Hi - I've visited this site a few times before and you guys have awesome hair! Without a weave I did not know black hair could look like that. I just wanted to introduce myself and say hello.

I am trying to improve a whole bunch of things in my life and one of those is my hair! I am black african and grew up in southern Africa. I never had my hair cut till I was in high school and it was natural. It was beautiful and everyone would comment on it! The problems started when I was 16 and decided to relax it. It then just started breaking. A few years ago I decided to shave it all off! I cried in the hair dressers! I am now trying to grow it back but with not much success.

I do not really know how to 'do' my hair myself - the only time it really looks good is when I get it done at a salon but as a single parent - working- studying that is a luxury I can't often afford.

Right now my hair is about 15 cm long at the top of my head and the back is all broken off :nono: I normally wear a clip on ponytail or a wig. I was told by the hairdresser my hair is 'fine' but very thick and very tight curls. I dont know how that works in the whole 4b 3c thing yet, lol. I have learnt NOT to put petrolium products in my hair and hope to learn lots more from here. My hair breaks I am sure because I cant sleep with it wrapped. I hate the feeling of a headscarf at night and even when I do try to, it normally is off by the time I wake up. i am going to get a satin pillowcase.

I am living in England right now and when I get paid at the end of the month I am going to get that brazillian keratin treatment. I did try to go natural for a while and I wholeheartedly agree with promoting afrocentric looks - but...well right now I'm aiming for the long straight hair look.

Thanks and I hope to learn a lot from you all. I am sorry to go on and on but I am just excited that this might be the turning point for my hair!

x

Hello and welcome.
I just joined myself. This is the best site and the ladies on here are the best they really do know their stuff.

Hiya! I'm pretty new here too, but I can say you've come to the right place. The help and information here has taught me more than I believed possible.

WELCOME. I would think twice a about the BKT thats a lit of heat for thin damaged hair , start out with deep conditioning and a good trim.

:welcome3:
:thewave:
I'm a newbie myself but I have learned soooooooooo much being here. I'm sure you will too.
With hard work and effort soon your hair will be long and beautiful. :)

Welcome to the forum, Alarafan. The satin pillowcase will help; have you tried a loose satin bonnet yet, the ones with a satin band and no elastic?

WELCOME WELCOME!! You will definitely learn a lot from here! I went from a couple inches of hair in 07 to hair down to Arm pit length in a little less than 2 yrs because of LHCF and so has many others! There is a lot of good info here so get ready to soak it all up! Good luck!!

Hi and :welcome:

Do they do BKT in the UK, I didn't think it was available here yet...

Thank you all for the lovely warm welcome!

In the uk if you google brazillian keratin treatment you will find a few people who do it. I am in the midlands and found someone on gumtree who said they would do if for £90-120 depending on my hair.

Hi I'm new too how art thou???
BTW... I hate brazillian treatments!!!!!

hey :-)
I read a few of the threads about the bkt and most of the people using it were like 'it's the best thing since sliced bread'

- What have your negative experiences been?

To the poster who said the heat may be too much for damaged hair - I understand the treatment is actually meant to be good for damaged hair? I guess the whole bkt thing sounds like a miracle cure for me and I want to believe its true!

Wecolme to the board , I am learning so much in how to take care of my hair , I still struggling , but I getting a lot of advice, inaddition I have a hard time keeping my scarf on as well . Welcome

:welcome2:

Good luck on your new journey and remember to keep it simple (KISS) so you don't get overwhelmed :D

Hi, I'm also new. This is actually my first post. I been lurking for about 6 months. My only advice is to be wary of bandwagons. Try to find a reggie that works for you, and stick with it.

:newbie::wave::welcome3::welcome2:YOU WILL LOVE IT HERE . ITS GOOD READING LOL YOU WILL LEARN A LOT HERE I DID AND AND STILL DO.:yep:

Hi!

I know the BKT can be super tempting, but there are some other less expensive things you can try first and they can help you improve the condition of your hair as well.

I love natural things that can be found in the kitchen or grocery store.

Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Coconut Oil, and Castor oil all do wonders for the hair and they're cheap. A lot of the naturals here use Shea Butter as well. And if you're willing to search the supermarket or a health food store vegetable glycerine and aloe vera juice can be combined to make an awesome moisturizer. :yep:

I hope you find what you're looking for on the forum. But be wary of expecting miracles out of anything. It can be disappointing, expensive, and time consuming. Nothing can give you dream hair overnight.

Hi Alarafan...I am brand spanking new here, too!

I only lurked for about two weeks or so then decided that this site is definitely worth the price of admission. Learned lots already and have been reading tons and tons of old and newer threads.
