...to see if she's still around and discuss the possibility of an appt. I wasn't even sure if her number would be the same after so long but she answered on the third ring and we made a little small talk. I told her I would call her next week.

I've been doing my own hair for the past couple of years and I have to finally just admit to myself, that it doesn't look very good most of the time. It doesn't look a hot mess or anything and is very healthy but also very..."homemade" looking. Between exercising and my own little amateur attempts at trying to do styles, it just doesn't fly.

So, I'm going to go back to her occasionally and see how it goes. Has anyone else gone back to a salon after being away for a while?

I have after being natural for about 9 months and end up with heat damange.... So ive transition all over again. Now that im back natural i dont know if i will trust someone again.

Oh no! How did it happen? A Dominican blowout?

I feel you on being hesitant to trust again. One bad experience can shave off years of progress in one fell swoop.:nono:

Be careful MA, you've got a lot of hair and I would hate to see it damaged. Are you interested in her styling or relaxing it?

I use a stylist once in a while. The last time was around 8/15 for a flat iron. I have not had a regular 2 week appointment since June/July 2007.

I did
I moved from my city to attend college so i stopped seing my old stylist, i started seeing another one but was not the same, my hair was OK but not GREAT as it used to be.

Then i moved to Mexico and i started doing my hair but euuuk, i was fresh new, i didn't know what to do. So, for my job i had to go back to my hometown and i started seeing my stylist again.

Girl, it was like magic, she have the best hands to take care of my hair, my hair starts to shine and felt more alive than ever. Now i'm back in México and i really miss her :(

What I'm thinking of to start is to just have her cornrow it so I can rock some wigs for a little while. Bunning is getting really old and I would like to continue to protective style but actually be cute while doing it.

I will continue to self relax since I only do it a couple of times a year. I don't think I'm ready to trust anyone with chemicals or heat.:nono:

Do you trust her? Did she ever do anything to your hair to cause some damage? If the answer is yes then I wouldn't do it. If she was a good stylist then I don't see the harm in going once in a while.

As far as styles, if you keep practicing I'm sure you'll be just as great as she is or even better.

I went to the salon once in May of this year. I'm going in 2 weeks for a rollerset and blowout. I'm going to ask her to not use so much heat though. Last time she almost burned my skull off LOL I did notice alot of fairy knots, but I don't know if it was the heat or the wash and go's I was doing every day in May.

I go back occassionally. I went back this weekend and got a 2 inch trim (to the stylist I have trained to do my hair since LHCF). My do it yourself trim was not working for me and my last bad stylist distaste was not making it better (i went someplace else, thinking i was saving time :wallbash:). I told my beloved stylist to trim and get rid of my bone straight ends. I'm now fully texlaxed with fab thick hair. She was so good the first amount she cut she reached around and showed me how much she was chopping. She is not allowing me to get blow outs or flat ironed.

I trust her. She was my primary stylist for about 5 or 6 years before I decided I wanted to try and be a DIY'er. One of the main reasons I stopped going to her was because she went to a new location which is an hour drive from my house. You know a chick will travel for a good service though!:lachen:
