Steaming Experts I gotta a dumb question.

I don't. There is such controversy on this subject. However, I don't b/c I don't see how the steam benefits your hair or scalp if a cap is on preventing the steam from getting into contact with your hair and scalp in the first place. If you wear a cap might as well save your money and just sit under a dryer. But that's just my take on the whole cap or no cap issue. I am no hair expert.

Nah...............No Plastic Cap.:look: The Things I use to Steam with are Incredibly Thick (i.e. Masques, Heavy DC Treatments) No Drip. Everything stays in Place.

Melts Tangles Like No Other, Softens Hair..............Ohhhh I Just Love to Steam!:lick:

I don't use one, and don't understand why you would, but to each their own.

I never got this either. Seems counter-intuitive to me.

A steam cap? eh, maybe.

But a straight up plastic cap would block out all steam. What's the point of the steamer then?

:yep: What she said.

Im so glad you asked this. I need to know this too. Everytime I go to a salon, they do it with the cap on , so I was going to do that too. But this makes SOOO much sense. I will do it without a cap- but just with a DT that is thick enough to not drip all over the place.

I always steam with a cap on. This stemmed from having steam treatments in salons over the past 15 years and they always used a cap. Basically the cap helps to lock in moisture.

Nothing wrong in steaming without a cap, I tried it a couple of times but I ended up overmoisturised, so I wouldn't personally go that route again. I don't have any problems wearing the cap and I still get all the benefits, my hair feels extremely soft after every treatment, even now when my hair is thick with regrowth.

When you take a shower, you use a shower cap to keep the steam OUT so why would you use a cap while sitting under a steamer when the only purpose of it all is to let the steam IN?

If you are steaming with a cap then you are only getting a good DC b/c of the cap, NOT because of the steam. If that is your scenario and you like it then you might as well save your money b/c you do not need a steamer.

When you think about it like that, the answer is very clear.

I don't have a steamer but I never knew you wouldn't use a cap
it makes sense though

I was just reading your blog a few days ago and I thought she has the same steamer I do and a lot of the ladies on LHCF.

That's Why I always use a Super Thick Deep Conditioning Treatment.:yep:

I Use Alot of Protein Treatments through the week. Mega-Tek, etc..and I Co-Wash with a Protein Conditioner and have been using a Weekly Reconstructor at 11 Weeks Post.

So, I don't worry about being Overly Moisturized. With as Much Protein as I tend to use, I need all the Additional Moisture I can get to Keep My Hair Properly Balanced.:yep:

I use a cap. I'm not sure if it matters. I steam my vegtables in a bag and they're not raw when I'm done. Therefore, I would assume that my hair is benefiting with or without a bag.

I dont use a cap. I agree using a cap would be similar to being under the heat of a regular hooded dryer, imo.

But dcing under anything is good...

Lol- we can only thank once. It just doesn't make a lick of sense.
