I wonder what I did wrong because a lonnng time ago I left conditioner in my hair overnight when trying to remove micro braids and my scalp was burned.

maybe it was the conditioner?? or perhaps, the state your hair & scalp was in? maybe the tightness of the braids mixed with the chemicals from the conditioner created the burning sensation? Well...if you were taking them out, I;m sure they werent tight anymore:lachen:.

I've been mixing conditioner with a little Eco styler gel and using that to style, and I never rinse my cowashes completely when I wash and go.

This is a great thread! I used to mix conditioner in a spray bottle with water, but I might try just using a little straight out the bottle.

I just have soooo many moistuerizers .... hmmm, PJ-ism at its finest!

I guess I never really thought about that one, but yes even with my ayurvedic teas and other products I will leave some conditioner in my hair or place more on my hair when I am done.

What a coinkidink! I'm trying this for the first time right now :lachen: I'm using VO5 Moisture Milks. I cowashed my hair last night and put in in a bun without rinsing all the conditioner. No news yet on whether I'll keep it up though...

ME! I have Aussie Moist conditioner in my hair 24-7. Not boatloads till its all caked in, but 1-2 pumps. I cowash twice a day and apply it in the shower after my final rinse. I LOVE IT! Other conditioners I can NOT do this with because I get dull crispy hair. I have tried it with:
Lustrasilk cholesterol plus mango
Herbal Essences Hello Hydration (and the others)
& a list of other conditioners. I CAN do this with Aussie Moist with GREAT results, every single day. I have the big pump in my shower and another pump on my vanity area that I use for styling.

I do this all the time even when my hair is in twist I wash my hair with conditioner then put on a conditioner thats not a leave in (devacare one). When Im twisted up I run a little bit of water thru my hair then use a small amt of conditioner thru out. My hair doesnt feel mushy yet.

i do... i use Nature's Gate Aloe Vera Moisturizing Conditioner as a leave-in when I twist

Do you not get over moisturised from keeping conditioner in too long?

Depends on your hair and the product.

I don't. My hair is thirsty so LOVES the moisture. This is basically the biracialhair.org/tightly curly/Teri method http://www.tightlycurly.com/Welcome.aspx

A lot of conditioners have a mild - med protein in them which also counter acts moisture overload.

I use Nature's Gate Aloe Vera Moisturizing Conditioner and my hair doesn't get buildup or crunchy or overmoisturized. http://www.iherb.com/Nature-s-Gate-...-Normal-To-Dry-Hair-18-fl-oz-532-ml/6198?at=0

I like to leave conditioner in my hair under my wig. My hair is longer and I haven't noticed any split ends. Picture in sig. My hair had always been neck length until I started healthy hair practices.

This is what I do. It really helps my ends too.

I pretty much co-wash every single day now that it's summer, and I always full strength conditioner in my hair. My preferred conditioner is Trader Joe's Nourish and Spa, then sealed with coconut oil. My hair is always super moisturized.

Me too, me too! I need to find something a little cheaper though since I am doing this now :look: So far I've been using DevaCurl One & Elucence MB. I may try some of Teri's suggestions and/or experiment with some others.

Using just conditioner made for one of the best twistouts I've ever done. I used Philip B. Deep Conditioning Creme Rinse on wet hair and twisted. It turned out fluffy and frizz-free with a little bit of hold.

I'm natural. I use lustrasilk shea to do everything--twisting, coils, or even just making fat tucked twists for a curly afro after I've washed my hair. I use it mainly cos me and combs don't get along too well, and it gives great slip for finger detangling. I havent used a comb in quite a while. (I also mostly use the tightlycurly.com method-- its not so much about the definition, though that happens..as it is that I find when my hair is smoothed and such that way it tangles less.)

I'm currently looking for more cowash (co wash but sort of full strength )conditioners that would be nice as a leave in 'cos I'm starting to work out daily, and I dont much like lustrasilk for actual cowashing, oddly enough.

I just used a bit of Aussie Deeeeep moisture on my dry hair and it felt great! :lick:

This is giving me a great idea...my hair thrived on MT a few months back but I had really bad shedding and stiff hair from protein overload. I hadnt realized that the Cantu products (including the Cantu Shea butter) and the coconut oil I'd been using all had protein in them. The result was me having a horrible episode after I took out my braids where my hair turned hard....then stuck together and knotted/tangled.

It was frightening! :nono: and even tho i lost TONS of shed hair (despite taking garlic pills) it is by the grace of God that I didnt have to cut any clumps out.

Since then I've tried protein twice...once at my place and once at my hairdressers...both disasters (albeit not as bad as the first time)

So I'd given up on MT and protein in general...but my hair isnt as thick as I'd like so I was wondering.....

what if I pre-poo with MT and EVOO.... cowash with my Aussie and then DC with my trusty NTM Mask?

Perhaps all that moisture after the protein would get me some great results and help me get that oft mentioned "protein/moisture balance" that all the cool kids seem to have.

I like balance in all aspects of my life and running away from protein all together just doesnt sit well with me.

Are there any other protein sensitive ladies out there who know if my plan might work?

any insight is MUCH appreciated.

TIA! :yep:

UPDATE:

i tried this out yesterday and immediatly my hair felt great, but i was constantly checking it out before i went to bed to make sure the results were not a fluke. well this morning i took down my braids for my braidout on dry hair and man oh man...i'm over here doing the happy dance and about to be late to work to give y'all this update.:band2:

i used shescent avacoda conditioner on half my head and on the other side i used shescentit honey rinse. i did half and half to i could compare which was most moisturizing w/o leaving a buildup. i think the avacado is going to be the winner.

Exactly what I did...!!! I was so sick and tired of oil-based moisturizers just sitting on my hair and weighing it down so I decided to try my fav conditioner as a moisturizer. My results made me do a happy dance too... :yay::woot::bouncegre
