Hey I did a henna and Im not too sure if my texture will be permanently destroyed!

I did a henna over the weekend. I used 150 grams of jamila henna, green tea and a little honey. I cowashed my hair and applied the mixture to my head, I was so excited while applying it because my curls looked so good. I wrapped my head with saran wrap and left it on oever night. Fully washed it out next morning and applied a deep conditioner conditioner.

Okay, so my curls were defined in a lot of areas. However, so many of my areas of my head were frizzy and straight with no curl pattern. This has spread on significant portions of my head. To begin with I did have this problem with a bit of the front of my hair and the lower back.

I am so worried, will my curls come back/is this normal ????? Has this happened to anyone ? Im hoping henna did not destroy my hair :nono:

Re: Hey I did a henna and Im not too sure if my texture will be permanently destroyed

This happens when I henna and my hair always bounces back after a few cowashes. I have never had a permanent texture change.

Re: Hey I did a henna and Im not too sure if my texture will be permanently destroyed

I've heard of this happening to lots of people, but it seemed to be temporary. After a few (or several) washes their curls came back because the effect of the henna was being washed off.

I know some people use henna specifically to weigh down their hair and help stretch it out. That's why I haven't wanted to use it, because I already have weird loose areas on my head.

I henna a lot and this has happened to me. I shampoo more and the texture comes back.

BE CAREFUL! Henna after repeated applications gave me the fuzzy straight thing to point where, after not using it for almost two years, when my hair is wet, you can see a texture difference (like someone who is transitioning. For some it "wears off". For me, it didn't, particularly in the front/bang area of my hair. Just keep that in mind. It works for many, but not all.

Really, this is good to know. I did the henna onSaturday. I cowashed on Sunday and Monday and my hair has not back yet, it looks terrible .

Thanks

Yeah, I do not think I will do this again. I really loved how my hair looked when I applied it. I probably will do it to my temple areas/sides because they are thin, maybe henna will thicken them up.

Thanks

OMG:blush:! I am so scared. My head looks terrible! My hair also feels weird. I do not want to have to cut my hair off.

Thanks

Re: Hey I did a henna and Im not too sure if my texture will be permanently destroyed

I use henna because I have grays and I'm allergic to hair dye. It has loosen up my curl pattern(which I hate) but I have no other choice. Your hair will be okay. I would just keep it moist with moisturizing shampoos and conditioners.

Re: Hey I did a henna and Im not too sure if my texture will be permanently destroyed

This is why i tell everyone to read up on henna like you are studying for a test . it will wear off but only so much . the problem is , is that you left it in overnight . all that henna lawsome locked on to your hair . if you use any thing that alters your hair you risk hair pattern change . keep washin it and adding moisture . you should get most of your curl back . if you want to still use henna ,leave it on for an hour or two ,to lessen curl change.

Re: Hey I did a henna and Im not too sure if my texture will be permanently destroyed

Yeah, henna does that. It temporarily loosens your hair texture. My new growth always seems less prominant when I use henna. It normalizes within a week or two, though, with enough co-washing.

P.S. Wow...Don't leave henna on overnight :nono:. Not only can it mess with your curl pattern but also it has a cooling affect that can freeze up small arteries near your temples and by your ears, which can lead to problems (like a stroke). The woman that owns this bangladeshi store told me about that and I also read something about it online. Let me see if I can find an article on it.

I checked online, and there aren't a lot of bad things written about henna. But one affect henna does have is that it causes the stoppage of blood flow. This is good when applied to cuts and sores because it will stop excessive bleeding and help the cut to heal, but it can also do the same to the delicate vessels that are around our temples, causing blood restriction in those areas. Overtime it can lead to something bad. So ladies, when you apply your henna, make sure you avoid your temple area and your edges.

I've read on some hair blogs (maybe CurlyNikki?) that adding amla powder to your henna mix will prevent the loosening of your texture. I haven't tried it yet though, but I'm planning to do that with my next henna application.

Have you joined the hennaforhair forum? Also, have you read the Henna book. This is not to you, but I am getting somewhat annoyed that some people are doing henna and not reading the books and websites on it. I will pm you a copy of the book.

Whoa, that's crazy! Thanks for the info!

I put on Henna about a week ago and let it seat on my hair for about an hour and my curls are almost gone! I hope that I get them back thru co-washing. I have only washed twice so far and don't see much of a difference.

Re: Hey I did a henna and Im not too sure if my texture will be permanently destroyed

I understand. I am going to henna for the last time in a couple of weeks. I will only leave it on for 30 minutes, so that I can Indigo my hair. I do not like the feeling of my hair though....

Re: Hey I did a henna and Im not too sure if my texture will be permanently destroyed

I hennaed for a a year before noticing any the subtle texture change. then I spent the next year chopping all the henna out!
While i cannot deny the strengthening properties...I wasn't feeling the texture change even though it was probably noticeable to me only...

I think one can get by with occasional henna glosses without altering hair texture.

Re: Hey I did a henna and Im not too sure if my texture will be permanently destroyed

dumpling be careful , you might have the same problems after repeated use . even with the glosses . you can use cassia or alma instead . henna is some powerful stuff as you know . and once that lawsone binds to your strands , texture change is coming. by my second henna my hair totally had a different feel and my curls had elongated . but i have a very strong curl pattern and it came back .

Re: Hey I did a henna and Im not too sure if my texture will be permanently destroyed

I stopped using henna coz it just hated my curls and I co-wash daily yet my curls r not back so if you love your natural curls maybe you should do a strand test n see how your hair takes it. I'm sorry about your hair, hope it reverts back.

Re: Hey I did a henna and Im not too sure if my texture will be permanently destroyed

This just happened to me last weekend. I texturized and hennaed all in the same day. What I did to correct it was apply Queen Helene or any other conditioner that you like all over your head. I mean saturate it!!! And I also put alot of Proclaim 7 Oil [you can get it at Sally's] on it too. Put a plastic bag over my hair and then a knit skull cap and went to bed. [Yes I was very attractive to my Hubby!!] I got up in the morning and while in the shower rinsed everything out then put in a leave in conditioner, let my hair air dry [which took about 3 hours]. My hair bounced right back and I have a head full of curls today!! Hope this helps!

What?!! My eyes got wider and wider as I read your posts. I've never considered henna so I've never done any research on it. This is good to know though.
