If you see this when you comb-You have a problem

Oh gosh, this is/was me. When I blew dry my hair it was horrible!! Hair from the ceiling to the floor, all over the door frames, the tile, my sink, my DH's sink and across the bathroom in the next corner.

I am not sure if it has improved or not though. I am not blowfrying my hair at the moment because of bootcamp. I still get it in the comb though and on my shoulders and neck. I have NO idea how to stop it.

Girl, I thought I was the only one that would get hair on the celing, door, and floor when blowdrying. My hair used to shed really bad, esp right after I had my baby. Now I use the blowdryer sparingly and only comb while in the shower when cowashing. I still have some shedding but it nothing like before.
 
My floor always look like yours. I've changed/ tried different rountines, aphoghee, joico, alter ego, cowashing, no heat etc. I am on alot of meds so maybe this will continue no matter what I try but, I'm aiming for shedding instead of the breakage. My hair doesn't look unhealthy from it but, I would prefer it doesn't shed so much. I'll keep working on it though!
 
Until I found LHCF, that is exactly what my bathroom floor looked like. I am ashamed to admit that I cranked up the heat on my curling irons and flat iron. :burning: It was nothing to wash my hair two or three days in a row and blow dry it each day. And I had the nerve to wonder why my hair was breaking. :huh: You would think I would gotten a clue and said something is wrong, instead I bought a handheld vac to pick up the hairs. :imstupid: Thanks are due to the ladies of LHCF! :flowers: Ya'll have helped me to change my wicked ways.
 
I used to get that before I found LHCF and it was even worse when I was natural because I'd have had a couple of knots on the floor on top of that. What helped is the protein and moisture balance fix. I dont religiously alternate btw protein and moisture weekly. I test my hair before washing it so I know which way to go:

- if it doesnt stretch, but breaks when dry, I need moisture.
- if it does stretch and stretch... and breaks when wet, I need a very good protein, then moisture.
-if it does stretch and breaks when dry...I need a reconstructor (extreme case though) and moisture.
- if it is all fine I opt for a very light protein than moisture. Most of the time when your PM balance is fine, this step would be the most common one. At least it is for me.

A good moisturizer is very important and it is even more important to seal it afterwards. Try to moisturize your hair twice a day if your moisturizer doesnt do the job properly until you find a better one for your hair, and then you may go back to moisturizing once a day.

I used to have a bad hair fall problem like that, too. Once I got on the Board and started taking care of my hair properly, it went away. My floor and my shirts looked worse than that, let me tell you!! My hair used to be as dry as chip. Once I got my moisture level correct, many of my problems started going away. I stopped using brushes, direct heat, and I started DCing every week and doing cowashes. These things really helped with my moisture, my breakage, and all that hair on the floor.

Thanks for a concise, clear testing method. So lets see if I have got this right: take home message for me from this thread is:
1.assess if my hair is over moisturized or dry (which could be due to excess protein) and treat accordingly; not simply alternating between moisture and protein but based on what my hair NEEDS at the point in time.
2. If lacking in moisture - try co-washing, DT's, moisturizing and sealing daily or twice daily, baggying. If lacking in protein - add protein treatments.
3. Stay away from direct heat.

Wow, that photo brought back memories!

My white tile floor in my bathroom used to be covered with broken hairs like that....I thought it was normal.:nono: In fact, I had a special portable vacuum cleaner that I kept in the bathroom for quick cleanups after doing my hair. :rolleyes: No wonder, I remained at shoulder length for years...even without trimming.

Thank God, it's been years since my floor (and sink, and countertop) looked like that.
Same here. I'm so glad to have passed that stage.
 
Geeze I have had some much of this, My SO would say baby I'm surprised you still have hair on your head, it would be on the floor, the wall behind me the counter top - it was a mess. I would try and wear it down for a bit till I couldn't take it no more - not knowing how to care for it - so I'd have it weaved up for awhile. Now that I've found LHCF I am in control and my hair doesn't shed much at all I see only like 5-10 strands a day...I guess thats a plus for having fine/thin hair...
 
When I do low-mani (co-wash or shampoo, then moisturize and apply leave-in while wet and bun) my hair doesn't break much, if at all. But when I try to do a style, even something as simple as a braid-out, rollerset, etc... I lose a TON of broken hairs... I am transitioning and worried that this is just the way that my hair behaves and it won't go away when my transition is over. This fear is partially keeping me from ever wanting to B/C :ohwell:
 
I had the same problem a few months ago, and the culprit was my beloved knit hat. I thought I was too cute with it pulled back, and my bangs hanging out lol.

I tried putting a satin scarf underneath, but it would never stay put, so I had to retire the hat.

Correct, that is why I never book a precise agenda with my hair, I go with an assessment first. I am not cowasher but more a weekly washer, however sometimes I'd wash or cowash in the middle of the week if my hair doesnt feel right. If it feels mushy, I wash, PT, DC. If my hair feels dry, I just cowash, or even DC if it really feels bad. In a regular week my hair is mostly fine, so I'd do a very very light protein treatment (like Aphogee 2min) + a very good moisturizing DC like Joico Moisture Recovery. It is only a guide though, you'd use your regular products. The ones I use are not magical, they just work for me :yep: I've been able to retain most of my length last year by doing that:yep:
