Can anyone recommend a great hairdresser in the NYC area. I need a touch up badly but I am afraid to go to any ole person. I only have 3 main criteria:
1. professional and gives timely appointments
2. gentle with hair (not overprocessing) but not scissor crazy
3. knows how to style

I don't mind paying a little extra for these things either. Hope someone can help me:ohwell:
Thanks

I go to D'colores on 2nd Ave (corner of 118th). Yes, its a Dominican salon, but Christina, the ONLY woman I will let relax me, is super gentle and follows directions very well. If you dont want it blown out, she wont blow it out. If you ask for a trim, she will show you how much she suggests to be taken off first. She doesnt speak much English, but understands it pretty well. If you communicate with her and explain what you want and your hair goals, she will not disappoint.

But be sure to ask for Christina. I dont know about the other women who work there. :ohwell:

Very professional salon downtown brooklyn. The evolution room or green room on atlantic avenue (same place). Very interested in hair health.
I don't have a relaxer but they straightened my 4 crazy hair with great results.
You can schedule a consultation. Try it. It may be for u.

yes. joseph's on 60th and lex. family owned. no stuck up manhattan attitude. walk ins are typically taken immediately. i've never had to wait...

i have complained about my stylist being scissor happy on this board but otherwise i've been really happy with my experiences there.

Any particular stylist you recommend, blissy? Just curious, down the road I may decide to straighten for a week or so.

Also, as far as texturizers/relaxers, Steve at Salon Santa Cruz is very good - $$$$ though.

I second Evolution! They are great with either relaxed or natural hair. http://www.evolutiongreenroom.com/

Depends on where you live currently. I am natural but my roomate/bestie is relaxed and we both go to the same stylist! Her name is Michelle and she is in Harlem like 145. She is awesome with relaxed hair and as a natural she really takes good care of my hair (Very in to healthy hair)! PM if you would like info!

I go to Follicles (downtown BKLYN) my hairdresser is Tangela...she recently did the trim in my avatar...she knows what it means to trim. I had a relaxer done when my hair was Halley Berry short and they examined my scalp and asked if i burned easily before they relaxed my head. Overall my results were great. They thoroughly wash the relaxer out and listen to the clients demands. Tangela is an honest person and is high in demand as well. Her specialty however is short cuts (for an example of the short cuts view my fotki under the album hair journey). If you have anymore question PM me.

Hope you find success :-)

The owners name is Tasha and she is totally in control of the salon. The other stylist adhere to her work 'style' so IMHO it doesn't really matter. The salon is very professional and timely. Its the first place I got a hair steam!! And the first place I saw a stylist examine the hair strands carefully. Fabulous.
