Does that mean my edges have to be SO DARN DRY?!?!?!!? Goodness!! How are my other nappies keeping their edges moist during the day? Please tell me your secrets :) I am wearing an twistout updo today and my edges are EXTREMELY dry looking/feeling :(

The only thing that works is trying to keep them as smooth looking as possible.

At night I smooth castor oil onto my edges and smooth. Sometimes I use a soft brush. Once done, I tie my scarf over my forehead (a little too far foreward) and then slide it backwards and into place to just to make sure the edges will be kept as smooth as possible.

If you're not wearing a straightened style, you can dampen them a but too to help. I also like the EQ Glaze - that plus a boar bristle brush = sliiiiiick moist looking edges. :yep: You might have to tie a scarf over them for a few mins if you do it in the morning - like do your edges and scarf, then do your makeup, so by the time you're ready to leave they've set.

Hey girlie! These are great tips :yep: Thank you

oh - my last minute resort is a side part. :lachen:

I take the first inch of my hair - from the edges back - and comb it forward, then I put the rest of my hair into the updo. Once that's done I put a side part in the section I separated out, and then smooth it into a semi-swoop bang. Secure with clips behind the ear (depending on length) and you're set.

The longer hair covers the edges so nobody can see them acting up!

I will give this a try also!!

Hey Soliel, did you make a tutorial for the braid/twist out you are rocking??

my edges are naturally smooth but on other areas of my hair that are dry i use oyin whipped pudding and that keeps it soft all day so try that. it is a staple for me and its worth it.

1. I'm very extra careful about making sure none of my face/body soap gets on my edges.

2. Most of the time I skip applying shampoo directly to my edges.

3. I only wear silk headbands and scarves, no cotton ones.

4. I'm in the process of finding a different bonnet because the elastic part rubs on my edges and makes them dry.

5. Castor oil on wet edges keeps them pretty moisturized for me.

Co washing frequently
Quemet Heavy Cream (I think that's what it's called)
Ecostyler gel and smoothing with my fingers works

I'm no longer natural but water sealed with castor oil worked wonders on my kinky natural hair. So soft!

Guess i'd better look into castor oil. I swear if i have to buy one more product i'm going to lose it!!

What do you have already? I find that castor oil helps me because it's thick and stops the water from evaporating too quickly. Do you have a thick conditioner or butter that you can use?

Hmmmm,

Really the only conditioner I have is Aussie Moist. I don't really have any butters either. The closest thing to it would be my Jane Carter Nourish and Shine.

I bet the N&S would work -- it has a pomade texture, right? I always read the children's style forum, b/c most of the kids have natural hair and I needs tips. :look:

I recall one saying she used the N&S. You could prolly use any other oil you have or pomade the same way - it's just that castor oil is so heavy/sticky it does the job easily.

Like Soleil said, I would think the JC N&S would work. Is it pudding/creamy like or butter like?

I know for me, my hair has to be at least damp for anything to work well so maybe you should dampen your edges and then put the JC on (liberally) and see what happens.

Often after I wash or moisturize daily I seal with castor oil lightly on the length and extra on both my ends and edges. I then sleep in a silk scarf. When I am ready to un twist my hair is smooth soft with silky curly waves.

Also whenever I deep condition I make sure that I either add extra conditioner to my edges and/or add castor oil on my edges. It keeps them from drying and becoming frazzled and confused.

Hope this helps.

I use N&S on my daughter and it keeps her hair super soft and like MSA said, water makes everything work better!

Castor oil was my miracle oil though back in da day! U should def. try it!

No :duck:

I'd hadn't done anything but buns until this past week when I straightened. Next braid out though, I'm DEF taking pics to document the process. :yep:
tsk tsk!! I'll be waiting on it :)

Yes, kind of like a pomade texture. I'll give it a go for tomorrow's updo and see how it works w/ water added of course.

I am going to try this tomorrow for sure.
Well at least this one is inexpensive..:look:
You can get a small bottle from the drugstore for under $2

:lachen::lachen::lachen::lachen: I know you were like "dang, it's only castor oil, why she trippin'?"

Yes it does. I'm taking notes on all of this because i need HELP!!

You sold me on the castor oil. The next store run i make i'm going to pick some up and give it a shot :yep:

I skeet things onto my hair/edges throughout the day.
I also like to use mango butter - or hawaiian silky 14 in 1 - or Bee Mine Curly Butter - or some dove conditioner & water to just rub onto my hair.

My edges are less problematic than my ends.

Now normally, I would save this foolishness for OT, but may I suggest that you rub some Robert Pattinson sweat on your edges. :lachen: sorry, I couldn't resist.
Try cowashing. And maybe some coconut oil on your edges while they're still wet.

DOWN WITH PATTINSON PROPAGANDA!

Just foolish I tell ya :lachen::lachen::lachen::lachen::lachen:

Y'all I cowash A TON!!! I mean like 4-7 days a week. What i've noticed is that my crown and edges dry out tremendously. Not sure what that is about. I will add coco nut oil to my list OP.

And...errrrra....It's a good thing you talking smack about Rob and not Edward Cullen cuz then we'd have to take it to the skreets :catfight: :lachen::lachen:
