this topic has prolly been talked about already but has anyone had less than exciting reactions from family, SO's and friends about transitioning..

my grandmother and my boyfriend stick out the most in my head because their faces looked like this :perplexed....as if to say WHY??

i'm not hurt or anything cuz im still going thru with it but d@mn sum enthusiasm would've been nice....

i'm pretty much at the point in my transition where I don't care anymore...lol

but I definitely know where you are coming from...

my grandma: "I'm going to get my hair done, do you want to go with me and get a perm?"

me: face scrunches up, and I give that crazy look that you mentioned above --> conversation over.

i remember when i was transitioning and was wearing my hair straight at church a girl was like girl you need a touch up....i was like i'm going natural... i was a little offended but otherwise that no one cares

Yes, no one in my family quite understands my decision to go natural. My friends are slightly more understanding of the decision, but they too have their doubts and questions. I take it as an opportunity to teach by demonstration. I'll demonstrate how to properly care for natural hair while still looking great....lol. HTH!

My older sister wasn't too pleased with my decision but as time has gone by, she's seen I'm not looking 'rough' so she's slowly warming up to it. She loved my twistout (in my siggy) and she actually said, maybe I don't need to relax my hair :-)

My 2 friends had something close to an intervention for me, they said they, "were not to sure about this my decision to go natural", how would I wear natural hair for my wedding? Please bear in mind, I am SINGLE right now :lachen::lachen::lachen::lachen::lachen:

People ALWAYS have an opinion, ALWAYS!

Anyway, I am way beyond past caring what others think, it's my hair.

ITA! I stopped caring what other people thought a long time ago. I made the decision for myself, and not one person can defer me from my goals. I've been through the intervention as well. I think it ended well...my male cousin felt like he needed to transition as well (he's natural). lol

Yea, its sad that so many people feel you have to have a relaxer. Or that if you don't have a fresh relaxer your hair isn't done.

My mother and sisters weren't particularly kind when I first started transitioning. They'd often comment on how I need a "perm." If not that, then very sterotypical comments about unkept natural hair.

After a while (further into my transition) they started to accept it more and could see more of my natural hair.

My mother keeps asking me when I plan to get a relaxer and my response is always "Never!"

She really thinks I'm kidding.

My hair stylist told me I don't have "that kind of hair" to go natural.

I've stopped caring. I just roll my eyes and KIM.

ugh that pisses me off. maybe she doesn't believe her God given hair is good enough to wear as-is, but all of us are not that lost.
