Every since the beginning of my journey I have went to the salon weekly for a rollerset.....I decided today that although I love my hair dresser.....i see people on this website with rollersets done at home that look good if not better than my salon rollerset. I really want to take control of my hair and help it grow to its potential. I already prepoo before I go to the salon and bring my own products. I have been reading pages of threads for a options for standup hooded dryers but I dont know which one to buy> i know the pibbs is the best but I dont have that kind of money. My limit is $120. I need suggestions I want to buy it this weekend. please. Thanx ladies.

I have a hair dryer that sits right on top of a table or desk and have four settings. It don't rememeber how much I paid for it or the brand but it was not expensive. I purchased it from a BSS some years ago.

Also, I've been doing my own rollerset for well over 10 years. Of course you could do it too. I've seen posts where rollerset newbies have purchased Macherieamour's DVD.

I started with an Ion bonnet dryer for the first year ($49 at sallys), but graduated to this one a few months ago. I ordered a Pibbs, but sent it back because it didnt work for me. I have the higher wattage version of this dryer, but I was told this one would have worked too. Its $30 over your budget though. :-(

Try Sally's, I have the Conair from their and it works fine, and last I checked they had it on sale for $88 (regular price is about $99). HTH!

I was thinking about ordering that Highland Dryer. Its funny though because it is a regular salon dryer (at least in the salons I go to). I am not feeling my Pibbs..I need to see if someone in Houston is in the market for one. What wattage version did you get? Is it working better for you than the Pibbs?

I got the $199 Highland that was fadvertised for coarse hair (1160 watts compared to 980 watts on the regular Highland). I was able to walk in and pick it up which was much more convenient than ordering and returning the Pibbs 3 times via mail.

Also to answer your question, yes it immediately gave me better results than the Pibbs. I think my biggest drying problem was improper Ph Balance/porosity level, but even before I figured that out, it would take me 2.5 hours to dry under the Highland and about 3.5 to 4 hours under the Pibbs. With the expense of the pibbs being more than $400, I just sent it back a final time and bought the Highland.

Now that I have my porosity/PH balance under control, it only takes me 1.5 hours to dry with the Highland. Since you live in Houston, consider stopping by the Salon Wholesalers store and check the dryers out. They have other kinds besides the Highland too and you can return it if you're disatisfied.

I Bought a Hot 'n Gold Ionic/Tourmaline Stand Up Dryer on Wheels with 1875-1900 Watts for about $100.00

The Wattage was Extremely Important to me to Ensure that my Hair Dried Nicely and Completely and that my Dryer Got Hot enough to do the Job. I have Thick Hair.

When my grandmother did my relaxer touchup (plain ole Dark and Lovely), she used a product called Stabilizer Plus after she rinsed and neutralized my hair. Also, when she added the conditioner to my hair, she constantly added this product. The result was smooth, detangled hair (she ran her fingers through my hair constantly - no comb was needed) and when I sat under the dryer, it only took 1.5 hours to dry.

I bought a bottle of the product thinking I needed it weekly, but it seems to work best for me if applied after my relaxer and my weekly rollersets still take only 1.5 hrs now. I'm in heaven.
