Ladies,

I rarely use oil in my hair--I use a little V05 on the end of my ponytail when I make my bun, but I want to start using coconut oil because I've heard that it can be very nourishing and moisturizing. How do you use it? do you use it on wet hair, dry hair? Do you put it in and then wash it out? I'm curious.
Please share.

Thanks in advance.

You can use it

1. as a prepoo on your hair & or scalp the night before you wash your hair
2. to moisturize your ends "works best for me cause I have oily scalp" leave in
3. massage some in your wet hair after you've washed and conditioned and leave in
4. use it as a hot oil treatment and rinse out
5. add it to a mixture with water glycerin and other oils as a moisturizer or refresher and leave on
6. massage on dry scalp and leave in
7. put it on dry hair for added moisture

hope thats enough ways to use it for now.

Thank you mslittlelala! I think I'm finally going to start using it. Do you have a particular brand that is your favorite?

I think she covered it all. You should be set!
I'm not sure if you are relaxed or natural, but if you are relaxed, you may not want "oily" hair if you are wearing it down. When I was relaxed, I know I didn't, but I didn't wear my hair straight; I would use flexi rods (after it was dry) to make huge curls (like in my siggy). Coconut oil is wonderful to seal your hair (after you have moisturized) and help the curl adhere.

Also, if you are bunning with coconut oil, it will give you great bling and will lay your edges down. It's also good for detangling your hair (for example, if you have gone to sleep with nothing on your head and if you get up and it's a tangled mess. Put coconut oil throughout before trying to comb it).

I started using Dabur Vatika and thought it was the mother of all coconut oils but when I wasn't able to find my normal size I used, I tried the Parachute brand. I buy the gallon size (or maybe it's half gallon; I just know it's a lot) and it lasts a long time and only costs $10.

put some in your hands, rub them together and put it in your hair, from root to tip.

this is my favorite oil!

I decided to try it again, since I wasn't that impressed the first time.

Now I really like it! I part my hair in seven sections, then pour a quarter size on the palm of my hands, rub both hands together, then rub it on one section from roots to ends. I repeat the process for the remaining six sections. To give it a scent, I add two or three drops of my oil-based perfume to the jar.

Hair smells fabulous for days!!

I am relaxed and Extra Virgin Coconut Oil does not leave your hair oily at all. Its the lightest oil I have ever come across (and I've tried so many!).
I use Spectrum brand from the supermarket. Give it a try, I think you'll come to love it.

I use it as an everything-pre-poo, oil poo, leave in, sealer, detangler, dry hair, wet hair, mixed spritz..it's a great oil..experiment.

I use it all the ways the other ladies have mentioned. Since, it is solid below ~70 degrees or so, I put a few drops of extra virgin oilive oil in my coconut oil (just enough to keep it from solidifying b/c New England get really cold). Does anyone else do this?

I may try this. I heard that EVOO/EVCO was a awesome combination for hair health and softness!

I love the fact that it "hardens" on my hair outside in the winter. Its like hold without hair spray. LoL! Then the minute you're inside it softens up again.
