Tonight I did my first RS w/mesh rollers. I've tried the magnetic ones and failed. Well, for some reason I couldn't get my ends to lay flat on the roller as I tried to roll it. My hair was soaking wet and I kept a spray bottle with water just to rewet each section...still had a hard time. And my hair would not lay as smooth as I think it should no matter have tight I tried to roll it. BTW, I'm texlaxed. Any advice? I'll search the threads again, but I couldn't find anything about these particular issues. TIA

So are you saying you need tips on rollersetting with both magnetic and mesh rollers?

Either way, the last time I rollersetted with magnetic rollers was about 7 years ago and it didn't turn out well. I think if I were to try it now I would have better luck but since it took me one or two tries to master mesh rollers that's what I'm sticking with. :)

I guess my suggestion would be to use end papers to help keep your ends smooth. My ends are definitely wet when I'm rollersetting but they are not necessarily dripping. HTH and good luck!

Thanks! I finally found some old threads from a while back that mention this. Also seems like I need to get better quality mesh rollers. I bought mine from Sally's but I wasn't too impressed. I think they should be a little firmer.

Great. I bought some loosey goosey mesh rollers at first too and they can really slow you down so I understand.

Hair Junky do you have the soft mesh rollers? I noticed that my ends won't stick to the soft ones. The hard mesh rollers work perfectly and my ends will stick to the roller, I am texlaxed too, btw.

Have you been successful in finding hard mesh rollers?

I guess they are the soft ones. They are wire with the green mesh on top and a brush was in the middle which I took out. , but I heard the Annie ones are good so I'll check those out next and also try end papers.

Rollersetting was actually kind of fun and frustrating at the same time. At least I got one down. I think the tension and amount of hair on each roller is key, but I swear that texlax hair doesn't want to straighten on that roller. Maybe I need a little setting lotion added to my water to help with the slip and smoothness?

When I use my mesh rollers, I wrap the hair around the roller one time and then lay the ends down. I hope that makes sense. It will still give you the same shape of curl.

Ok. I get the picture. I thought I tried everything, but I don't think this came to mind. I was too busy fighting with the pins...finally got them down pat though thanks to another LHCF member:yep:.

Hi there,
Do you mind me asking how?
tia,
tishee

No problem. She said to push the pin in the opposite direction of how you roll the hair. So if you're rolling down, then the pin should be pushed up, still near your scalp. And vice versa for rolling up. This worked magically for me and the rollers didn't unroll. HTH
