the next day. I think the problem is with the various conditioners I have been using - too many silicones, alcohol as a major ingredient, or other no-good chemical ingredients.
 
Your hair is simply gorgeous! I just had to tell you how beautiful and inspirational your hair is. You've been given great advice. Moisture usually helps in order to achieve great curl definition.

Wow! Your hair is gorgeous...bumping this thread bc my hair looks very similar to yours in the first two pics air dried with no product. I always thought I was a 4a bc of this, but people on the forum keep telling me I look like a 3b-3c mix. Maybe my hair is just a thirsty 3c? I dunno...interesting...

ETA: Nahhhh, ne'ermind! LOL. I just checked your album in your profile and I think the posters are dead on with you being a thirsty 3b. I still think I'm a thirsty 4a looking at your profile pics! :lol:

You say this is the longest your hair has ever been. Are you suffering excess tangling or anything bad from the splits you see? Because it doesn't look bad from the picture. If you've grown the longest hair you have with splits and they haven't caused you any problems, why worry about them? Maybe keep them from getting too out of control by doing S&D every month or so, but other than that, why stress?
 
This is very inspirational. Your hair fabulous! I don't think your ends look bad from your pic. I agree with what the other ladies say and gradually correct the problem so you can maintain your length.

And I totally agree - it's thirsty. :yep: I think that most AA hair tends to be thirsty when folks first find LHCF - it's a primary reason for issues with our hair.

Urm, have I said how gorgeous your hair is?

This is from 6 months ago - how does it look now? How are you feeling about it? I would suggest steam treatments if you still need moisture, but I suspect you can't sit still for that long. :lol: Have you tried the Caramel Treatment? Or salt in your conditioner? Either of those are good moisture boosters.

And I swear, leave those scissors alone!! :lol:
 
Your hair is beautiful Yamilee. I'd kill for you and LynnieB's hair (especially in her siggy) :drool:
