Husband and I fought over airdrying hair

I'm pretty upset but I am trying to see the forum's thoughts on airdrying verses using a plug in blo-dryer. I have hair problems that come and go. I'm not sure the reason. I currently shampoo and deep condition 4 times per month and I let my hair air dry and at this time I use the 3/4 falls. It's pretty short so it doesn't take long- see avatar. Anyhoo, he seemed really passionate about not airdrying and that I should use the plug in dryer or else my hair is going to get mold and fall out. I thought heat drying should be avoided. I can avoid it because I stay at home. So my question is, Is that true? Should I blo dry my hair everytime it gets cleaned or moist? Oh yeah, his mother says the same thing about blo drying and his sister has really long natural hair, to her aist.
 
noooooooooooooooooooooooo avoid heat at all costs airdrying wont make your hair turn to mold lol i airdry all the time and my hair went from sl to bsl in no time there wrong 100% wrong...keep doing you
 
I have been airdrying my hair for years and years and I have never had any mold or hair fall out.

I don't think I have ever heard of someone getting mold simply from airdrying their hair.

Your hubby and his mom are misinformed. Try to google the subject and help to educate your hubby on airdrying and how much healthier for your hair it is.

Unfortunately, there is a lot of miseducation about black hair in the black community.

If you like the results of airdrying keep doing what your doing. If you don't want to use a blow dryer you don't have to. Your dh and mil maybe just don't understand the different things you are doing to your hair. Some techniques are new to other people. Keep doing what works for you and when your hair florishes and they see the progress then they will understand.

My advice will be to do what you know is best for your hair. IE Air Dry.
When he sees you begin to have longer hair, my guess is that he will get off your case and start encouraging you more.

Yea, I agree with everyone else. Your husband is just misinformed and that is very common when it comes to black hair care.

Yeah I have been on here a hile, I come and go, just like my hair. Thanks for the video, I'm going to atch it around dh so he can catch the video too.
 
I only airdry. I haven't used a blow dryer in 2 years and my hair loves me for it. I have no issues at all.
 
Unfortunately, there are a Lot of Misconceptions about Black Hair Care. White Folks will "Airdry" in a Heartbeat. But for some reason, we have so many "hang-ups" about Our Hair and Our Hair Care.:nono:

Instead of "Long" we need to Focus First on "Health" When you get the Health, the Length will come.

Just add this to all the other Old Wives Tales that tend to get passed around with no real Facts to base it on.:ohwell:

It's just like dieting: One person can get the something and lose weight. Someone else will follow the eat same thing and Gain Weight.:perplexed

It's all Knowing You. So, It's an Individual thing. If Air Drying is working for You, continue to do it. Keep your Hair well conditioned and just continue on to Your Goal.:grin:

ahhh, It all started ith a perm, follo ed too soon by a jheri curl and it's been an uphill battle ever since. There have been bad perms, a fire incident and rough combing. I can't get into it too much but it's been a lot. The only time I started to get better is after I joined here in college. I still have breakeage in the back sometimes- here it got burned- don't ask.

I am so sorry to hear that.!:bighug:

You may have to revamp your entire regimen to suit your individual needs.
jerri curls are notorious for not helping people retain length, and all those curl activator things can be very flammable too!

Please be strong hun. There is another lady on here ( does any one remember her name?) that had burns and succeeded in growing her hair reaallly long.

You could post your current regimen for advice from many of the more experienced ladies. I will help as much as i can.
If you have scar tissue that is affecting your hair growth perhaps you should also talk to a specialist?
 
I don't even own a blow drier (well I do, a really old one) and you can see how long and thick my hair is in my avatar. I always, always air dry :yep:

Please send your husband to us here on LHCF if he has any questions. Good old trial and error is what got us this far :D
 
Huh? Before the invention of blow dryers people have been air drying their hair for quite some time. I'm sure moldy hair was a rarity.
 
Lol...wow, that's a new one on me. I understand his concern, but blowdryers weren't always around and women in the old days weren't all bald-headed.:giggle: The only situation I can see hair turning moldy from airdryer is a situation I saw when I was in BMT. This girl washed her hair and put it in a wet bun (no problem there). But she didn't take that mess down for an entire week...she said her head was itching like mad in there, so she takes the bun down and the inside was just disgusting. She had to cut her hair off.

The happy medium could be to use the blow dryer on cool setting. DH and hair both happy.
 
Thanks for reasurring me. I am going to ignore him. I feel better just kno-ing that I'm right. He'll see one day that I'm right, it's just going to take time I guess. I
I never really thought of seeing a specialist. I don't have any visible scar tissue but it does seem like the hair there comes in less quickly and seems to be fragile.

My hair regimen is currently very simple. I shampoo and deep condition 4x/month. After I condition I apply infusim 23 and shantu conditioning cream, detangle and put it in 2 big french braids. Daily I spray the braids using some kind of mositure either infusium 23 or the mane n'tail detangle spray and apply the shantu cream. Honestly I don't do the daily thing everyday because I'm lazy and I don't comb it that often either. I very recently got a texturizer so I don't lose too much hair during detangle and so far I'm pleased and see much less hair in my comb after I detangle. Oh and I've added a protein aphogee treatment sometimes.

To be honest I think my husband is upset that I don't do anything to my hair to make it look nice. Because if I did he ouldn't say anything. But I am not going to flat iron my hair everytime I shampoo just to sit in the house caring for the baby.
 
I airdry all the time in twists and my hair smells clean. My scalp and hair stays moisturized longer than it would blowdrying. Airdrying is healthier for the hair. Hubby just needs you to to take him to class that's all.

I compromise in my marriage on just about everything. But not my hair. I just don't see why you have to compromise about YOUR hair:perplexed
 
Your husband is misinformed. I will also say that for years I didn't use a blowdryer. As my hair journey started to bear fruit and I hit SL I was bitten by the "wear my hair down all the time" bug. Now my ends are thinning. No more blow drying for me!
 
Just tell him: "I GOT THIS"

And keep Conditioning and Treating Your Hair Well. As long as it doesn't look bad -- Just try to keep it moving. Life is too short to engage in little skirmishes about: Hair?:nono:

There are much more Life Altering Decisions to engage in. He should be busy focusing on other things......like how to make you happy:lachen: JK. Money, Career, Health, Terrorism, Racism, but Hair.....:look:

Or at the very least, he needs a hobby. The Lakers are Playing the Magic tonight.:rolleyes:
