I found this post on a website...

Hi I am a 32 year old female and I was recently diagnosed with PCOS. (polycystic ovary syndrome) I found this out, because I had follicle pain on the top of my head, so I went to the doctor/OBGYN. The pain feels more like a burning or stinging sensation. Anyway, I found out it because my hormones are unbalanced due to small cysts on my ovary. These cysts cause extra testosterone to be let into the blood stream, which then travels to the follicles. This can lead to hairloss if not taken care of. My doctor is trying to treat me with birth control pills, and I am not to happy about the side affects from that. That also only covers up the symptoms and doesn't deal with the problem. I am going to see a bio identical doctor that deals with natural hormone balancing and hopefully get this all under control. In the meantime one can drink about 3-6 cups of wintergreen herbal tea a day. This helps lower extra testosterone in the blood which will help with the follicle pain. It takes a week to feel the results. I hope this helps!

I have had cysts on my ovary since I gave birth to my daughter 2 years ago. They have always resolved on their own. I am wondering if this additional testosterone has anything to do with that issue of the crown. Mine is in the same spot where men go bald. hmmmmm.

Hmmmmmm. After the post in the other thread I was gonna do some research so I"m glad you found this.

This may be part of my problem. I don't know if I have PCOS but I am overweight and I know there are a few studies that say women who are overweight have more than the normal level of testosterone. And, I have other symptoms that point to a high level of testosterone.

This is very very interesting. I'm going to make an appointment with my gyno and see what she says.

i've heard PCOS linked with facial hair on women too. freaked me out to hear that because every month before my PMDD symptoms kick in, i grow a single solitary wisker out of my chin. :look: never in the same spot, never on the same side. i always pluck it of course. the ironic part is, none of this crap happened before i had my son. i went from slight pre-menstrual symptoms before having a child, to serious water-weight swelling, nausea and mood swings (from irrational anger to slight depression).

i don't suppose PCOS is genetic is it? cuz my mom has the sore, itchy crown issues too. we've never talked about any other related symptoms, but perhaps we should in light of this post...

Me and my mom also have sore crowns. I don't have PCOS as far as I know, but me and my mom both suffer from (undiagnosed)PMS/PMDD symptoms, and my mom has symptoms of excess testosterone (facial hair). Interesting...

Things that make you go hmmmmmm.

I am determined to find the answer. It is interesting we all share similiar symptoms.

My sister has pcos. I figured there was something going on years ago before she was diagnosed. She would go months without have a cycle, gained a significant amount of weight, esp around her waist, and she was constantly plucking facial hairs. She was diagnosed at her first gyno appt at age 18.

My crown is itchy and I have a few stray hairs, but I havent been diagnosed.

thanks for this info - my crown itches and sometimes sore but thought I was either not getting enough moisture there, or dealing with scab hair, or too much stress

my periods have been highly inconsistent since Thanksgiving '08. and i've gained weight, and it always tends to be around the waist... y'all are scaring me... :covereyes

I use chasteberry tincture and drink a hormone balance tea, but now I am really going to make an appt and get this checked out. Thank you so much for the info.

I have PCOS, with almost all the symptoms - thinning hair (sore crown too) facial hair, weight issues and a horrible cycle. The only symptom I wish I had was the sparce cycle. Mine is "irregular" but it still comes EVERY freaking month some times 2x a month, Like I am feeling it will come again before May makes her exit.

I tried the pill a few years ago and it was good for a few months, then I had my periiod for 12 days, two week break, 15 days 5 day break and then 18 days. I opted to stop. Tried again last year with Yaz...same mess happened. Things were going well then my period started getting longer. Considering the fact that it already lasts 8 days I was unimpressed. Plus Yaz is a $20 script. Heck Naw.

I also have PMDD - Some months I get psychotic, Yaz helped with that, but I figured people would just have to stay away from me cuz it wasn't worth the 1/2 month long flow. Summumabish, I have a cyst that is acting up now. It seems like this time of year EVERY year I get on and my cycle acts up more than normal and this is usually when I need to stay away from people cuz I go into kill mode.

Any one that has symptoms should go see an OB/GYN and a reproductive endocrinologist. This can also cause blood sugar issues and make you borderline, if not full blown diabetic.

ETA: For women with 'stray hairs' on their face, it could be other hormonal imbalances, heredity and age...but if you really think it is something going on with your lady bits, push for the ultra sound and dont let them tell you no.
