Which do you prefer ( do) individual braids or cornrown for braidouts

I prefer individual braid outs. I place 6 braids all over my head.

Besides, I do not know how to cornrow :ohwell:

Definitely cornrows!!
(1) 'cause I can do them myself
(2) 'cause I can do my whole head in about 3hours!!

The style looks SO MUCH BETTER with cornrows. I taught myself how to cornrow and my hair is thanking me for it.

I find that cornrow comes out better. Then again at the moment my hair is too short for individual braids....my hair is uneven too

Individual braids. I find the cornrow look makes it look flat on top. With my braidouts, people think my hair is naturally that way.

Neither :). I've had better success doing flat twists with the ends in bantu knots.

I agree with this. Individuals make my hair appear to be shorter and looks as if its in is natural texture. Cornrows are flatter on top, but make my hair appear longer than if I use individuals. It looks like I used a crimpling iron. It takes me longer to do individuals because since I have shoulder length hair I have to do more braids...it takes me about 30-45 mins to do individuals and about 20-25 mins to do cornrows. My profile pic was done with cornrows.

I think the style looks better and is more defined with individuals. The only time it doesn't look good is when you don't do enough or too many of them. If you braid three and four strands of hair together it looks limp and straight and if your don't do enough it looks like a chunky fro. To get a bangin braid out from individuals, imho, you need braids no bigger than your middle finger no smaller than your pinkie.

Another advantage over individuals over cornrows is the fact that the ends of the style a usually look better. Which I prefer, because I will rock a braid out for an entire week and want to look fresh till the end.

*shrugs* At the end of the day it's really up to you and about how much time you are willing to put into the style.

I have attached a photo of some of my older braid outs.

These are both first day hair right after taking the braids out. The braids from the first photo were smaller...about the size of my finger and the braids in the second photo were larger...about the size of my middle finger. I prefer the second braid out more because it is slightly fluffier...but the first braid out lasted longer (was still defined looking to the last day).

How do you do this

Kind of hard to explain how to do flat twists, maybe I could find a video on Youtube but I hope these pics help. :)

My twist are not the best and I was just learning to do bantu knots.

I decided to try individuals braid and then I did bantu knots. I will see how they come out tomorrow. If I'm not happy Sunday night I will try cornrows.

Keep the comments coming ladies and thank everyone who has commented already.

Thanks for the pictures. I was trying to figure out the bantu knots at the ends. Your twist are really pretty.

The tip for the size of the braids will help alot. I started before I saw this post but I will keep the pinkie and middle finger size in mind for the next time.

3 hours!!!!!I would die. I do cornrows too and it takes maybe 15 minutes. Do you do really small cornrows?

Neither :). I've had better success doing flat twists with the ends in bantu knots.

I like the flat twists too, it looks more "done" and less like unraveled braids. I never thought about doing bantus on the ends though, I always hated the whole ratty ends look. hmmmmm, i may be doing this.

After today I have decided that I can do braidouts. So for the next go round tonight I am going to do my weekly wash/dc and then I am going to just do a regular set for church tomorrow. I'm off from work Monday for Sunday evening I will do a twist out on dry hair and see how that looks. Thanks to SuperNova I looked at the youtube video on flat twisting. I'm not giving up and I don't want to use heat so this is plan B.

For some reason, I don't have success with flat-anything (twists or braids). However, my braidout result with individuals turn out MUCH better!

I prefer individual braids but only because my hair is too thick for me to cornrow myself.

Individual braids with the tips set on curly perm rods (with end papers of course!) And not too many, maybe 8 braids altogether. The important thing is that the hair has to be pretty wet before it is braided to get a defined curl/wave.

I do a mixture of both. I part my hair from ear to ear and do half length cornrows and just braid the ends.
I've found that if you do it this way it is a) easier and quicker to take out than individual braids and b) more defined; I've found that whole head cornrows make larger waves towards the ends because of the amount of hair.
