Texlaxers, How Do You Ensure Consistent Results Each Time?

I was looking at Dlewis' hair blog and her tex-laxed hair has the same texture from roots to tips. But we know that relaxers can offer varying degrees of straightness. So I am wondering how do you guys get consistent results from touch-up to touch-up? It seems like it would be challenging, but I love the way it looks.

Hi Super Girl

For me

I don't always get consistence results. Sometimes I'm more unprecessed at the roots. My husband is sure to let me know when I am.:perplexed But I don't have a problem being underprocessed. I have a problem with being overprocessed. In the past I have cut all my hair off because I was overprocessed (before I knew what it was called).

What has helped me is I know my hair. I'm been texlaxing even before I knew what is was.
I know it takes 5-7 minutes to get the relaxed pattern I want.
I stretch my relaxer until I have at least 1 inch of new growth but this last time I stretched until I had at 3+ inches of newgrowth as you can see here.

I think that's it.:yep:

I want to know too! The section from my last relaxer is straighter than everything else. Not bone straight but enough that I can tell the difference.

I was pissed. I did it myself so I was pissed at myself. At any rate I'm even more pissed now that the new growth is coming in. There are too many darn textures on my head.

Really? Wow, I would never know that you have gotten inconsistent results. It looks perfect all the way down! :yep:

I'm texlaxed and I underprocess my texlax on purpose. I do this because I know that each time I apply my relaxer some is going to overlap. So this time, I underprocessed almost too much (oops) and next time I can overlap to my heart's content because my other hair was barely touched with the mizani relaxer. So...it works out GREAT for me. :drunk:

So, do you ladies keep track of the time you leave the relaxer in, and always aim for the same time during subsequent touchups? Or are you doing it by feel? I know I can't tell what state of straightness my hair is in while the relaxer is in it.

A little bit of both. I aim to use the same method and process the same amount of time, everytime I relax. Lately my hair has grown more resistant so I have had to process my hair a little longer. When I underprocess my newgrowth (which happens often) I wait until the next relaxer and let the relaxer overlap a little. After that the previously relaxed hair is the right texture, but the newer growth is usually still a little tight. It's a cycle.
