Mizani BB vs Phyto relaxer?

They are both good - I used to use the Phyto 1 Index for about 2 years but over time my hair became dry (didn't know about chelating at that time) and then I decided to go back to lye and I will not turn back. I have been using Mizani BB lye (for fine hair) for almost a year .....

Thank you so much for your reply! I am having dryness too from Phyto..I love the relaxer but the up hill battle of keeping my hair moist is no fun :ohwell:

Trust friend - I can definitely relate and I wanted so bad for the dryness to not be due to the Phyto. I know I was using quality maintenance products so it had to be the relaxer. After using the MBB - I can really tell the difference - I just think that lye is better over all for my fine hair

I used Phyto II for 2 years after being natural. I at first loved the thickness of it. But over time it began to make my hair dry and I started experiencing breakage. I moisturized religiously, and chelated. When I switched stylists she only used lye. She uses Mizani...not BB, but original Mizani. My hair has maintained moisture and strength...I have had to incorporate more protein into my regimen, but my hair has more shine/sheen..its always silky...and has responded well...

I have been using Phyto II for about 1 1/2 years and I will not stray. I chelate every Monday with my Joico routine and my hair has never felt better.

Many moons ago, I used to use Design Essentials, Bantu, and Motions. All three promptly took my hair out. I am unsure of whether these are lye or no lye.

Now, in all fairness, I did not take care of my hair like I do now, so I can not blame just the relaxers.

With Phyto and Joico, I am getting great results.

HTH.

Oh, I have never used Mizani BB.

I tried Phyto earlier this year. I used it twice. I can't recall if it was I or II. It was the one for fine hair. I thought I got a bad batch because white chalky bits were forming in my hair during the process. There was a thread about it because it happened to others as well.
Anyway, I went right into Mizani BB after that. I like it better. My hair is butter soft (no pun intended). Whereas with the Phyto I felt like it didn't even take, and my hair was dry. The conditioners and stuff that are a part of the Mizani system work well for me too.

I also simply like the fact the I can go to the BSS and get Mizani as opposed to ordering online.

I also have a question for those that are using Mizani.

Does it maintain the thickness of the hair? How about the scalp. Does it burn?

Thanks in advance for your replies.

Taz007 I use the mild formula. I've never burned my scalp with Mizani.
Can't really say about the thickness though. I'm not quite sure what you mean.

LaidBak,

Thank you for your reply. What I mean as far as thickness is concerned is some relaxers that I have used made my hair too thin, fly away and see-through. I guess it was too straight.

With Phyto, my hair feels very thick and "heavy". I hope that makes sense.

I haven't experienced any excessive thinning from using Mizani. But I've only ever experienced thinning/limpness when I over processed. And that can happen with any relaxer. I used to only use Super.
Phyto did leave my hair with more volume, but that's because it didn't really work for me. It was almost as if I didn't relax at all afterward.

Thanks LaidBak!

If I ever decide to leave Phyto (blasphemy!) I will definitely look into Mizani BB.:yep:

I was going to give this Phyto a try but, I'll stick to Mizani BB. I have fine hair so I'll actually buy that one since I've been using the one for thick hair (thought because I have alot of hair it meant to use thick hair perms). Mizani BB always gave me great results but, I strayed and used Linange which :gotroasted: (hair is growing back on sides now) but, I loved the texture of my hair with that relaxer. I :heart2: you girls b/c I go into a thread to find out one thing and find :lots: of other stuff. Where would my hair be w/o you girls?:hair:
