Dancin' on sunshine!
I don't have a penis :look: but have exhausted the search feature thoroughly and really need some help! I can post my pics if that will help.

The back of my hair and sides is APL and the middle is BSL. Is there something I can do to make my hair all even again? My hair used to be all BSL, what is going on? I don't use protein all that much because I feel it has contributed to the breakage. I have used Emergencee off and on.

I have a simple routine and don't do much to my hair. I do wash-and-go's, buns, wrap my hair at night when I feel like it. :look: I normally go to sleep with a high-bun.

Thanks for any advice!

How are you securing your bun? How often are you wrapping it at night? I'd suspect mechanical breakage affecting your sides more so than your back, honestly.

I'd suggest examining everything you do to your hair to see if you are stressing the sides more, in any way - combing harder? Brushing more? Etc. etc.

Sounds like breakage. Make sure after you do a protein treatment to follow up with a moisturizing deep conditioning treatment. Otherwise your hair will still break while grooming. Try to groom your hair with a wide-toothed comb, and mostly in the shower with conditioner in it. Start from ends and work your way up while combing and comb your hair in sections. Sometimes wrapping can cause breakage, especially if you have NG. I would only wrap if my hair was freshly pressed.

Hi, But if you have new growth and you don't wrap your hair at night, what do you do with it at night?
Thanks.

I don't do anything because I am lazy. I comb my hair into a bun, or leave it out. How do I repair mechanical breakage? Thanks in advance!

Is there a protein treatment you would recommend? I am 12-weeks post, so how do you sleep with your hair at night? Thanks in advance!

My hair is doing this also, but since i don't see any hair in the comb, sink, or floor, i'm just assuming that my hair grows in spurts, unevenly. Now I even have a tail...

I either wear my hair in two low braids or twists and clip them up. If I want my NG to lie flat I'll sleep with a satin scarf over my head, but most of the time I don't really care so I just pin my scarf to my pillowcase to avoid breakage from cotton pillows. When I'm lazy I'll bun up my hair in a loose bun and go to sleep that way or just twist or braid one braid and clip it up.

Stop wrapping, that helped me a lot and my hair looks much better in the morning.

Just use a pin and tuck your ends under after moisturizing and cover with a scarf at night. In the morning you can finger comb it out, the edges will be flat and your ends will still look great.

I like natural protein treatments. Here are some I enjoy:

Mayonnaise Protein Treatment:
Mayonnaise
Molasses (little bit)
Braggs liquid aminos (little bit/optional)

Yogurt Protein Treatment:
Plain Greek Yogurt
Avocado Oil (or oil of your choice)
Molasses (little bit)
Braggs liquid aminos (little bit/optional)

Vegan Protein Treatment:
Avocado
Coconut Oil (or oil of your choice)
Braggs liquid aminos (little bit)
Molasses (little bit)

If I'm in a hurry and don't feel like mixing, Aubrey Organics GPB, Aubrey Organics Swimmer's conditioner, or Aubrey Organics Island Naturals make good protein treatments. Oh, and Giovanni Nutrifix Reconstructor. You could mix them with an egg yolk or add some Braggs Liquid Aminos to make them more strengthening. Hope I helped :).

The only way to stop mechanical breakage is to figure out what it causing it, and to stop doing it. ;)

I do the same thing as cburney, i was losing too much hair unnecessarily wrapping and unwrapping my hair. As was said before, maybe your hair just grows unevenly, there are so many different lengths in my head and when i check the NG,there's between 1/4 - 1 inch in different places.
I'm more inclined to think it is mechanical breakage though since your hair was all BSL and now some places are shorter, try moving your buns around a bit.

maybe it's being pulled back too much i know the sides of my hair are shorter than the rest and i suspect it's because i usually wear a pony (with my ends tucked under) don't know if that was too helpfull but it's all could offer:look:

Sounds like your buns are breaking your hair. When you bun try adding some L;huille maskreti to your ends. It will make them really soft and add elasticity (this is the effect that it has on my hair). At night, You can try doing a single braid and sleeping with that.

I don't have anything else to add, but pics are always nice & helpful!
How long ago did you notice the difference in length?

Is that you in the siggy pic?

No penis?

Cant help ya.

Sorry!

Yep, that's me. It's not a good hair picture because the wind was doing a number on my hair. I have to start taking hair pics like when I first joined.

I don't have anything valuable to contribute. Hehehe But I do love your hair in your siggy. I can't wait until my braidouts get that long all the way around.

Maybe you'll need to post 50-11 more pics for us to fully assess the situation. We'll need to see pics from before, and all angles.

IA: Also, you could try the Joico K-Pak Daily Conditioner (they have 2) One for Breakage/Damaged, and then one that's more of a moisturizer. Also the Joico The Intense Hydrator or one of the many other Joico Products as well for a Mid/Light Protein Treatment.

I just cut my hair at my desk, they have great BLUNT scissors here. :look: Every time someone walks by I do another snip and then go to the bathroom to see the what else needs to be snipped. :lachen:

I cut my nape area to about three inches. I had three inches of hair an the rest was scraggle city. I suspect my problem is my comforter. I sleep on my side or stomach and my comforter is hiked up to half of my hair. Hence why I have 22'' of hair in the top part and 3'' on the bottom. I guess I need to learn to sleep with my shoulders exposed. :perplexed

Lucie, penis!!?? What in the world does a penis have to do with this!!??? I CAN NOT STOP LAUGHING AT THIS...ROFLOL!

Sounds like you need to use a satin scarf...religiously. Stop randomly cutting your hair and wait til you get home so you can take your time...before you really mess up!!!

OMG...Why am I still cracking up!!??

I will never stop cutting my hair at work! NEVER! :nono: :lachen:I've been doing this since I've been working. I will just sit there at work and cut my hair. I've had a few co-workers ask me if I got a haircut during my lunch break. Why, yes I did!!! :yep: :look:

It appears that posters with penises get all the love in the Hair Care Forum, so since I am penis-less I wanted to be up front, so no one was disappointed. :lachen::lachen::lachen:

I am going to start wearing my scarf again. :yep:

Re cutting at work: Well I guess if you always do this, I will let you slide:yep: I thought you were just doing it randomly out of frustration!

Yes, girl get yourself a good quality scarf! (I get fabric from the fabric store and make mine...don't like the quality at the bss)

I hope you get it worked out soon!!

You know I always think about what my comforter might be doing. I use a satin pillowcase but the comforter side is exposed. You wear a scarf right?

I have included some hair pics, but unfortunately none of them really showcase my nape.

Excuse my boob almost hanging out in the afro pic. DH is a sick paparazzo.

I know aint cutting your hair with the equivalency of a pair crayola scissors? :spank:

LOL, no. These scissors are good steel/metal old school ones that your granny might have.

Oh, I see...:lachen:

I don't remember how I got into the habit of cutting my hair at work, but rather than look at end all day, I just cut it off and work my way until I have nice layers. I am seriously nice with no mirror. :lachen:

Not really. I just started wearing one a few months ago but it mysteriously disappeared. I think DH through it away.

Ummm, yes ma'am! I wish more people understood the damage done to their hair due to bad shears and raggedy fingernails too! :nono::nono:

:yep:
